Shen Yin Wang Zuo, Chapter 263

Shen Yin Wang Zuo, Chapter 263: Return? Mission Complete? (I)

“Mh.” Agares naturally didn’t answer immediately, only making an ambiguous sound.

As promised, Fengxiu changed the subject, “This time, there’s another reason why I had to look for you. Do you know what the Fiends discovered in the Desolate Hissing Cavern?”

Agares looked up, “I heard a bit about this affair, but the cavern is in the Fiend Territory, which is why I couldn’t investigate it thoroughly.”

Fengxiu disdainfully declared, “Sami Keane is really an idiot. He lost manpower numbering over a hundred, but still wanted to keep all the information to himself, trying to stay low-key on the matter. Does he really think he will be able to conceal everything from me this way? ”

Agares muttered, asking irresolutely, “Boss, do you think I should get involved in this?”

Fengxiu shook his head and replied, “There’s no need. After hearing about it, I used my mental energy to examine the area around the Desolate Hissing Cavern and didn’t discover anything, so there should be nothing valuable. Sami Keane is just looking for his own disgrace. As for his subordinates, they weren’t necessarily lost in the cavern. Maybe they ran into a human Demon Hunt Squad.”

Hearing those three words, Agares’ complexion immediately became unsightly. All the Demon Gods loathed Demon Hunt Squads, these unpredictable human powerhouses were a great enemy that could attack at any time. Agares alone had already been targeted by Demon Hunt Squads over ten times, and had once even been heavily injured.

Fengxiu wrinkled his brows, “This matter isn’t up to much, but recently, I felt that guy’s presence.”

Agares was shaken by these words, “That guy? The one you mentioned last time..?”

Fengxiu nodded, “The heavenly calamity… When the fifty second ranked Allocer previously reported it to me, I personally went to the Exorcist Mountain Pass to verify his presence, but could not find him. However, I felt his presence for real this time. Although it was in a weak state, that aura’s purity couldn’t be faked. The heavenly calamity very possibly really arrived in this world. It’s just that we can’t tell where he is right now..”

Agares took a deep breath, “Boss, you cannot let the heavenly calamity regain his strength no matter what, otherwise, this will be a disaster for us! In those years, our ancestors united with each other to seal him with difficulty, but it seemed that he still overcame the seal, forcing us to open a space rift to flee in this world. After such an all-out battle, shouldn’t the heavenly calamity be already dead? How can he…”

Fengxiu shook his head, “You don’t know the complete truth on this matter. In those years, the situation was truly complicated, but we weren’t the ones that had opened a space rift. Back then, our elders’ cultivation level was far from being high enough. Only the heavenly calamity could have created the space rift. As for the detailed course of events, it’s better that you don’t learn about it.”

Agares gazed up, “Boss, speak up. If there’s anything you want me to do, I will comply without hesitation.”

Fengxiu replied, “Dispatch all the powerhouses of your clan: we will launch an operation that will seemingly aim at the annihilating the human Demon Hunt Squads, but in truth, we’ll be looking for the heavenly calamity. He’s still in a weak state, but nevertheless, it won’t be easy to handle him. In case you discover something, don’t act blindly without thinking: I’ll have to be the one to intervene personally, if we want a chance to destroy him completely. You’ll have to keep these matters secret; aside from us three brothers, you can’t tell anyone, not even Sami Keane. This will avoid the rise of a panic among our underlings.”

“Yes.”

Fengxiu stood up, “But later is soon enough. Let’s have a drink first. You’ll have to relax before you act.”

Agares smiled bitterly, “Let’s forget about it for the time being. Hearing about the heavenly calamity, I feel uneasy and nervous. I should arrange this matter to be handled first. Boss, tell me all you know about his possible whereabouts.”

Fengxiu nodded, “At the time I felt his aura, he was close to the Desolate Hissing Cavern, but right afterwards he completely disappeared once again. It’s as if he had never appeared there. We only have this much information right now. Command our intelligence to look through it; I leave these matters to you. Within three month’s time, I want a report from you.”

“I will do my best.”

Fengxiu gave him a cold glance, “You cannot only do your best, but you have to succeed no matter what. This is a question of life and death. Although we have yet to meet the real heavenly calamity, he will possibly be able to put us in the same desperate situation as back in the past. That is how terrible this enemy is.”

The waiting time truly felt exhausting for Long Haochen. Lowering his head, he felt extremely uncomfortable.

When the Demon God Emperor finally left, he luckily didn’t feel his terrible glance on him again. The powerhouses of the Moon Clan standing in the front were called by Agares from the main hall, and he finally followed Yue Ye back to her palace quietly.

The two of them entered her palace, and Yue Ye had the maids retire, feeling just like Long Haochen, close to the verge of collapsing. The mental pressure on her was just too great.

