Shen Yin Wang Zuo, Chapter 283

Shen Yin Wang Zuo, Chapter 283: Ensnare the opponent of the seventh step (II)

Long Haochen looked around and saw a tall and feisty figure, carrying a pair of battle-axes. It swept at the demons aiming for Long Haochen, including that Golden Dual Bladed Demon and a great amount of other demon soldiers. Of course, his strength was however insufficient to completely resolve their predicament. This was precisely the powerful crowd warrior ability Tornado Strike.

Seeing this person, Long Haochen was completely shocked, because he surprisingly recognized this battle-ax warrior, who precisely turned out to be the fifth brother that lost 100,000 contribution points against them.

In the battlefield, the fifth brother’s performance was especially intrepid. While frantically swinging a pair of battle-axes and beheading the demons in front of him, he clearly made use of Madness. Even the demons attacks that reached his body were ineffective.

With the suddenly reduced pressure, Long Haochen finally caught his breath, directing his gaze next in the direction of the three Demonic Eye Soldiers.

The five silhouettes that appeared out of nowhere were a group of fighters with wings of condensed spiritual energy at their backs. They were powerhouses of the sixth step, clearly profiting from their condensed spiritual energy.

The five of them appeared suddenly, led by a man seated on the back of a huge Six-legged Horse, a type of battle horse with a pair of wings on its back. It wasn’t a unicorn, but a flying horse possessing six legs. It was one of the rarest types of mounts in the human world. Be it in the air or on the ground, it possessed a powerful fighting ability. The only pity was that it wasn’t a magical beast of the holy attribute, but of the fire attribute. Otherwise, its utility would even surpass that of Starlight Unicorns.

A knight clad entirely in Radiant Equipment was riding this horse. With a towering shield in his left hand and a heavy sword in his right hand, he was riding the Six-legged Flying Horse, striking at a Demonic Eye Soldier in the next instant.

An intense golden light suddenly spread from the center of his body, scattering around. Over a diameter of thirty meters, outside of those three Demonic Eye Soldiers, all the other demons were totally affected from the previous demonstration, enabling his other four comrades to land with ease.

The next performance of these five happened right after a glint of radiant light shone. In the blink of an eye, the three approaching Demonic Eye Soldiers had already become corpses. Their strong offense improved the situation on Long Haochen’s side enormously.

The 8th general grade Demon Hunt Squad was led by a formidable knight. It was exactly the same person who had previously apologized to Long Haochen for the trouble his teammates had caused.

After getting rid of the three Demonic Eye Soldiers, Zhang Fangfang turned around, giving a thumbs up in Long Haochen’s direction. In response, Long Haochen raised the heavy sword in his hand against his own shoulder, performing a knight salute.

Since they still stood on a battlefield, he didn’t have time to say anything to Zhang Fangfang, but when their eyes met, they shared an understanding look.

It could be said that the 8th general grade Demon Hunt Squad had happened to arrive at a perfect time. They not only helped to relieve Long Haochen’s group from a great deal of pressure, but also launched another attack against the demons ranks. They matched harmoniously with Long Haochen’s side and thereby also reduced the pressure on the human army.

The commanders of the Alliance weren’t foolish enough to let such an opportunity slip by, and commanded the human soldiers to launch a counterattack, speeding forward through a range of thirty meters.

From five, the opponents of Long Haochen’s squad were reduced to two, which made the battle a lot more relaxed. Their defense was now concentrated against the Dual-Headed Devil Eagle, catching him off guard with the launch of a sudden projectile shining of bright light.

In an instant, golden light erupted along with a blue light, and in Long Haochen’s hand, Blue Rain, Hibiscus of Light disappeared, launching its strongest attack, Bright Rain – Thrusting Hibiscus. It aimed precisely at that very sly Golden Dual Bladed Demon.

Long Haochen had already charged this attack for a long time, and before launching it, his Saint Spiritual Stove’s Attraction ability instantly limited his opponents movements. The combination of both attacks caused an increase of the scope of his spiritual stove. If used along with that powerful attack,to delay the distant Golden Dual Bladed Demon’s movements, it could be used with the highest efficiency. Next, a golden and blue dual-colored radiance appeared instantly in front of that sly enemy, carrying the same terrifying power as a very violent tide bursting forth.

Bang.

The Golden Dual Bladed Demon’s body was directly torn to shreds, but Long Haochen still didn’t feel much at ease. Using Bright Rain – Thrusting Hibiscus came with an even greater consumption than Asura Strike, consuming a total of 1,500 units of internal energy. And this was already taking his status as the Scion of Light into consideration, which lessened his consumption whenever he used any light element ability.

This was the perfect opportunity for the Dual-Headed Devil Eagle that had always been waiting for a gap in Long Haochen’s defense. After breaking through the combined defenses of both Haoyue and Lin Xin, he violently rammed against Long Haochen’s Glorious Holy Shield.

