Shen Yin Wang Zuo, Chapter 401

Shen Yin Wang Zuo, Chapter 401: Mythril Foundation Armored Long Haochen (III)

Long Haochen turned around, and looked at his comrades with a very concerned expression. The expression in his eyes and on his face was very abundant, and among everyone, his eyes rested on Cai’er for the longest time.

“Step back as well, all of you.”

“Wait a bit.” Tian Qing suddenly shouted, before coming to Long Haochen’s side with large strides, vigorously stamping onto the ground with his right foot, while giving a beat to his own chest with his right hand, executing a knight salute in front of him, “Honored knight Long Haochen, I request to temporarily exchange my armor with yours.”

Long Haochen looked slightly distracted, “Big brother Tian Qing.” No matter whether it was a Mythril Foundation Armor, a Pure Gold Foundation Armor or a Divine Throne, all these entities were regarded by knights as a sign of honor. In the hearts of knights, they held even more meaning than their own life.

“Please allow it.” Tian Qing requested with determination.

“Thank you.” Long Haochen didn’t decline. He only placed his right hand on his chest and gave Tian Qing a standard knight salute.

A faint golden light surrounded Tian Qing’s body, and the Mythril Foundation Armor, which originally fit him perfectly, made resonant tingling sounds, before a change immediately happened on the helmet. Its back turned over, and then, the whole armor started to separate itself rapidly from his body. In a flash, it returned to its original state, exposing Tian Qing’s body.

The current Tian Qing was still stained with blood, and his face looked somewhat pale, but his eyes were filled with determination.

Taking one step away from the Mythril Foundation Armor, Tian Qing didn’t say anything. Stepping aside, he looked at Long Haochen with an ardent look.

Long Haochen took off his own Glorious Holy Armor, unconsciously clenching his fists. Mythril Foundation Armors symbolized the legend of the human knight’s glory, and he was finally about to wear his first one. Even he himself didn’t believe he was qualified to wear a battle armor of this kind so fast.

Controlling a Mythril Foundation Armor required one to reach the seventh step of cultivation. Although Long Hoachen didn’t break through to this level yet, he still reached the peak of the sixth step, and his internal spiritual energy had broken through 10,000 units two days ago. He was now on the bottleneck between the sixth and the seventh step. Relying on his own incredibly pure light elemental spiritual energy, he had confidence in being able to master this armor, and Tian Qing was similarly confident in him. Therefore, he was willing to let his own glory be worn by Long Haochen, hoping it would increase his odds of victory.

Everyone knew that the odds for Long Haochen, whose strength didn’t reach the seventh step yet, to prevail over a powerhouse at the peak of the eighth step, were close to zero, but Long Haochen still stepped forward and accepted the challenge. Being a knight, this was a question of honor, so no one could stop him.

As soon as he reached out for the Mythril Foundation box, Long Haochen felt the blood in his body boil. When he really stood in front of it, a proud and hard to describe battle intent rose in him.

Engulfed by silvery light, the silver box transformed first into a pair of leg guards. With silver light spreading underneath, they fastened around both of his feet. Then, the armor rose to his lower back and the thigh parts wound around his waist, enveloping him slowly.

During this process, Long Haochen unconsciously straightened his posture, while silvery light surrounded his body.

The same armor worn by Tian Qing and by Long Haochen had a totally different appearance. When the silver armor entirely covered Long Haochen, on his chest, a rich golden light abruptly flashed, and spread to the surroundings. Merely in the time of a few breaths, the originally silver colored armor turned entirely golden, as the elegant golden magic traces on the armor glinted.

Long Haochen felt like a huge black hole, madly absorbing all the light essence in the air. His spiritual cavities seemed to harmonize perfectly with the Mythril Foundation Armor. It was a really wonderful feeling, and totally different from any of the other armors he had worn before.

After being clad in the Mythril Foundation Armor, Long Haochen felt as if he was wearing mere clothes, and not an entire armor. His body felt incomparably agile, and he didn’t seem impeded in the slightest. Just by putting this armor on, he felt as if his whole body had reached the state of Brilliant Body.