“You know, right now, I really want to kill you.” Yue Ye resentfully declared.

Long Haochen smiled bitterly, “I’m in the wrong, I shouldn’t have raised my head. I didn’t expect the Demon God Emperor’s mental energy to be so sharp.”

“You didn’t expect?” Yue Ye suddenly raised her voice, “Do you know that these few words narrowly costed me my life. Okay, hurry up and leave now, head to the address I indicated to you previously. I’ll prepare everything for you to leave as soon as possible.”

“Mh, then I’m leaving.” Long Haochen changed clothes from his maid attire, rapidly recovering his original appearance. After apologizing to Yue Ye once again, he made haste to leave.

Watching his leaving figure, Yue Ye finally loosened her breath, but her expression was still the same, as she was in a state of deep pondering. “His Majesty should have discovered him. But, why didn’t he intervene? Don’t tell me he wanted to give Father some face? But that was completely unnecessary!”

Maybe it was because of the danger the presence of Long Haochen’s group posed for Yue Ye’s safety, but it only took two days before Yue Ye’s message arrived. The caravan had been summoned, and would set off to the Alliance two days later. She had Long Haochen make his preparations.

After having experienced many unpredictable dangers, the goddess of luck was finally on the side of Long Haochen’s group. The Demon God Emperor had given the order to search the whole demon territory to the Moon Demon God Agares, and not someone like the Demon God of Death Saminaga. Under such circumstances, who would dare inspect the caravan belonging to Agares’ dearly beloved daughter?

Moreover, the Yue Ye merchant caravan had just experienced a tragedy a short time ago in the Nareiks Province, causing the Demon God Emperor’s wrath. After having punished the Nareiks Province for this long ago, he even had them make amends for the damage sustained by the Yue Ye Merchant Group.

Due to all those lucky circumstances, Long Haochen managed to return to the Temple Alliance without a hitch despite the demons inspecting the whole territory in search for the heavenly calamity.

Yue Ye didn’t accompany the caravan. She only arranged for a time and place with Long Haochen, where they could conveniently meet, for Cai’er to suppress the restriction on her. After following the Yue Ye Merchant Group to the southeast fort, the two Demon Hunt Squads didn’t dawdle along, but directly passed the fort under Long Haochen’s lead. Having arrived in the nearby Starseeker City, they settled into the rented inn rooms and were finally able to relax for the time being.

Since they safely entered the human territory, they decided that they might as well stay at Starseeker City for the time being, enjoying three days of lethargic sleep.

They were not only physically tired, but also felt emotionally and mentally exhausted. Ever since they left the Temple Alliance to begin this mission, their mind had always been under great stress. Enduring experiences of life and death one time after another, even though they couldn’t ascertain that they had managed to complete the mission, had been a big burden on them.

Only after returning to the Temple Alliance, could they for the first time enjoy a feeling of being at home. This was the first joint operation for both of the two Demon Hunt Squads, and they were far from being used to such a life of danger. Thus, this current period of relaxation was something they really needed.

After enjoying three days of rest, everyone recovered from their mental stress, and they set out once again, heading directly to Holy City. The two teams needed rest and reorganization. Though they didn’t completely accomplish the mission, their gains were plentiful. Be it regarding their own cultivation, the increase of their strength or the gain of experience, they had benefitted like never before.

On the return trip, they made use of a rental cart. It moved very slowly, and it took them no less than fifteen days to return to Holy City. These fifteen days were the ideal time to recap the experiences and harvests they gained from the mission.

After adding up all of his comrades’ contribution points, Long Haochen discovered with shock that the total amount of contribution points they had gained from the mission reached up to 20,000. This was a number they had never expected. Admittedly, the fact that they reaped this amount, relying solely on massacring demons, was actually more accidental than anything else.

But still, it was mainly because of the 21st general grade Demon Hunt Squad’s lead that they gathered such an amount. Actually, seeing the number of powerhouses of the sixth and the seventh step that died at their hands, a low final amount of contribution points would be the really odd outcome.

The 4th soldier grade Demon Hunt Squads’ contribution points were far from this amount, but by counting in the contribution points they had gathered from the period of testing, their current amount of contribution points reached 10,000. Long Haochen didn’t conceal the benefits of raising their grade to the general grade. After having gone through this experience, the 4th soldier grade Demon Hunt Squad’s strength progressed as a whole in the midst of deadly experiences. They already decided that the first thing they would do upon returning was to raise the grade of their own squad.

After discussing it, the seven members of the 21st Demon Hunt Squad decided to stop their system of equal dividing. Going through this much experience, the trust existing between them had progressed to a great level.

An equal splitting led to fairness, but restricted the team’s growth at the same time. Thus, everyone decided to gather their contribution points at one tile, allocating them at the times and fields of need. This was clearly the most fitting decision for the team’s development.