Magic erupted at close distance. It was a combination of fire and darkness elemental magic, which passed through the defense of the Holy Shield and the Holy Spirit Guard and sent Haochen flying backwards.

Fortunately, with the Soul Linking Chains’ vitality sharing ability, seven lights simultaneously lit up.

From the beginning of the battle, this was the first time Long Haochen faced a crisis.

After aiming his attack at Long Haochen, the Dual-Headed Devil Eagle’s enormous body crashed in the middle of Long Haochen’s squad’s formation.

Facing this crisis, the seven members of the 21st Demon Hunt Squad didn’t have any hesitation at all. Before launching the attack that killed the Golden Dual Bladed Demon, Long Haochen had already given them a signal. Due to this, his comrades were prepared in advance.

A black figure suddenly appeared in front of this Dual-Headed Devil Eagle. This massive figure’s appearance caused the Dual-Headed Devil Eagle, prepared to continue his attacks, to become stiff, stopping his attacks at once.

It was not only him, all the other demons surrounding Long Haochen’s group had the same reaction. This was caused by a gigantic Black Dragon that had suddenly appeared in front of the Dual-Headed Devil Eagle.

This Black Dragon was over ten meters tall, and the members of the two Demon Hunt Squads were all standing on his back. His enormous wings unfolded at his sides, giving him an intense intimidating appearance. Every demon facing his massive figure, immediately looked lifeless.

At this time, an enormous golden ball fiercely struck the Dual-Headed Devil Eagle from the side. The terrifying blast drew a miserable scream from the Dual-Headed Devil Eagle.

This plan was calculated in advance, giving the Dual-Headed Devil Eagle no chance to take advantage of the situation, causing him to fall to the ground.

The gesture Long Haochen did previously as he launched Bright Rain – Thrusting Hibiscus, was for the rest of the team to coordinate with him. Long Haochen was sent flying but the others were already prepared to follow up.

Han Yu Qian was now taking over Long Haochen’s role, with Lin Xin and Chen Ying’er protected at his back. At this very moment, Haoyue’s body was illuminated in a dazzling splendor, making use of defensive magic to protect the two mages on his back.

That enormous Black Dragon had without a doubt the real appearance of one of the Demon God Emperor’s guards, but of course, it was a fake. The little pig McDull, who had already watched passively for so long, now got the chance to make use of his strength.

This was only an imitation without any offensive power, but the sudden appearance of a Black Dragon caused a terrible suppression on the side of the shocked demons. It was down to the extent that the Dual-Headed Devil Eagle was violently bombarded by Sima Xian’s Energetic Ball of Light, before he had the chance to react.

Sima Xian’s attack also was only launched after using Storing Power. Right after Long Haochen did his gesture, his Energetic Ball of Light was swung at the sky, and launched an all-out attack, not only carrying the power of Ripples of Light, but also at the same time the Sacred Hammer ability with the full power of its terrible weight, directly smashing the Dual-Headed Devil Eagle head-on.

The Dual-Headed Devil Eagle wasn’t weak physically, but his forte lied in magical attacks. However, it was doomed by its comparably weak defensive power. Under such circumstance and against such a terrible weapon, he did not only lose his balance from the bombardment of attacks, but was felled by the combination of Crush, Ripples of Light, and Sacred Hammer.

An ear-piercing boo hoo sound rang from nowhere. With Sima Xian attacking now, how could Wang Yuanyuan not follow? The Gigantic Divine Soul Shield appeared out of nowhere, sharply striking the Dual-Headed Devil Eagle at his left wing.

Wang Yuanyuan’s choice of aim was very clever, and although the Dual-Headed Devil Eagle’s defensive power could not compare with the demons specialized for close quarter combat, he was still at the seventh step. If she had aimed at another place, she would at most have wounded him lightly. But the area around its wings was different. This place contained a lot of nerves, and was also the crucial part enabling him to fly.

With a miserable shriek, half of the Dual-Headed Devil Eagle’s wing was forcibly chopped off.

At this time, Long Haochen had already returned. Although he had been blasted away, he managed to avoid any real wounds on other body parts than his arms by the means of his powerful defense, and the defensive reinforcement from the two spells of the sixth step. He even managed to recover his Glorious Holy Shield on his way back.

The Light Elemental Fairy Yating’s body suddenly lit up in a gaudy golden color, spreading to Long Haochen’s back. It came from the launch of Radiant World, which temporarily transfered light essence to Long Haochen. Although this gave him a non-negligeable burden, it let him recover the great amount of spiritual energy to launch this blow.

The Dual-Headed Devil Eagle was severely wounded. Nevertheless, with a glint in his eyes, an enormous darkness and fire dual-elemental bright mantle rushed forth from his body. But unfortunately, he was already unable to block Long Haochen at that time.

Asura Strike!