This was a legend, a legend of the Knight Temple! It was thanks to the efforts and research spent by the Knight Temple for several thousands of years that they had been able to make 365 Mythril Foundation Armors, and 36 Pure Gold Foundation Armors, which helped them gain such a stable position as head of the Six Great Temples.

Only by wearing it, Long Haochen felt his strength at least doubled or even tripled, and this was without taking the defense of the Mythril Foundation Armor, and its boost of agility into consideration.

His whole body started to gleam golden, and Long Haochen sensed the Mythril Foundation Armor settle with an almost audible moan. At this moment, Tian Qing understood the reason why that black-clad demon youth chose Long Haochen and not him as his opponent.

Slowly, he lifted the Legendary Shield in his hand, offering it to Long Haochen.

But to Tian Qing’s surprise, Long Haochen shook his head, “Brother Tian Qing, did you forget that I am also a Retribution Knight?” After saying that, he grabbed the Rippling Light with his left hand, and advanced towards Ah’Bao in large strides.

A Retribution Knight? Tian Qing’s look became suddenly sluggish. It was true that in a one against one battle, Retribution Knights were without a doubt a lot more powerful than Guardian Knights. And right! The first time he ran across them, Long Haochen seemed to have been using dual swords.

“Are you prepared?”, Ah’Bao asked when Long Haochen stopped ten meters away from him. He didn’t stop Long Haochen from exchanging armors, since he wanted to defeat Long Haochen in his most powerful state, to really quench his hatred.

Long Haochen looked up to him, “Come.”

“You’re a knight, what about your mount?” Ah’Bao asked in all seriousness.

Long Haochen shook his head, “Although you are my enemy, you still gave me the chance to have a fair decisive battle. As a knight, although my strength is far from yours, I cannot have such an unfair advantage in a duel. It would no longer be a one versus one battle between the two of us.”

With a smile, Ah’Bao revealed some unconcealed admiration in his eyes, “Very well, you are really worthy of being the rival I settled on.”

A rich black radiance slowly rose in the air, and the scales on him gained a purple tinge. In his right hand, a purplish black radiance appeared from nowhere, and the massive glint turned into a pillar of light, spreading with an incomparable pressure from his hand.

All the demon powerhouses exchanged alarmed looks, as if this black radiance filled them with fear.

The purplish black radiance condensed in Ah’Bao’s hand, turning into a purplish black heavy sword.

Long Haochen of course knew what this purplish black heavy sword was. That was Ah’Bao’s personal weapon, the weapon that he destroyed in the past. It was made out of the horn of a Devil Dragon.

At the same time, Ah’Bao raised his right hand, and Long Haochen mirrored him with his own right hand, from which a soft golden radiance condensed, slowly ascending to his right hand, glinting with an intense golden color.

At first it seemed as if the golden light was far inferior to the black radiance in power, but the instant it appeared, the light surrounding Long Haochen engulfed all darkness in a hard to describe way.

When he was clad in Mythril Foundation Armor, this originally only silver-colored armor produced some golden light, but when the Aria of the Goddess of Light appeared in his right hand, the Mythril Foundation Armor actually turned completely golden.

Yating was floating above Long Haochen’s shoulder, only murmuring some chants, but suddenly she touched Long Haochen’s neck and disappeared the next instant.

Immediately, the Mythril Foundation Armor flourished in golden light, produced buzzing sounds, and suddenly emitted strong fluctuations of spiritual energy. Its strength abruptly reached a terrifying level. On Long Haochen’s back, his two pairs of spiritual wings instantly spread. And every part of him radiated an ethereal feeling.

That’s right, Yating turned into a weapon soul and fused with the Mythril Foundation Armor to give Long Haochen a massive boost.

The Aria of the Goddess of Light burst into intense flames which naturally originated from the release of Holy Fire. Regarding his presence, Long Haochen was unexpectedly not the slightest bit inferior to Ah’Bao. The auras of the two of them clashed, trying to suppress each other, but to everyone’s surprise, none managed to get the upper hand.

