Shen Yin Wang Zuo, Chapter 262

Shen Yin Wang Zuo, Chapter 262: The Stunning Maid (III)

The Demon God Emperor Fengxiu could be said to be clad in simple attire. Behind him, only four middle-aged people clad in black gowns were following him; he didn’t have any excessive guard. Of course, these were only the people that entered the palace. The amount of guards standing outside was only known to the emperor himself.

Today, the Demon God Emperor didn’t show his tyrannical strength as back at the Exorcist Mountain Pass. Only clad in a simple black gown, he didn’t even emanate his mighty aura, giving him the look of an ordinary handsome middle-aged man.

Lifting his hand, he stooped on the kneeling Moon Demon God Agares, “Worthy little brother, is there any need to be so formal between the two of us?”

Agares revealed a smile, “Relationships aside, etiquette cannot be ignored. Your Majesty, please.” Deep inside, his current thought was more like ‘If I did not put on a formal display, would you really not care about it?’ Of course, this was no more but unspoken criticism. Even with his position as the second Demon God, he wasn’t so different to any other Demon Gods in front of the Demon God Emperor. The supreme position of the Demon God Emperor wasn’t something he could lightly contest with, so he naturally didn’t show any dismissive behaviour in front of him.

The Demon God Emperor nodded, before starting to follow Agares into his palace. Right at that time, the Demon God Emperor suddenly came to a stop, looking in another direction.

This seemed like an unimportant look, but even with the Demon God Emperor’s position and cultivation, his look was filled with unconcealed disbelief.

This reaction simply astonished the Moon Demon God Agares, who immediately followed the emperor’s gaze in the same direction, and this was exactly the direction where his dearly beloved daughter Yue Ye stood.

“Your Majesty you…” Agares felt quite nervous, but was really unwilling for His Majesty to harbour any desire towards his own beloved daughter. For a long time now, although the Demon God Emperor was a very powerful existence, he was still very considerate to his subordinates, and wouldn’t do something that harmed their feelings. But on the other hand, if the Demon God Emperor had thoughts towards his daughter, how could Agares stop him?

The Demon God Emperor shook his head, “It’s nothing, let’s go.” As he was done, he mumbled to himself a few words, but with his incredible hearing, Agares faintly heard that the Demon God Emperor seemed to have said, “They look so alike.”

Agares was startled, scarcely realizing that at that time, someone else was already extremely nervous.

When the Demon God Emperor’s eyes glanced over in her direction, Yue Ye felt as if her own blood was freezing. Grasping her skirt firmly, her body was as stiff as a board, and she didn’t dare to move in the slightest, inwardly yelling madly: It’s over, everything is over…

As the involved party, she naturally felt that the Demon God Emperor’s glance wasn’t directed at her, but at Long Haochen who stood at her side.

Just at that time, when the Demon God Emperor went in, Long Haochen couldn’t help but raise his head, and with this single motion, attracted the Demon God Emperor’s attention, who glanced right at Long Haochen’s face for a very short moment.

Long Haochen felt exactly the same as Yue Ye: his brain suddenly went blank. The instant the Demon God Emperor’s look crossed with his own, he immediately felt a terrifying energy locking up on his body, isolating it completely from the outside world. That was to say, right at that moment, even if he wanted to transport himself back through the contract with Haoyue, he was unable to do so.

Long Haochen felt regret; he shouldn’t have raised his head to see the Demon God Emperor. He also believed that given the Demon God Emperor’s cultivation, he would definitely find out about the attribute of the internal spiritual energy in his body. Can it be… That I am going to die here?

However, the following turn of events was completely out of his grasp. The Demon God Emperor suddenly left with the Moon Demon God Agares, entering in the inner palace. And he didn’t made any more attention, the same went for his subordinates.

Why did he let me off? Hasn’t he discovered my light attribute? With his cultivation level? That’s impossible.

Long Haochen was filled with doubts, but at the same time was rejoicing. He narrowly resisted the urge to teleport back, and finally controlled himself. If he left like this before so many people, how could Yue Ye explain herself before her clansmen?

The Demon God Emperor finally disappeared from everyone’s line of sight, followed by the Moon Demon God, and at that time, everyone of the Moon Clan stood up. During this time, a cold little hand was stretched at the side of Long Haochen’s waist, pinching his skin and forcefully turning him around.

Long Haochen felt in pain as his body was forcefully moved, but extraordinarily didn’t show any resistance. He truly felt ashamed! If not for the fact the Demon God Emperor was absent-minded for some reason, Yue Ye and himself would have been done for.

“I’m sorry” Long Haochen lowered his voice and said this.

Yue Ye ignored him, still putting on an unsightly expression. Her lapel was already drenched in sweat, to the extent that she simply felt as though she was about to collapse after seeing her father leave, almost falling to the ground. She understood the Demon God Emperor’s tricks a lot better than Long Haochen, and was thus put at the peak of despair. But after this despair lessened, her body was filled with two completely different feelings: emptiness and an upsurge of relief.