Ripples of Light caused Asura Strike’s originally terrifying power to became even more unreasonable, and in the midst of flames and darkness, Blue Rain, Hibiscus of Light pierced through the Dual-Headed Devil Eagle’s body, easily cutting his body in two.

When the Dual-Headed Devil Eagle fell on the ground, losing his flying ability, he was already doomed to death.

Luc Xi’s group of six opened their eyes wide. When Long Haochen’s group of seven burst out with explosive power, the 22nd general grade Demon Hunt Squad was already out of contention, but they didn’t even fully understood what happened, just seeing a Dual-Headed Devil Eagle die so easily.

    thank you or the chapter!

    thank you

  • Jonathan Hurd

    Thanks Toto and Sponsers.

So good to see Mcdull going Ham, lol.

    • Luke Confidential

One thing about it, with McDull around this story will never be boaring.

  • Luke Confidential

The best part of McDull using the form of the Emperor’s personal guard so much is that the personal guard of an Emperor is liable to have a secondary ‘State Police’ type role.

So it’s a pig, imitating a dragon who has the social role of a pig.

    • James Michael Ult

dude… the human faction should have pissed on themselves just by looking an emperor guardian, it doesnt even matter if it was charging at the demon force…

“THE” big shot MUST be here, that should be the first thought the human alliance come with…

that part of the plot i have issues with XD… because if the human faction could inmediatly understand that it was a fake… why demons couldnt? they may be muscle heads but not retarded…

      • Schattenbach

The humans shouldn’t know about that ability so yeah … that looks like something that wasn’t really thought out … especially because it’s a move that should make the humans fall into a state of panic as well.

        • Jonathan Hurd

Your in the middle of a heated battle and the thing seems to be on your side. Why question it? If it is a mistake who cares take advantage to kill the demons and figure out the situation later.

          • Schattenbach

            The unanswered question is …

[This was only an imitation without any offensive power, but the sudden
appearance of a Black Dragon caused a terrible suppression on the side
            of the shocked demons]

            &

[Seeing that enormous Black Dragon head towards the demons, the various
races of demons felt confused at his oppression towards demons. Of
course, they were unable to understand why a personal guard of His
Majesty Demon God Emperor would attack them. For a moment, those middle
ranked demons lost all desire for battle.]

… why that devil dragon, that up until now, didn’t do anything expect looking scary and (“for whatever reason”) moving towards the demons, only shocks the demons and has no particular effect towards the humans.

Sure, the demons are naturally scared by something “that strong” (as that’s due to their “the-strong-eat-the-weak” society in which those dragons are embodiments of terror), but the humans shouldn’t stay unfazed, either, when such a scary demon suddenly appears.

          • Jonathan Hurd

I would say it is the sheer shock of the situation. Think of it as your in a fight with someone and then suddenly someone jumps in between you and your opponent. That intruder is familiar to you and your opponent as the opponents friend. That intruder then takes out a semi automatic and points it at your opponent. To start with the situation itself is so weird and unexpected to begin with that it is hard to understand how to feel. You might feel some fear at the weapon, but the fact that it is not pointing at you means that you are not as uneasy about it as your opponent will be. Sure you are shocked at the situation, but again the threat is not being leveled at you and as they say ‘why look a gift horse in the mouth’?

      • Sarlisark

Also it is a black dragon, and like ,sometime when he was on the sacred mountain was said, there are other dragons and some knights, summoners or others have got dragons as mounts or contracted beasts. and so why should those contracted dragons not be a black dragon, we do not know wheter all black dragons or dragons are basically on the side of demons unless subdued by something else.

So if it is facing the demons and seemingly protecting humans it would be reasonable to assume the dragon for whatever reasons is on the side of the humans(though a dragon as mount for 5th or 6th steppers is a bit of a stetch especially if its a black dragon)

        • Jonathan Hurd

If I remember correctly the Demon God Emperor and his body guards race is not Black Dragon but Devil dragon. I believe they came from taken over/corrupted black dragons so the possibility of Black Dragons existing is still there. I would say though what McDull transforms into is those Devil Dragons, since that is what he saw to copy, who have a very distinct look especially to demons.

  • Luke Confidential

Don’t you just love how the author says something like ‘a Dual-Headed Devil Eagle die so easily’?

Sure he didn’t cause any massive damage, but he was facing a united front of 7 highly united and reasonably powerfulish combatants including Austin Griffon [and a terrifying visage] and he cost LHC more than half his Internal Spiritual Energy. If there were another 7th step demon [or a good sized squad of 6th step] to capitalize on this these two squads would be in serious trouble.

    • felix

Technically, at least as far as I understand from the story so far and the previous level ups LHC has went though, the fact they can fight even as a team against a opponent of a step above theirs is incredible, because the steps are suppose to be so large in quality that even 1 step above is enough to make one invincible to a gank of several that are 1 step bellow. It feels like how it’s suppose to work, is the same as comparing a foot soldier to a tank, or a tank to a jet fighter.