At the time the two Demon Hunt Squads arrived at Holy City fifteen days later, they had truly spent a long time away, and everyone was already on the verge of tears.

As Long Haochen suggested, the two Demon Hunt Squads didn’t return to their respective villas, but first headed for the Demon Hunt Mission Tower to give their report on the mission.

  • Soushi

    first!!

    • Lutre

and last in the same time since it’s not wordpress comment section ;p

  • agila0212

Thank you for the chapter 🙂

  • jbjhova

    Thank you for the update.

  • kirindas

    Thanks for the new chapter!

  • Ragnarok

Thanks for the chapter! Omg, I actually had a suspicion but it was more like a “What if Hao Yue was” thing.

    • Jonathan Hurd

To be fair they have basically hit a bump every single step of this mission except for that final return. I think they deserved at least one step to be peaceful, hehe.

  • Jonathan Hurd

First off thank you for the update Toto.

Wooh they got the 200k contribution points! Huzzah! Don’t let it stop there LHC milk them for all they are worth. Especially when they sent you on a mission that is about 20 times harder than you expected and are qualified for.

    • Evilage

      I agree with you
this mission was similar tl giving a elementary student a collage exam paper
funny thing is they actually completed it xD
the tower should have sent some people after squads after they discovered that the mission was a higher grade one, such irresponsible people, i’m routing for the demons (and haochen as their leader, king and Cai’er as the queen) to destroy humanity

      • Luke Confidential

It’s a good thing word of this event hasn’t reached the Demon God Slayers. There would be hell to pay for letting their successors take on such a mission at this point of their cultivation.

        • Robin

The reaction of the Alliance in general will be fun. Just think about hom many direct descendants of the Hall masters are in the 21st general grade DHS. They won’t take this endangering of their family members lightly.

          • Evilage

Dat and they just risked losing both samsara and scion of light both which barely appear in life(who if teamed up could beat the demons). So they almost lost their hidden trump card

          • Robin

Yeah, this can’t stay without severe consequences.

  • Enuo Akatsuki

“total amount of contribution points they had gained from the mission reached up to 20,000. ”

is this wrong the preview mention 200,000

    • Laidra

The 20,000 contribution points are the points they gathered by killing the demons. And the 200,000 point are the amount they get from the temple alliance by finishing the mission

i think, i could be wrong

      • Evilage

        No, your correct probably
the mission at first was for 20,000 but since it was a higher grade mission they had to increase the points,
as explained in the preview since they completed the missiom they get 200,000 points ( even if they didnt complete it they wouldve given 20,000)
the 20,000 mentioned in this chapter was probably the points gained from killing demons as you explained

        • Luke Confidential

Even after dividing out the 4th Soldier Grade Squad’s share of the mission points, the 21st GG squad isn’t far off from 200k. FAR above it if you account for the ‘free’ wealth they are accumulating from the acquired corpses and their alchemist.

EDIT: seriously, Lin Xin was worth far more than a single Spiritual Stove. And unlike the top tier Spiritual Stoves, he only costs resources [to which he adds immense value] rather than the fighting condition of a squadmate.

          • Robin

I would also say that having Lin Xin AND Cai’er is definitely worth a spiritual stove.

          • Evilage

Comparing cai’er to a stove is needless, how can the first saint daugther who never appeared before be compared to only a rare stove which needs a price in order to use it, cai’er will kill anyone who harms haochen so they cant be compared
now that li xin might become lin xin’s girlfriend that makes him valuable plus he also handles all the fianances, a stove cant doo all these things
so they both are more valuable than stupid stoves

          • Robin

Naturally their worth as a person is immeasurable. But I hinted at their worth for the team’s success and financial benefit.

          • Luke Confidential

That’s what I was referring to. Most teams sell the materials they gather for what they’re worth as base materials. Lin Xin takes those materials and turns them into finished products that the other teams are purchasing [if they can get them at all.]

          • Jonathan Hurd

To be fair without Lin Xin there wouldn’t be a team right now. Even if LHC had another Spiritual Stove without Lin Xin’s pills they would have never held out for him to come save them. So yeah Lin Xin > Spiritual Stove most definitely.

  • Laidra

    thanks for the update

you are doing a great job!

  • Evilage

So does anyone think that DGE really noticed that Haochen was human like Yue ye said?
wow 20k pointsand 200k points for completing a higher grade mission i guess?
wow u wanna see them argue aand be shocked xD
    thanks for the chap toto

    • SWYZ fan

He didn’t notice he was human, he noticed he was beautiful.

      • Evilage

Who knows he might have noticed but chosed to ignore due to him resembling someone?
he did say they look so similar

      • zg44

Given the DGE’s powers, he probably knew exactly who it was (the high potential kid from Exorcist City disguised) but didn’t want to disturb anything… DGE in Exorcist City said he would make him his successor. Not like Haochen is a threat to him in anyway at the moment; Haochen has negligible powers compared to DGE atm.