Her tormented face was visibly abnormally pale. By chance, no one paid attention to her as everyone’s attention was still on the Demon God Emperor.

Moon Palace – main hall.

The Moon Demon God invited the Demon God Emperor to sit down.

“Your Majesty, how is it that you bothered yourself to come personally? If you called, I would have been by your side in an instant.” Agares said with a smile.

Fengxiu waved his hand, and his four subordinates as well as the Moon God Agares’ aides retreated, leaving only these two left in the main hall. From this simple detail, it could be seen how terrifying Fengxiu’s position was. Even the Moon Demon God’s clansmen didn’t dare to go against his orders.

“Now that there are no more outsiders, we brothers shouldn’t have to put on such a front. I came to look for you, first because of some important matters, and also to see you. We good brothers haven’t seen each other for quite a while, since we are usually busy with all sorts of affairs. Follow me back in a moment; how about drinking to our fill tonight? I still want to have a few cups of the good human wine your daughter Yue Ye brought back for us.”

Agares smiled, “It will be my pleasure. I haven’t been drinking at brother’s place for quite a while. You wouldn’t guess, this girl Yue Ye didn’t leave much of this wine to me, sending the lion’s share of it to your place. You don’t know how jealous I am as a father.”

Fengxiu smiled back to him, “What is there to be jealous of? If you wanted to drink, you could just come and look for me. Only third brother and you can call me boss like this, you know? Don’t tell me there could be anything in the way of the relationship between us three brothers?”

Agares sighed silently, “Third brother, this fellow, he seems to be deeply focused on some divination. I went twice to look for him, but he had kept his door locked on both occasions.”

Hearing Agares’ words, Fengxiu’s face seemed to look a bit hesitant, “This period of seclusion of third brother is indeed quite long. As our great prophet that he is, he surely ran into some inconvenience. This cannot be a good thing, I really hope he won’t be back with too many bad news.”

Agares answered with a little disapproval, “What bad news could he bring? About humans? Although they raised their strength a bit over these years, they have never dared to come out of their shell. If not for the fact that boss was making use of them, with a single action from our side, could humans really have the power to resist?”

Fengxiu nodded but still said, “Second brother, you can’t be too narrow-minded. After all, humans have already been reproducing and living in the continent for thousands of years. If we really went all out to handle them, the final result would possibly be disastrous for both sides. Although our odds of victory are higher, this frenetic situation would unavoidably arouse other parties’ attention. At that time, how would our both injured sides be able to respond? Although we have never regarded humans as important threats, we cannot act blindly without thinking. The time hasn’t come yet.”

After a short time of silence, Agares asked Fengxiu, “Boss, I have wanted to ask you for a long time, but what is this time you are waiting for? Why are we waiting to launch an all out attack against the humans? We can’t let them develop like this! We cannot look down on the human potential you know!”

Fengxiu gave him a leisured look, “The timing will depend on ourselves. I’d rather want our kin to acknowledge human’s existence, and to view them as a part of our own race. That would be the good timing to act against the Temple Alliance. What I want isn’t to destroy it, but to assimilate it.

Else, we will be left without way to grow. The human potential is something we need.”

Agares was startled, “Boss, are you saying that we should completely acknowledge and accept humans?”

Fengxiu nodded, “Humans are superior to us in many different aspects, and they have very deep roots on the continent. Last few years, each of my decrees was aiming for an assimilation of humanity. First, we’d aim for assimilating the humans in our own territory in this regard, before expanding slowly. And one day, we will make all humans become a part of our own strength. This will definitely make our demon race stronger. My aims are not limited to this world, but I’d wish to accomplish my deceased grandfather’s ambition to start a war for the conquest of other planes.”

“Second brother, how about letting your title of Demon God be passed on to Yue Ye? Letting her inherit you.” Feng Xiu suddenly remarked.

Agares’ face greatly lost color, “Boss, how can we… Our kin will definitely not accept this.”

Fengxiu indifferently replied, “As long as you have my backing, who would dare cause trouble over this? Since we are planning to thoroughly assimilate with humans, we must be the ones to take the initiative. You shouldn’t mind the fact this kid Yue Ye’s progress speed is rather slow: as long as she manages to gain the ability to succeed you, her future growth is bound to even surpass yours. This is the superiority of the human potential. ”

Thinking about this glance the Demon God Emperor gave Yue Ye, Agares couldn’t help but feel cautious. Could it be that His Majesty is planning to dominate our Moon Clan? This can’t be! With his strength, there’s no need for him to do this. Most of all, the Devil Dragon Clan has this policy of keeping their lineage pure…

A change appeared on Fengxiu’s expression as he continued, “I’m just speaking without deep intentions. I let you think about it, and I will be respecting your opinion. If you don’t want to, just let it be. Plus, you’re still young, and we shouldn’t rush this matter.”