I think the author is trying to avoid doing too much boring exposition detailing how a normal squad would fair (such as Luc Xi’s squad, or the others) at the cost of context ambiguity in the story.

I mean, Luc Xi’s squad is suppose to be “insanely good” and they’re still nothing big compared to LHC. We’ve been exposed to so much of LHC’s squad OPness (not even counting their equipement) that for me at least its even hard to imagine what a “average squad” would look like. We don’t even know what soldier grade squad would look like; except that they’d be as poor compared to even pre-caverns LHC squad.

To go back to your comment, maybe the author should have added: “If facing other squads, several might have died before the Dual-Headed Devil Eagle was even injured” since that’s kind of what it sounds like.

      • Luke Confidential

Yeah, compared to the cost other squads would have had to pay to overcome these challenges it was easy, I just don’t consider this an easy fight.

Mildly challenging is probably a better way to describe it. [Anything less than ideal teamwork and they could have easily lost members.]

    • Jonathan Hurd

The first thing I would say is that he has lost over half his Internal Spiritual Energy after killing multiple 3-5 steppers, a Fiend Lord, A Dual Headed Devil Eagle, and the Golden Dual blade. That was the only price he paid. No serious injuries, no one close to death, no one completely exhausted of all his internal spiritual energy. Just a large portion of spiritual energy and some sore arms. If that is not easily I don’t know what is.

The thing to remember is how hard it is to get people to the 7th and even 6th step. Here is a group of 5th step people and they killed a 7th and 6th step together. The more high level demons they send against LHC the less high level demons there are to get in the human 7th steppers way. The sheer fact that LHC’s 13 man group of 5th steppers requires this much attention against them is a massive drain on the Demons army.

As Felix said as well being able to not only jump 1 step but 2 and kill an enemy is not ordinary even if they are working together. Add to it that the ones who killed the two this time was just LHC’s squad as Luc Xi’s got to watch.

    • Schattenbach

Normally, that 7th step demon would blast groups of 5th step people with a few powerful magic attacks and they’re done for, being unable to do pretty much anything to it … and even in case they somehow manage to bring it to the ground once or twice, they should still have a hard time dealing with due to the sheer difference in raw strength, while also getting blasted by it’s powerful magic at close range.

  • Schattenbach

    Thanks for the chapter.

What’s with that odd claim about vast human superiority .due to ..

It’s not like demons don’t have significantly stronger (weaponized) bodies and natural armors (that, due to the demons evolving nature, should grow to some degree together with them as well … we’ve already been told that several demons have quite though bodys and powerful natural armor) when compared to humans … so I don’t think ordinary spiritual tier equipment (as it should be the norm of powerhouses of the fith step) should make that much of a difference as to make a single 0815 fighter equal three or four demons of the same step. It’s likely true that high-quality equipment (above average/top grade for it’s classification level) should make a difference, but as things have been explained thus far, only when the equipment vastly surpasses one#s own current rank (overequipped) or when it’s broken Tier equipment or something approaching divine Artifacts things should reach the degree that humans really get the upper hand to the degree that a single 0815 fighter equals three or four demons of the same step.

    • Schattenbach

What’s with that odd claim about vast human superiority … due to equipment*

      • Majk

Well its not exactly superiority but it’s a big factor in every fight. Just imagine a human vs demon fight without equipment. The human will die 9 out of 10 times because even if they are on the same step the human body is inferior to demons. On the other hand demons dont have equipment which is a huge hole in the strength. The demon bird that was killed in this chapter was killed only because it has a weak defence imagine if it would have armor to compensate for that it could have survived and continued to disturb human soldiers hell if the three Demonic Eye Soldiers would have armor then they could have a chance to live long enought for other demons to help them but insted they got cut down but battle axes and swords.

You also seem to forget that the majority of fighters in this war are at or below the 5th step. This goes for demons as well as humans and makes spiritual tier equipment worth using. The normal soldier is not all that powerful and like I said would die in a 1 on 1 with a demon but because they have their equipment they can fight and survive. Of course the higher tier equipment makes bigger impact on a fight but this war has and will be a war of attrition where the strength of the whole army is more important than the power of a few dozen people.

        • Schattenbach

I’m refering to this bit here …

[With both sides at the fifth step,
a single human by himself could handle three or four demons. This was
due to their difference of equipment! Even an ordinary armor gave them a
          better protection than demons.]

Unless these guys (who aren’t DHS members) are – somehow – extremely overequipped for their rank/current cultivation (as it is the case with, for example, Haochen’s squad), the difference shouldn’t be this big.