    • zg44

DGE recognized that Haochen looks exactly like a woman that he knows/knew.

The speculation is that Haochen looked exactly like a younger version of his mom… who may have been related to the DGE in some way (i.e. daughter of one of his many female concubines or something like that).

Also, the mission was upgraded to a King grade mission worth 200k (instead of just a Soldier grade mission); that was shown right after they left with the mission. The 20k points was going to be given to them when they returned having given up on the mission (since it was assumed to be far too difficult for a Soldier grade squad).

      • Evilage

Well i agree with you, i think you made a mistake of what you wrote in the brackets, LHC’s squad is a general grade one, and the mission was higher than that

        • Jonathan Hurd

Go LHC milk them for all they’re worth!

          • Robin

Believe me, he will. *evil grin*

          • Luke Confidential

LHC doesn’t have it in him to milk people.

          • Robin

But Cai’er got hurt because of this “mistake” from the Alliance. I think he can be a suitable badass if it is for her.

          • Evilage

Oh yeah, that maked me wanna see shen yue’s reaction

          • Robin

Yes, I would love to see him react. Measuring his level of wrath on the time he exploded after Haochen didn’t pick her at the selection, his reaction now would be the stuff of nightmares.

          • Evilage

The tower is in for some big nightmares.

          • Schattenbach

It’s especially noteworthy as it’s supposedly the tower’s responsibility to keep the demon hunting squads safety in mind at all times and consider it their highest priority. Seeing as to how much they failed in that regard this time with their “aww … they already set out … let them be so that they may figure out on their own that the mission’s difficulty increased by at least ten times and hope that they, despite them feeling obligated to fullfill their mission, chicken out before they end up in some incredibly bad situation they have seemingly no way to deal with.

          • Robin

Exactly as you say. This is not only negligent, it is absolutely careless to think that they think: Well, yeah, let the newly founded DHS travel this far into the demon territory, where it is absolutely NOT dangerous, only to notice that all was in vain and the mission too dangerous to be solved by them.
But too be fair, as soon as they left, it would be almost impossible to find them. And following them would have endangered the DHS greatly.

          • Trarwios

Remeber that LHC also Said that they was not traveling alone. And she belived that they was going to travel whit a more experienced DHS an not as two neewbie DHS’S.

And when the error was found out she belived that the DHS that they where traveling whit(thought was an experienced DHS) that they will see that the mission was to hard and retur whitout to complete the mission. As explained earlier right after they got the mission and startes to travel.

          • Robin

The problem lies before that. The fact that the tower didn’t check which two squads took the mission is a grave mistake. They were simply too careless with the handling.

          • Luke Confidential

Are they actually authorized to deny a squad a mission appropriate to their rank?

This mission had nothing in it explicitly prohibiting rookie General Grade Squads from taking it. [Until new information came in and the rank was reassessed, at which point even the most hardened veteran General Grade Squad of middle-aged people would have been rejected.]

Bear in mind the tower agent DID try to dissuade LHC, but the youth was quite confident and determined.

          • Robin

I believe it was said that they decide if a DHS is ready for a certain mission. This is exactly why all the blame goes to the administration tower. The clerk didn’t check accordingly if the two squads were a good match but trusted in what he believed would happen. And after he got informed that the level rose, he didn’t do anything to save them.
True there was nothing despite the depth of the penetration into enemy territory to keep them away, but his attempt to dissuade him was still really poor. And there has to been a major flaw in the organisation if a mission can suddenly skyrocket to king grade.

          • Schattenbach

They’re authorized to deny a squad a mission appropriate to their rank if they think that the squad might not be able to complete the mission or is put at too much of a risk by taking that mission on.

            Some points of note:

            # Young Demon Hunting Squad equals both inexperienced (zero accomplished missions) and potentially reckless. That’s the group of people they have to shelter the most. Especially if at
least some of them seem to be either geniuses (at most 25 and at the fifth step … they’re a newly formed demon hunting squad so even if they didn’t mention it, anyone in charge would’ve been able to put
two and two togehter) or super geniuses (at least some of them look significantly below twenty and they’re still at least at the standard of the fifth step!) and are therefore even more
valuable. Moreover, based on the sheer amount of talent ammassed in that demon hunting squad, the background of some of them couldn’t possibly be ordinary (at least some of them
might be the relative of some bigshot – who’s obviously going to be extremely furious if things go south – or someone their respective temple puts much value into as a possible
            cornerstone in the near future).