Long Haochen didn’t only feel powerful to Ah’Bao, but also pure. Exceptionally pure. It was because of this purity that he didn’t lose against his presence.

At this point, the battle started without any prior indication. Long Haochen launched the first attack. Not using any abilities, he simply moved forward as the Aria of the Goddess of Light traced a graceful curve in the air, creating a fantastic scene.

To everyone’s eyes, it looked as though Long Haochen disappeared and all that remained was his sword.

From the launch of his blow, the sky changed color, as if struck by it. And because of it, Ah’Bao actually let out a stuffy groan and drew a few steps back.

Gliding further and circling around, Long Haochen waved the Aria of the Goddess of Light horizontally once again. Long Haochen’s movements didn’t look slow in the slightest right then, but he gave a kind of abnormal feeling of steadiness.

As his opponent, Ah’Bao had the deepest impression of this attack. Long Haochen’s first blow indeed pierced through the skies, but also sealed off all the possible attacking routes of Ah’Bao. Moreover, it aimed right at the moment Ah’Bao was in the midst of his own movement. If Ah’Bao had completed his attack, Long Haochen’s first attack would undoubtedly have landed on him first.

If this had been someone else, even if this attack had been executed with a piece of Legendary Equipment, Ah’Bao wouldn’t have stayed that passive. So what was there in taking a strike? Given their terribly powerful external spiritual energy, Devil Dragons didn’t fear any attack. However, Long Haochen wasn’t the same: his sword seemed as traceless as a breath of wind,, yet gave off the powerful sword intent of a man being one with nature. Facing such a sword, Ah’Bao had an intense sense of crisis, as if as long as it landed, he would undoubtedly be seriously wounded.

  • Insidious13

As powerful as LHC is, he will lose. More than likely, he is going to be killed here and they will need to find a way to revive him.

    • Alex Drake

That’s ridiculous. Grievously wounded and forcing him to use the aria sure but definitely not dying.

    • Robin

Sory, but this theory is not really plausible. And even less probable.

      • Evilage

Yes the almighty weapon call plot armor will save him in time :>

    • Jonathan Hurd

Sadly there really isn’t any precedent for Revival in the world. We also know that LHC has some super powered 9th stepper following him so if things got that bad I assume that Knight will step in. If that guy can hold off the Devil Dragons Guard Captain he can deal with a handful of 8th steppers and a bunch of 7th steppers.

      • Seemstress

The fact that there is no precedent doesn’t mean that it is impossible. It’s LHC we’re talking about. It could be that Elux has the power to revive someone. Or maybe Cai’er will awaken as a chosen one, if I remember correctly her element is closely connected to death, maybe she could revive him. Or maybe Elux and Cai’er working together.
I’m not saying it will happen, but it could.

        • Jonathan Hurd

I do agree that just because there is no precedence doesn’t mean it can’t happen. The problem is no one really seems to have the abilities or stuff related to resurrections field. If you asked me who could potentially do revival I would say a Life Magician or a Priest, but we don’t have a high level one of either profession close by right now.

Elux is a Necromancer and while he is probably able to keep LHC from dying or connecting his soul to a skeleton that isn’t really the same as a full scale revival. For Cai’er Daughter of Samsara is the choosen one of the God of War. Not much chance for her having the ability to bring people back. Hers is more connected to putting them under.

The biggest problem I find is even if we do say to ourselves ‘Okay LHC dies/loses in the dual and will be revived’. Doesn’t that mean his entire party is then killed? Sure Ah’Bao could be a great guy and say ‘LHC fought his hardest so I will let you off’, but why should he? The sheer bounty of a entire Kings Grade DHS at your mercy and letting them go would more than likely be too much to give up.

Not to mention if LHC dies so does Hao Yue thanks to the Blood Pact. Overall it just seems really unrealistic and pointless for LHC to die at this point.