Maybe you’re overlooking that demons indeed do have armor … their natural weapons and armor, that is, that, depending on what kind of demon they are, actually quite powerful (so powerful in fact that one might actually need multiple powerful focused attacks to penetrate their armor and harm then … Dark Green Dual Bladed Demons have been quite troublesome for quite some time for Haochen’s squad – if we ignore the fact that Cai’er actually had daggers of glorious tier and above to stab the weak points in their armor with – as powerful offensive and defensive threat … and plenty of other demons haven’t been shown to be easily damaged either).

In the case of that 7th step demon, it seems like you’ve also overlooked some very important details … as that demon is basicially an aerial mage-type enemey (so mobility + powerful magic specialization) … now compare that demon’s armor to whatever armor (and weapons … Lin Xin’s new staff is at the legendary tier which is reasonably average for someone … especially when considering that the Mithril Foundation Armor – which that Blue Rain Thrusting Hibiscusis move managed to penetreate even before upgrading to it’s current level that is now, after its powerup, also capable of dealing severe damage to demons at the 7th step with it’s special in combination with Haochen’s generally improved strength – also still at the legendary tier if memories serve right) comparable mages (that also have to take great mobility into account … and as point of note … mobility is something that improves both offense and defense) of the 7th step might have.

          • Jonathan Hurd

The big thing with equipment is that even just plain magical gear helps people focus and strengthen their internal Spiritual Energy. Past the magical and into Spiritual means your items get abilities. For instance remember LHC’s bracelet that could instantly launch Holy Mantles? That is instant defense with no prep time. Lin Xin’s stave can cast two spells and massively speed up his cast time. No matter how you look at it if two people are of the same step and one has equipment that speeds him up he is going to have an advantage. That is something demons severely lack and cannot do.

As Majk said if we had a a naked human and demon fight 9 out of 10 times the demon is going to win. The thing is though that the demons strength is set in stone. There is no improvement without him evolving. The Human on the other hand can keep becoming stronger with better gear augmenting their abilities. This flexibility is something the demons sorely lack.

I would say no one is disagreeing that demons bodies have some natural armor to them. Especially front line fighters like Dark Green Dual blade demons. The difference is though that there is a limit to how tough a 5th Step Dark Green can be. The only way for them to get stronger is to be lucky enough to evolve which is already a small chance. On the other hand a 5th step human like LHC has increased his defensiveness massively by putting on a new armor.

The other thing to consider is that both Humans and Demons gain the benefit of being at the higher steps. So remember the Fiend Lord used Brilliant Body to defend himself. So can a human of the 7th step. The difference though is that the 7th step human can also put on armor that increases their defensiveness or focuses their power even further.

Humans versus demons is a trade off of Quality versus Quantity, otherwise humans would have been pushed over long ago. The humans cannot possibly hope to have as many fighters as the demons, but at the same time since they have less number they can equip those few better.

          • Schattenbach

Ah … sorry, my point wasn’t that humans couldn’t get stronger by cultivating and using better combat gear (demons still have to count on their ability to evolve just like magical beasts do … though at least some demons most certainly cultivate) … but that for a situation like …

[With both sides at the fifth step, a single human by himself could handle three or four demons. This was due to their difference of equipment! Even an ordinary armor gave them a better protection than demons.]

… to appear, the humans in question have to be massively overgeared.

Please keep in mind that the average equipment for the 5th step is still (good quality) Magical Tier equipment or at best (after some time of hard work or if someone has rich parents or some kind of sponsor) Spiritual Tier equipment. Being equipped with one average piece of glorious tier equipment (worth at least 3,500 contribution points … that’s like killing 350 Dark Green Dual Bladed demons or killing around 35,000 Dual Bladed Demons … so it’s not like the temple alliance is handing that equipment out without someone actually working hard for it) which might actually result in some quite significant difference isn’t exactly the norm for powerhouses below the 6th step, neither is being equipped with one piece of equipment at the peak of the glorious tier (as it is the case with some of the really powerful equipment of Haochen’s squad … things like that are worth around 30,000 contribution points or, in terms of required killed demons, around 3,000 Dark Green Dual Bladed demons or killing around 300,000 Dual Bladed Demons … so it’s not like the temple alliance is handing that equipment out without someone actually working hard for it, either).

Your point about that “Humans versus demons is a trade off of Quality versus Quantity” is obviously correct, however that’s not the entire story, as otherwise it would make sense to rank demons the same way as magical beasts (which are always considered to be one step lower when compared to human powerhouses due to their lack of equipment) … because while there are various demon races that are more about quanity (like the demonic eye soldiers that are inferior to human mages but come in greater quantity … or the 4th step fiend cavalaries that can only endanger the angelic knight regiment – made up of 3,000 5th step knights … accompanied by their mount as well as one 5th step assassin – while outnumbering them three to one … though the last example is actually quite impressive when considering the difference in cultivation) there are also demon races with overbearing individual strength (though with significantly lower quantity … however … with so many demon clans around, the number of their high-end powerhouses is still much higher) and equipment use (although inferior to whatever the humans accumulated over the years) as well as spiritual stove (dark elemental spirutal stove ecetera) use isn’t that uncommon within some clans, either (Grand Fiend Clan … likely also Clans like the Moon Demon Clan).