            # The original mission was … [The Desolate Whistling Cavern is located in the center of the demon territory. Its exploration requires to penetrate a total of 1,150 km deep into the demon territory, passing through four demon provinces. According to our intelligence, hissing sounds will occasionally be heard from the Desolate Whistling Cavern, but reportedly, a sudden geological change occurred there a few months ago, and has very likely exposed some rare gems. If you manage to explore the cavern entirely, you will get an extra reward of contribution points depending on the value of the gems you will bring back. The Desolate Whistling Cavern is currently a place of unknown danger. Nevertheless, it is still needed to enter deeply into the demon territory, which bears a high possibility of encountering demon scouts on the way. The team that accepts this mission has to be extremely prudent.] Turns into: [“That’s not the case, I came to cancel a mission. Please cancel the mission ‘Exploring the Desolate Whistling Cavern’ that was distributed one week ago. According to the newest information, I’m afraid that magical beasts of the eighth or the ninth step would very likely reside in the Desolate Whistling Cavern. It is even possible that some historical remains of ancient times exist there. This increases the mission’s level of difficulty enormously. The rewards for this Exploration Mission have been increase to 200,000 contribution points, and it will be labeled as a king grade mission.”] & [Li Jing smiled bitterly, “The Desolate Whistling Cavern has originally been discovered by a commander grade Demon Hunt Squad. Because they had just completed another mission at that time, two of their members were seriously injured, so they didn’t have the occasion to explore it. They just determined the situation in this cavern with some simple checks. But recently, another general grade Demon Hunt Squad has brought more accurate information back. Powerful fluctuations of spiritual energy were found inside of the cavern, very possibly linked to a formidable magical beast. Furthermore, the demon race has also already dispatched some troops to start exploring it. This is why the degree of difficulty has suddenly been increased to the king grade. If a king grade Demon Hunt Squad handles it, this exploration shouldn’t be too problematic to carry out.”]
When a simple exploration (and mining) mission suddenly turns into something that (in addition to getting its difficulty increased by at least ten times) adds two additional threats the demon hunting squad could end up being caught in-between (that is … whatever is within the cave and whatever of the demon’s forces (that are likely at least powerful enough to face off against a magical beast of the eight step, so some
powerhouses of the sixth step and/or seventh step) might arrive upon at any time … what’s more, there wasn’t only something on the level of a magical beast of the ninth step there but
a legacy that’s overall at least on the level of a high-ranking demon god (so they messed up even more than they originally thought they had by making them face something that’s
            completely out of their league).

            # Moreover, it has only been 5 days since they accepted the mission, so even when taking into account that they departed then and there, they shouldn’t already have reached that cave (in
fact, at that time, despite being in quite the hurry, they didn’t even depart into the demon territory yet … as seen here [The 21st general grade Demon Hunt Squad travelled day and
night accompanied by the 4th soldier grade Demon Hunt Squad, and after only eight days of travel, they reached the southwest border of the Temple Alliance. Long Haochen and Cai’er were
seated on Haoyue’s back, Li Xin was carried by her Rose Unicorn, and the others rode fine horses. … From the eight days of uninterrupted journey, they were already somewhat worn-out.]).

            # It’s not like they would’ve to search blindly for them either as what they would’ve needed to do to catch up to them simply amounts to “heading to their destination” (were things get
            troublesome to begin with)

Each of these points – considering it’s the mission’s tower’s fault to begin with – would’ve warranted that they send out a higher ranked team (that would’ve been able to travel both
safely and quicker to begin with) to the cave to back them up and/or bail them out of a situation they had no way to expect based on what they signed up for. They apperantly didn’t,
instead opting for the “aww … they already set out … let them be so that they may figure out on their own that the mission’s difficulty increased by at least ten times and hope that
they, despite them feeling obligated to fullfill their mission, chicken out before they end up in some incredibly bad situation they have seemingly no way to deal with.” as well as “sucks to be them” option.

          • Robin

Wow, a really long and thorough post, but I agree. The clerk definitely loosed out because he is ready for slaughter. Just wait some more and the chaps will reveal the true reaction of everyone concerned. ^^

          • Schattenbach

Edit: I’ve just added a bit to what’s already been mentioned before by you.

          • Schattenbach

And as the mission tower didn’t even bother to inform them that the amount
of risk is much higher than they could’ve possibly estimated (and, even
while ignoring the demons, if all of them – as normal DHS with members
of the fifth, sixth or, possibly, seventh or even eight step – went down
to the tower, they might’ve suffered a total party kill regardless of
whatever measures they took beforehand due to the tower’s defenses), the
mission tower is so much to blame for this whole farce that it isn’t
            even funny.

        • zg44

Yeah, you had that right; the mission was originally general grade, then upgraded to the 200k king grade.

I just checked, it was Chapter 216 where that was explained.

    • Daene Kendrick

Correction he didnt notice Hao Chen, he noticed the shared aura he has with Hao Yue. Remeber they both share the same aura unless they intentionally supress it and use the others aura to cover their own. This is what Hao Yue used to hide from the DGE before. Also Hao Yue did not open the rift that brought the demons to this dimension, It was the battle between the Church and the Necromancers, though at this point which side caused this catastrophe is uncertain.