        • Kaarme

In my opinion it would easily lead to rather dodgy dramatics if we, at this point, suddenly got a resurrection plot. It would need to be tied to something larger to work. I don’t see what it could be, but on the other hand if the author had planned it all out, it would naturally work.

I have no idea how this duel and the whole encounter with this demon host will end, but I wouldn’t bet on the main character dying, for sure. In fact I don’t expect Ah’Bao to die either, but I can’t deny that possibility either, especially after Haochen dismissed him as a rival.

  • Zeth

    Thank you very much Totobro!!!

  • gundam_man

huh, for some reason i thought the mithril armor was purple not silver

    • Jonathan Hurd

The purple usually has to do with Hao Yue. There are also other people with purple aura’s like Ah’Bao and the moon demons, but I think he choose Hao Yue’s purple because purple has been related to royalty like in the Roman Empire.

      • Evilage

Purple usually refers to the chaos element.(usually). But mithril is a type of steel used by elves(according to legend) and like most elfish things its silver. You’ll rarely see elves with gold and stuff in books or movies.

        • Jonathan Hurd

Part of me does have to wonder why Elves who are always tied to woods and nature for the most part are known for silver metal. That doesn’t seem like something you would find without digging in mines.

          • Evilage

Actually mithril isnt silver, it just resembles silver. Its a type of metal which is harder than steel, silver, gold etc and at the same time is lighter than those metals. This makes it easier to use and make it into weapons and stuff. Mithril is only used by elves (as far as i know, might be wrong) because they are the only race which actually can use that metal to create weapons( in order words a special smithing technique is needed for it and only elves can use that technique)(remember this is just fiction both mithril and elves)

          • Seemstress

Actually I think mithril was introduced by J. R. R. Tolkien in Lord of the Rings. Here’s a quote from wikipedia:

In The Lord of the Rings, Tolkien wrote that mithril is found only in the mines of Moria beneath the Misty Mountains, where it was mined by the Dwarves. Unfinished Tales alleges that it is also found in Númenor.
The name mithril comes from two words in Tolkien’s fictional language of Sindarin—mith, meaning “grey” or “mist”, and ril meaning “glitter”

Of course it has been used in other fantasy works where it can be changed by the author, but in the end its origins are still the dwarves. Even if the elves use it, it doesn’t mean that they make it. They could just buy it off of the dwarves.

Edit: To make it clearer, it isn’t usually made by elves but dwarves, though it’s subject to the author’s will.

  • Normal Guy

    battle time

  • Jonathan Hurd

So what do people think the odds are that this fight helps LHC break through to 7th step. There doesn’t seem like there would be any better pressure than a duel to the death against the strongest 8th Stepper you have met thus far (excluding the DG’s he never really directly faced) knowing that if you lose everyone dies.

    My bet is about 80%.

    • Evilage

Hmm.. i think he’ll win. But surely he wont die.
Firstly plot armor : well he might lose but won’t die, maybe demon waifu does something?
Secondly hao yue : everytime haochen is in danger hao yue turns purple(probably uses austin griffins power) to defend his master.
He wont lose cause i think he’ll learn some new techniques and stuff plus break through in this battle.

      • Jonathan Hurd

I would first say that LHC is not going to die. He is the main character and there has been no spells that could let be people revive from the dead. Add to that he has Elux watching over him and the Mystery Knight following behind him. No one is going to be able to kill LHC with that kind of support.

The only problem with someone interfering is that would be a stain on LHC’s honor. I don’t think LHC would be willing to accept that. Knowing his attitude he would most likely refuse the help. He accepted this duel and agreed to the conditions. To go back on that would be to throw away everything he represents.

That is why I would say he most likely uses this battle to break through to the seventh step. He might not win, but he is definitely not going to die. The duel might get interrupted by outside forces.

        • Evilage

I doubt the duel will get interupted. But he wont have any choice if elux decides to help him. Remember the other battle near the priest temple?
Plus i believe we are forgeting a really important factor here.
The thing which you have been waiting for all along.
NECROMANCY. He can now summon skele sensei and skele wiz now right? Given the fact that tian qian lended his mithril armor to him, LHC might trust him enough to use it. He also wont have any problem with it since it isnt outside interference but his own power. The only problem is LHC does not like necromancy.