          • Jonathan Hurd

Well the first thing I would say as far as the gear goes I believe the Army and the DHS’s equipment situation work in different ways. The DHS’s are forced to pay contribution points as incentive for them to fight harder and bigger challenges because they are not beholden to the army or the temple. The army can’t give them orders, but at the same time this means they have no incentive to give them gear for free as well. The army however is more likely to issue a set of gear since they can directly give orders and move these troops. They don’t need to offer rewards for killing enemies because that is your job in the army.

Take for instance the Angelic Knight Regiment every single one of them was equipped with the same glorious armor for them and their mounts basically as part of their standard issue. We know that the general rank and file soldiers of 2nd step were given normal leather armor and weapons because they are cannon fodder and cannot make the best use of better gear so it would be a waste to issue them better stuff. These 5th steppers sent by the temples however are a different story. They are the prepared troops and I wouldn’t doubt they are probably just as geared as the Angelic Knight troops. A 5th stepper steeped in Spiritual Gear probably can as the story argues fight on par with 3-4 other 5th steppers even if they can’t kill them they could at least survive.

I would also say that the big reason the Fiend Calvary gives the Angelic Calvary headaches is the Fiends ability to focus their power. Remember they are usually lead by someone around the 6-7th step. The small 4th steppers might not have as much cultivation as the Knights 5th steppers, but if a 6th stepper has 5 or 6 of those 4th step Fiends channel their power into him that can make for a rather devastating concentrated blow that none of the knights can take head on. Basically the Angelic Calvary might have the advantage of numbers in that case, but they lack the Fiends ability to consolidate that power together.

On another note I definitely agree there is plenty of Quality to the demons side too especially within the top 10 clans. Otherwise the humans would actually probably hold some advantage and be able to push back. Most notably is how powerless almost all the humans are in the face of the Demon God Emperor. Even the strongest human offensive was only able to mortally wound a Demon God Emperor who was past his peak of power anyways. The funny part about fighting the small group of super elites is that the equation can then turn the other way. It would then be humans trying to overcome Quality with Quantity. Humans may not be able to compare with number of 9th steppers, but if they equip the crap out of a large group of 8th steppers they can at least try to take the 9th stepper with them.

The other thing to think about is that the Highest end players keep each other in check. Just like in this battle how everyone 8th step and above is blocking the other 8th steppers and above. We see this in a way with the Demon God Slayers blocking the Demon God Emperor. As well as probably Xingyu being in charge of blocking Anan. This can mean that the winning side may not be the one with the stronger top rankers, but the side with the better small fry. A 7th stepper probably can’t do too much to someone of 8th step or above, but he can be distracting and heal or support the demons opponent.

For the Spiritual Stoves I am looking forward to finally seeing a Demon who has one. The only sad part about that is the Stoves are amazingly rare so I don’t expect we’ll be seeing a demon wielding one anytime soon. I would bet if anyone is going to have one though he would probably need to be of the 8th step or higher since even the 7th steppers seem like mid level commanders for their troops.

Interestingly, the knights of the Angelic Knight troops clean up (massacre) most enemies below 5th step with those special
Angel Wings of their equipment – in combination with their mounted
charge – while those 5th step assassins accompanying the Angelic Knight troops actually do employ high-powered zerg-rush strategies against powerful enemies … what with 10 assassins attacking enemies of the 6th or 7th step at once, trying to take them down with numerous powerful blows (which is, apperantly, quite successful).

          • Jonathan Hurd

They are fully using the advantage of a cavalry charge and that is momentum. It is hard for the lower enemies to stand in the way of a torrent of opponents and it is also hard to swarm a mobile and fast target like them. The Assassin’s work to make sure anyone potentially strong enough to stop the charge is also taken care of so that they can keep moving forward. Assassin’s or Knights alone would not be nearly as effective. The reason I would say the Fiends cause them headaches is that the Fiend cavalry works in a similar fashion focusing their power like the Assassin’s, but the Fiends can concentrate it better and they don’t lose out in terms of mobility or working with mounts.

          • Schattenbach

            Some other point …

Overall, it was originally stated that (if one ignores the 72 demon gods, that are so powerful that it easily changes things in favour of the demons) the military might of humans and demons is nearly equal (or at least equal enough for humanity to consider itself the rival of the demons) thanks them possessing many legacys (weapons & Co.) from the Glorious Era that the demons have no access to (as well that humans have been growing in strength due to them hording treasures over the past view thousand years). That doesn’t mean that demons don’t have access to high-quality items and combat-gear, either, just that humanity has quite a bit more of them accumulated over all these thousands of years.