Hay YUe is the penicle of existence in their original world, this does not mean he will surpass Cai’er and Hao Chen, Hay Yue has a set cap that he can reach as far as power is concerned where as these two as humans do not have such a cap, their cultivation is continuous.

Hao Yue will have after his final evolution 9 heads, if he makes it to that point, Fire, Wind, Earth, Water, Ice, Darkness, Light, Wood, and Spatial, though in this incarnation he may not have darkness until the final head as his primary element was converted to light by Hao Chen. Which will probably effect his overall evolution and temperment. His character has already been altered and softened by being bonded with Hao Chen the Scion of Light. So this incarnation will be completeley different from any before it, not to mention LHC will evenutally be able to pull energry from Hay Yue for his own use as he grows stronger and more knowledgeble through their bond.

You are mistaken about the rift. The Great Calamity opened the rift.

The ‘rift’ of which you speak is the division in humanity which weakened them prior to the demon’s arrival. Nobody in the human world caused the demons to show up, that was all Austin Griffon.

  • Rreelentless

    thanks for the chapter!

Am I only the one sad we didn’t get more trap Long Haochen?

    • Evilage

We should all wait for the manhua, whenever this chapter will be out

      • Laidra

after reading this novel, i think the manhua is not so good except for the drawings. it skips so mutch that i lost the thread and were very confused

        • Evilage

Err.. i didnt mean the manga was better, i just want to see cross dressing haochen from the manga

          • Jonathan Hurd

You and the rest of us Evilage…. You and the rest of us…..

The common thing for the Manhua’s seems to be that they stray completely away from making anyone look even slightly unpleasant to the eye. I still remember seeing Dugo Bo for Combat Continent and the other Titled Douluo spirit masters who are supposed to be over 90 years old and they look like they are at most in their late 30’s. I understand why they might want attractive characters, but it seems rather stupid to me personally. I think Wang Yuanyuan would seem a bit more appropriate with a bit more muscle especially in the arm region if she is going to wield a shield that big.

          • Luke Confidential

At least it would actually make a twisted sort of sense for Dugu Bo to have a distorted physical appearance [possibly including creepy youthful oldness] because of his condition, but no. The Manhua made the simple acquisition of a 9th Spirit Ring return one’s youthful appearance to any Spirit Master >_<

Bibi Dong and the T.H. [not naming him for the sake of those who haven't read the story] are supposed to clearly stand out for looking like a middle aged person while being a Titled Douluo

          • Jonathan Hurd

To be fair Bibi Dong is actually a middle aged woman and one who puts emphasis on her looks. That at least makes sense why she has a younger/ more beuatiful look. Still have no clue why they thought it was required for the story that getting the 9th ring makes you look like your in your mid 20’s >.<

          • Luke Confidential

That was my point, the fact that she and T.H. got there as early as they did and have as much youth as they do is a reflection of their talent/hard work/luck. It’s almost unheard of for Title Douluo to get a 9th ring before 50.

The manhua threw all that background out with its weird ‘youthful Title Douluo’ crap.

Oh god just watch, all four of the Single Attribute Patriarchs are probably going to wind up reaching Title Douluo by the end of the story and these old farts are going to suddenly look like youngsters again >_<

          • Jonathan Hurd

Thinking about them randomly deaging the patriarchs is just making me really want to avoid ever reading the manhua of Combat Continent, T.T.

For Uncle Ning I think maybe not quite typical but more scholarly. The middle aged part definitely. I kind of imagine him with a pretty dignified look and character, but mixed in with that would be a somewhat warm and approachable atmosphere.

          • Luke Confidential

And a widow’s peak. In my head he definitely had a receding hairline.

        • Robin

Yeah, it jumps all around and skips whole chapters. But sometimes it is cool to get a visual to something you have read.

          • Evilage

Exactly my point, boy the shield girl wasnt how i imagined

          • Robin

No, and I don’t necessarily like her depiction.

          • Evilage

            too short?

          • Robin

            Besides other stuff.

          • Luke Confidential

Too curvy and not muscular enough right?

I seem to recall her being explicitly described as having somewhat of a mannish figure, but I could be misremembering.

          • Robin

That sums it up pretty well. In my mind I see her as a manly built woman with more muscles than curves.

          • Luke Confidential

Sometimes muscle couples quite well with curves, but that’s not how I recall her being described, nor is that the approach the manhua took to depicting her. It’s all feminine charm with maybe traces of boyishness in her face.

          • Robin

I totally agree with her not being depicted as described in the novel. And yeah, curves sometimes mix really well with muscles but the major point is the relation between both. A female warrior doesn’t need to look like a male but still her personality as well as her natural assets go in a different direction from the manhua.