          • Seemstress

I would disagree that it is his own power.
In a way it is, but it is still summoning other people to help with his one on one duel. Saying it isn’t outside interference but his own power, the same would go for Hao Yue, it’s HIS mount, usually allowed in duels. However LHC obvioulsy stated he won’t use him because he wants a pure 1v1 fight.
One would also argue that Yating is also an entity that makes it a 2v1 but she is omitted because she is basically equipment, a spiritual stove and she is only strengthening his armor(so far).
I personally don’t view this pride thing as something they should have in battles where they fight to the death. It is foolish. I know it is part of what makes them who they are. LHC without his pride isn’t LHC and Ah’Bao is the successor to the Demon Lord so he needs to have pride so his subordinates will respect him. I know that, but still, pride is stupid in situations where there is the threat of death. This just goes to show the difference of values between these characters and me though. If I were LHC I would have already transported everyone to the tower, I don’t remember there being a limit on people he can take, he only needs to worry about its secrecy. If I were Ah’Bao I wouldn’t agree to a duel, you’ve already proven your superiority by luring them in a trap, why not use it to the fullest, if you were to lose your side loses morale, the duel also gives their side to get reinforcments or think of an escape plan. It’s foolish no matter how I look at it, just go all out…

          • Robin

There are some limits for how many people he can transport their. It was clearly stated before, that he was not even sure he could transport every of his team members to safety under siege. I would agree

          • Jonathan Hurd

I feel like LHC hasn’t been tipped off enough that the Demons are all out searching for Hao Yue yet. LHC knows that Hao Yue is pretty scary to the demons and that the DGE was looking for him, but there hasn’t been any real tip offs that the demons got wind of him after the fusion. It is pretty reasonable to think the DHR’s presence here is related to Ah”Bao’s grudge and to hunt a king grade DHS.

Knowing LHC’s character I think it is pretty possible that he really is not letting Hao Yue participate as part of honor. It might also be that he has tasked Hao Yue with preparing some super AoE attack to act as a distraction after the duel is done in case Ah’Bao goes back on his word. The other thing is as the story said Ah’Bao is not the kind of enemy LHC can blitzkrieg to kill.

Especially considering that Ah’Bao is facing him very seriously after last times humiliation. The fusion with Hao Yue last time also caused great strain on LHC. LHC even wasn’t able to make full use of the fusion as well. So I feel going with a battle of technique especially after all LHC’s training is the right move, :D.

          • Robin

If knowing that the DGE is searching for Haoyue and even willing to mobilize a whole army, plus coming in person to get him, in addition to the Demon God Slayers’ warning to keep him hidden from the demons as much as possible, is not enough to tip Haochen off that they are searching for him, I don’t know what is.

But I agree, the most probable reasson for him to exclude Haoyue from this fight, should be his honor as a knight. But you never know with Haochen, he sometimes is more cunning than you would expect and may have an ace up his sleeve.

          • Jonathan Hurd

The DGE did indeed try to find Hao Yue, but that was quite a few years ago. The only time the DGE got a whiff of Hao Yue was from the DG’s who recognized Austin Griffin. All the other demons don’t seem to know about him they just know he scares the shit out of them, :D.

The other thing to note is LHC has been fusing with Hao Yue repeatedly quite a few times, but this latest one is the first time his doing so gave off an energy ripple alerting the DGE. Till now no one has been able to get definite information that Hao Yue is in their world. So the situation has changed pretty drastically, but the demons haven’t really shown their desperation just yet. It will come out soon, mwhahahaha!

I like the cunning side of LHC, :D. Haochen is honorable but not a fool. So I highly doubt he would do something to break the duel since that would infringe his honor. At the same time, I am almost completely certain he would set up a fail safe in case he wins and the demons try to go back on their word.