So the high ranking legacies (Divine Artifacts and “limited Edition” weapons and armors with special characteristics as well as all those gathered spiritual stoves) do indeed make an difference that might come down to the might of several powerhouses of comparable cultivation (as it should be the case with Divine Thrones, Top Ranked Spiritual Stoves, ecetera).

As for why we might not have seen any Spiritual Stoves in use on the demon’s side … it’s not like most demons possess true free will … they’re still under the (direct or indirect) control of the 72 demon gods (or, more specific, their respective demon god) … so them being forced to give their better equipment to those at the top of the food chain (demon gods, 8th step & 9th step demons) that already managed to prove themselves (i.e. … reaching the top of their food chain … well that and that those at the top of the food chain would like to secure their position even further by monopolizing the rare goods as much as possible) in addition to the fact that several spiritual stoves are specialized for the use of one human profession or another (like assassin) reduces the actual use some of these spiritual stoves have for demons (though some of them might still be able to use them) which might be why they’re exchanging spiritual stoves against food or other necessities.

          • Jonathan Hurd

Oh definitely. I get the feeling that it is most likely that when a Demon God passes his position to his successor not only would he hand over the thrown, but he would be likely to hand over any Spiritual Stoves he owns too. The other thing to remember is that out of all the humans we have met including powerhouses up to 9th step we have not seen many actually take out a spiritual stove. These are treasures that are limited in number and nobody has a way of reproducing. This leads to scarcity being rather high.

I would say that in general it does seem like it could be possible for demons to equip weapons and armor if they put their mind to it, but I don’t think that really suits them. They struggle with overwhelming reproduction rates so they are better off having causalities and those who can rise above will have a chance to evolve. The constant battles act as a sort of filter to find the cream of the crop. The way demons work as well is they are natural born killing machines. They are literally built to fight and nothing else. Otherwise they wouldn’t be starving to death so much since they are completely unsuited to farming. Keeping that in mind that probably means they would also completely stink at crafting any kind of armor. So if the option was allocate the few humans they do control to farming or weapon crafting I think the choice is fairly obvious given the current situation.

    • Genericfuton

This seemed to mostly be considering things like the magic cannons that can cause mass casualties and allow weaker mages and such to do so. Meaning it takes less time for them to develop to the point of doing so. Also equipment allows for rapid increases in fighting effectiveness and I think the demons take time to evolve to the same point.

Also recall that the demons do not seem intent in eradicating humans and are holding back for the time being until they can properly intergrate and thus use human strengths better. Thus humans might be overestimating their equipment as far as it tips the scales.

      • Jonathan Hurd

I believe the chances of evolution are amazingly small for most of the clans, and for the clans that are especially strong their birth rates are amazingly low. So Demons have amazing amounts of cannon fodder and humans have a lot of cannons, :D.

I would point out also that Demons are not intent on eradicating humans because of the massive attrition doing so would cost. If humans were absolutely no threat I don’t think for one the Demon God Emperor would want them to join his side and for two he would bother holding off his attack if it was easy to do it.

EDIT:looks like toto hid the chapter name again, let me guess fight against a demon god? Please be it, or return of his parents °^°

    • dreamer

My guess is “Ensnare the opponent of the seventh step (III)” because recently every title last 3 part 😀

      • Evilage

What was the point of hiding the title then?

        • dreamer

Maybe just forgot to put it there? idk.
But from what Robin said I think my guess is closer to the truth 😀

    • Robin

Sadly not that soon. But what is to come is amazing. ;D

      • Evilage

so you read the chinese version or from google translate??

weapons are a big factor even The bloodthirsty demons only have Claws their bodies might be a little bit stronger because of spiritual energy of the four step but in the end they only have Claws up against a sword they are at a disadvantagedual blade demons have pikes for arms so against a sword they are at a disadvantage let a loan a half class magical sword One chapter though LHC body was stronger than the average human because spiritual energy the light Fairy could not pierced his skin

    • Schattenbach

Sufficient external spiritual energy makes the body very though … which is why Lin Xin’s Jade Protection pills originally were considered to be so amazing … because 500 additional units of external spiritual energy (that make the body as hard as steel or whatever the correct description was) would be enough to block most or all attacks below the 5th step (well … 5th step warriors … at least those at the early stages of the 5th step … hardly possess 500 units of external spiritual energy to begin with and it’s uncommon for knights – who didn’t get their external spiritual energy boosted so much as thanks to their blood-contracted broken-mount – to have nearly as much external physical energy) or otherwise make them ineffective.

Teamwork starting to look good. Thanks for the chapter

“An ear-piercing boo hoo sound”? Might that be a whining noise? ‘Boo hoo sound’ seems really strange.