          • Luke Confidential

On the subject of curves, I always found Cai-Er’s depiction in the manhua as a little ridiculous for a 15 year old assassin. If she keeps developing she’s going to have issues >_<

          • Robin

Hahaha, let’s wait and see. Some women are simply earlier than others. And they are still children. But yeah, her depiction is a little ridiculous.

          • Evilage

Curves with muscles so somethung like mikasa from SNK?

          • Evilage

I saw her like that as well, but she became a loli

          • Luke Confidential

Nah, the manhua didn’t destroy her image THAT badly. She’s a decent warrior woman, just too feminine relative to the novel.

          • Evilage

She still looks like a loli to me

  • k1nk4

    thanks for the chapter!

  • Honest Oppai Loving Pervert

    First?

    • Evilage

You will be below middle after a day

  • Anto Wibowo

I womder what will they gain. The quest hasn’t been cancelled hasn’t it?
    Thank you for the chapter!

    • Evilage

You can find out if you read the preview but i guess some people like to wait for the full chapter, wait till tomorrow then, luckily the next chapter is a sponsored one

      • Luke Confidential

I want High Step Austin Griffon to be able to separate his identities into separate lizard dragons each with access to his single massive Internal Spiritual Energy pool.

[I wonder if it really is as I’ve speculated in the past, and each head is a separate Magical Beast of one step lower than the total body, bringing its own Internal Spiritual Energy to the pool.]

  • Zeth

    Thank you very much Totobro!
I knew it, Heven calamity, well, well I’m waiting for more info about him.

    • Jonathan Hurd

Its intriguing to know that the demons weren’t powerful enough to open the gate for themselves it was actually Austin Griffin that did so. I really want LHC to talk to the undead lord in Austin Griffin’s world and find out what he has to say.

      • Luke Confidential

For what it’s worth, the DGE does make it clear he sees the power of their ancestors as inferior to the power they now possess.

This might only really be true of the Demonic Monster Trio, but it’s still a point worth considering.

  • Luke Confidential

Richest Noob General Grade Squad Ever

    • Jonathan Hurd

To be fair they totally deserve it after what they have been through.

      • Luke Confidential

Totally. It’s still going to stun their peers.

The 4th Soldier Grade Squad might be the richest Soldier Grade Squad of all time [assuming other weak slow long-term Soldier Grade Squads gradually replaced lost equipment burning away their slight accumulation of wealth] given that after this they’re walking away with over 40,000 contribution points.

        [Like 43,*** or so]

]EDIT: imagine the look on Yang Wenzhao’s face,

        • Jonathan Hurd

I honestly want to have a chapter in which word gets out to the other soldier grade squads and they’re just hitting their heads against a table. That would be amazing.

          • Luke Confidential

Yang Wenzhao and Luc Xi and Li Xin walk into a bar. [I think Li Xin was the designated Points Holder? It was either her or Luc Xi I’m sure…]

“Hey Luc, why not compare our Contribution Points, see how our teams are faring? Mine just completed a pretty tough Soldier Grade mission.”

“Fine by me. You show first.”

Yang Wenzhao pulls out a points-checking tile, showing a total of 3,000 points with a stupid grin on his face.

“Not bad not bad. But you cannot compare. Li Xin hold up your arm.” Luc Xi holds the testing tile to her and displays over 43,000 contribution points.

            “HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE!?!?!?!?!?”

          • Robin

            I want to see that!

          • Luke Confidential

A big advantage in Contribution Points is actually a self-perpetuating cycle.

More CP = Better Gear = Better Missions = Better CP income.

[There’s also the fact that the more CP one has the better they are able to examine prospective missions. You have to pay to play at the Mission Tower.]

          • Jonathan Hurd

Lol, I love the idea of Sima Xian as a blood mage. That sounds hilarious. Not sure if he could learn even autonomous self healing with his inability to learn healing spells.

My bet is still on LHC giving Han Yu his old armor, sword, and shield so that Han Yu can use the full set and LHC gets to upgrade his armor and shield. Other than that a new stave for Sima Xian and then maybe some armor for the others and ending with those pills that up internal spiritual energy by 1k.

          • Luke Confidential

If such a thing exists, they should buy a superior Alchemist Lab for Lin Xin.

          • Jonathan Hurd

Well he is drowning in Money and materials now. I think that would have to be bought through more normal market than with contribution points. To be fair though with the amount of goods he has he can probably sell Pills and then buy that Alchemist Lab for their villa.

          • Robin

He has half a year in their villa where he surely has installed a whole lab to produce all his alchemical stuff. He will definitely use this time wisely. And with a little luck their spoils of war are sufficient for several months.

So I was making a bit of a parody in another comment comparing the Demon Gods to the Strawhat crew, when I realized that there are three real standout power houses in the 21st General Grade Sqaud as well.

    LHC, Cai-Er and Austin-mother f***ing-Griffon

    • Evilage

      Pfft
      Powerhouses?
you think LHC and Cai’er is considered as powerhouses at the might of Austin Griffin?

      • Luke Confidential

For now. At the present rate he may outstrip them but we don’t know how they’ll develop.

LHC at the least has Necromancy to delve into.

        • Evilage

can necromacy be compared to having all element heads?(my theory anyways)

          • Luke Confidential

If elements are so thoroughly divided as to have freaking SPACIAL magic, I doubt he’ll have ALL element heads lol.

          • Evilage

Well atleast he’ll have the main element heads, and plus his original element of darkness,
i think as he is feared as much he will be probably stronger than the DGE.

          • Luke Confidential

I’m sure he will have a Spacial Head, that’s almost certainly the one that opened the rift.

I just imagine this setting has too many elements for him to have them all.

          • Evilage

I think he will have 7 to 9 heads, its always an odd number

          • Jonathan Hurd

Pretty sure the max is 9 heads since the contract mark LHC got from Hao Yue has 9 corners and each one lights up when Hao Yue gets a new head. I think Hao Yue might actually be able to get all the elements.

He currently has Wind, Fire, and Light. So if we assume there are 6 more heads… The elements we do know exist thus far that Hao Yue doesn’t have a head of yet would be darkness, earth, water/ice, spatial, and lightening. So that makes 8 heads. If we assume that the last one could be aligned to the purple glow basically an element no one else but Austin Griffin can have that would be 9. I can’t think of any elements that they are currently missing in the story since they don’t seem the type to list steel as one.

          • Luke Confidential

Wood aka Plants. Remember the 4th Soldier Grade Squad’s Summoner?

          • Robin

I think you both made a good point. This reasoning for the 9 heads sounds legit and cool. I absolutely vote for it.

          • Jonathan Hurd

Not sure if Wood is actually an element. They said that the 4th soldier grades summoner has an affinity with botanical summons. Though it would be pretty cool if there is a wood element though and summon roots to attack people.

          • Luke Confidential

Part of the reason I made the connection is because of Wood as a classical Chinese Element.

  • VanillaCustardPie

    Thank you~

  • lordcattank

thank you very much for the chapter

  • Count Grey

    Thanks for the chapter 🙂

  • Captain Facts

    Rewards or punishments I wonder…

  • Captain Facts

    Rewards or punishments I wonder…

    • Robin

Why punishment? They didn’t do anything wrong.

      • Jonathan Hurd

More like rewards for them and punishment for the dumbasses that endangered the precious demon hunt squads.

        • Robin

          Oh yessssss ^.^

    • Its Mission Tower’s fault to put high level mission to the lower/general level. So, there will be no punishment in DHS side. Rewards… maybe have MORE rewards.. since they have completed much higher mission than their current rank

  • ZaX

Incredible gains. Wonder if he will raise his holy necromancer skills. Thanks for the chapter

  • SYWZ Fan

Hahahaha.. i don’t really get the preview… it says 200,000 points. Was it really 200K reward points or just only 20K? I think there was an error in there :l

    • dreamer

The reward is 200k, 20k of this chapter was from the massacred demon.
      At least I think so~

    • Daene Kendrick

the mission was bumped up to a king grade mission meaning the reward was x10 the original reward of 20k , they earned 20k just from killing demons.

      • Luke Confidential

And the 4th Soldier Grade picked up an extra 10k of demon kills.

In total this mission resulted in the acquisition of 230k Contribution Points for the participants to distribute.

        • Daene Kendrick

160k for the 21st to split and 70k for the 6th

          • Luke Confidential

Huh, you’re right. Somehow I had it in my head earlier on that it was 170/30.

Wow, the 4th are in an even better position than I had anticipated.

    • The mission when they took it have 20k rewards [Ch.215]. Now when they return to report, the mission rewards become 200k and rising the difficulty to a new level, and because of that, it make they are so mad since its a mission that they shouldn’t take in their current cultivation level.

  • Renegade

So based on future chapter.. They failed and only got 20k?

    • Luke Confidential

I’m assuming you’re talking about Toto’s preview here [spoilers are forbidden, after all.] Go read it again more carefully.

The DHS squads are pissed off that they were sent on a King Grade Mission and put into such mortal danger. It hasn’t sunk in how lucky they are to obtain that reward yet.

    • ~ we don’t know about it yet.
We can’t base ourselves out of something we don’t know yet, unfortunately ^^

      • Renegade

Now that the Two Alliance members are on it. I hope it turns around and the Tower members (Squads) have to forfeit their points to compensate. Be pretty sweet!

    • Ryan

They didn’t fail though right? He recorded what was in the cave (mostly) and that was the mission. Just to investigate. Nothing more. So they should be ok.