  • Schattenbach

I’m still thinking that it is extremely risky for Haoyue to be there (at that battlefront) at all … the same goes for Haochen’s DHS (as well as to some degree to the 22th general grade squad) as this whole scene still looks like some attempt to create an emergency through which the DHS are forcefully deployed (forcefully deploying troops and DHS during emergencies apperantly is something akin to standard procedure for the Temple Alliance so it would be strange for it to not happen if one just creates a big enough ruckus) to the frontline (a good opportunity to get ride of the weaker DHS teams that are still growing and will only become troblesome later by sending a few powerhouses after them to kill them off while the alliance’s powerhouses are busy fighting the sky) to draw out those two Demon Hunting Squads Austin was with (like I already said … in case the Demon God Emporer bothered with checking out the situation at the Desolated Hissing Cave and noticed Autsin there, he would be foolish to not mark those DH Squad members that were there together with him … as the last time Austin was seen was at the alliance fortress were the newer DH Squads were obiously deployed and performed missions) to either question them or eliminate them (especially in case of Austin being there as well … to freely kill Austin or to take him captive or whatever else the demons are planning to do with him) or both. Even if it wasn’t done for the sake of drawing out the DHS Austin was with (or Austin himself), coming to a place were 12 demon gods are fighting is like asking for being noticed by the Demon God Emperor (as he’s likely paying attention as well). There’s also that #3 ranked demon god oracle that was busy with some oracle-related task … likely warning them about Austin, Haochen+Cai’er or (although much less likely) some other threat like some invasion from enemies from some other dimension (as it was suggested a few chapters ago when it coms down to “who the final boss might be”).

And with 12 demon gods present (some of those should also have subordinates at the peak of the 7th step, or at the 8th or 9th step) , the Temple Alliance already has to dispatch at least a few powerhouses of the 9th step as well as several dozen powerhouses of the 8th step in their attempt to suppress them, so if someone other demon powerhouse shows up (they still got more than enough powerhouses at the 8th and 9th step in reserve) then Haochen & Co. are more or less done for if they’re being targeted because those in the sky are a bit too busy dealing with the demon gods & Co.

    • dreamer

Since demon god rank 2-60 is in 9th step, 61-72 in 8th step, I think the number of demon power house beyond 7th step are not that much in this war.
About hao yue, as long as he only use normal skill I think the demon gods there won’t notice. Because the 3 demon gods previously only notice after he use some special skill (I think it was right before the chase when hao yue’s 3 head all turn to wind element)

      • Schattenbach

They noticed Haoyue back then when he used that special (soul?) cry move (which, while much smaller in scale compared to whatever “mysterious” moves the two other demon gods with their weird roars/light waves used, was able to make those three demon goda back then questionabout how they’re supposed to proceed from then on onwards) and the demon god emporer pretty much noticed Haoyue’s presence (while checking out from far away whst’s going on in that cave) without Haoyue doing anything in particular until he suddenly disappeared (sure, Haoyue used something that might’ve been his soul power but he used it while close to the tower … and the power apperantly blocks observation and such which also explains the reason why Haoyue suddenly “vanished” … because he moved to the tower) and he was quite sure of himself to figure out Haoyue’s location by means of mental probing and scanning the entire area around the fortress were Haoyue originally was supposed to be (around 50 days or so ago) for traces of Haoyue and Haoyue only managed to avoid his detection by imitating Haochen’s presence to the best of his abilities.

So if they don’ specifically look for Haoyue (or the members of the two Demon Hunting Squads that were at the cave), then unless Haoyue does something stupid (any move that might expose his identity, be it some spell that might get identified or getting the attention of any demon powerhouse that is tasked with looking out for any “three-headed-creature” or other suspicios things like that), he should be safe for now. If they do look for him in particular, then he#s pretty much done for (due to appearing at a place were he gets the demon god emporer’s attention – and really, it#s unlikely that a place were 12 demon gods are fighting isn’t getting the demon god emperor’s attention if even a place like the Desolate Hissing Cave got his attention … and if the Demon God Emporer ordered this attack specifically to draw him out, then it#s all the more unlikely that he isn’t paying attention from afar – despite being outright told to avoid places like that) because there’s no way that he’s going to avoid the demon god emporer’s (or his trusted subordinates who’re specifically looking for Haoyue) detection.

  • Schattenbach

Am I the only one who finds giving a thumbs up in the middle of a battlefield, a little awkward? (I always end up picturing them grinning ear to ear when doing it, just so not cool) Plus, isn’t their group pushing it by making McDull transform into a Black Dragon? What if that performance catches the eyes of one of the demon gods and they decide to investigate the “traitor” that is among them?

    • hargs sgrah

no i find that the Chinese adopting the thumbs up isa strange too, thumbs up is kinda outta style here in American maybe in euro too) but they can do what they want with it, no harm done after all

With the talk of Long being blasted back and all, I notice there is no mention of Cai’er who just so happens to be ON HIS BACK at these times.