  • Tomas Hoffman

Definitely an interesting turn of events haha, Haochen is the best waifu. :^)

  • kirindas

    Thanks for the chapter!

  • kirindas

    Thanks for the chapter!

  • Andrew L

Well we definitely learned some interesting information this chapter.

  • Andrew L

Well we definitely learned some interesting information this chapter.

  • Evilage

DGE actually said they’re so alike after seeing LHC, maybe he was talking about xingyu or LHC’s mother?
seeing DGE talk like this i can’t really see the guy as the main antagonist…
    anyways thanks for the chapter

    • Lutre

Have you seen Tengen Toppa Guren Lagan? I felt that the plot here will be similiar to this one ;p

      • Evilage

Yes i have seen that anime, i dont see that much of similarities or are say implying that just like gurem lagen the demons are protecting the humans by making themselves into the enemy?

        • Lutre

Maybe not exactly but sth like this

          • Evilage

            I doubt it
they wouldnt go for a plane conquest if they were protecting humans
it seems the DGE just wants cooperation and mixing of the two races

          • Lutre

Well, i was thinking more about stronger enemy so humans and demons will unite to defeat him

          • Robin

No, I think we can most definitely say that the demons are not protecting the humans. They fled their own world after being defeated and now built up their power base in Shengmo Dalu. The Emperor just wants to make the demon race even stronger which would be possible by integrating the humans into their culture. And then he wants to aspire the rulership over other worlds as well.

          • Ferorius

Basicaly all out plane conquest? That’s cliche…

          • Robin

            Yeah, it is.

          • Ferorius

            Yeah it is, isn’t it…

          • Jonathan Hurd

To be fair if you look at demons they do not really make sense as anything other than weapons. They can’t harvest their own food and provide for themselves. Overall they seem like beings that were specifically designed with a single goal in mind and that is fighting. Now to me the real big question that needs to be answered is just what were they designed to fight?

Also I would personally argue its about 10 times more cliche if the story just broke down into Humans good demons evil and they are this way because we said so. The way it is written here it is more like history than a classic fantasy story. Both sides have their reasons to fight. It is not good vs. evil, but more just two sides striving to survive in desperate times.

          • Robin

I agree. The best stories give fantasy stories a history on their own. And in this case a history as complex at ours at that. That’s what I enjoy while reading. ^^

  • Evilage

DGE actually said they’re so alike after seeing LHC, maybe he was talking about xingyu or LHC’s mother?
seeing DGE talk like this i can’t really see the guy as the main antagonist…
    anyways thanks for the chapter

  • setyroth

Antagonists just got 10x more interesting.

  • Zeth

    Thank you very much Totobro!

  • Enuo Akatsuki

That was a interesting talk there, principally when he mentions that he wants to assimilate humans to get stornger to go to “Other planes” So can we conclude that Austin Griffin come from other planes? Cause it seems going this way later on… Probably LHC will be part of a major role of the assimilation since he already have some roots with some demons

    • Evilage

That or my dream will come true and haochen will rule over both races as the alliance demon overlord xD

      • Jonathan Hurd

Well we do know that Austin Griffin has come from a different plane because he was summoned from the demons home world. I do wonder if Austin Griffin might of come from a third independent dimension and was sent to destroy the demons dimension. He could technically be a new kind of bio weapon sent from another dimension.

What I found interesting is how the Demon God Emperor talked about the risk of if they went all out against the humans and both sides wore themselves out there is potential for a third force to come in and take over. If you think about it that is exactly what happened with the Necromancers and the Brilliant church. Maybe the demons coming with such great timing is not as much of a coincidence as we first thought.

        • Robin

Interesting theory. And yeah, it is exactly what happened for the humans after two powerful parties destroyed each other and weakened their overall forces. Since the demons call Haoyue the heavenly calamity it is likely that they don’t think him to be a creature of their own world. It would be pretty badasss if he had been sent to their plane as a destroyer. But if that would have been the case, whoever had sent him would have had invaded their world, right? And as far as we know this has not happened yet.

          • Jonathan Hurd

If we assume for a second that Hao Yue is meant to destablize a world and was sent by a group of people then I can think of three theories to why they might have not acted yet. First it could be that Hao Yue went rogue and went out of control. Potentially he was too strong or did his job too well and they can no longer go to the world he was meant to take for them. Second theory could be that they just wanted to destroy and did not really care about moving in themselves. The third I can think of is maybe his job isn’t done yet. I mean he is admittedly still reincarnating even after he destroyed the demons world to a place where only undead could live. Maybe they are waiting for him to wipe out the undead before moving in.

Something else to consider is maybe the undead are the invaders. They don’t seem natural to the demons world and the environment seems perfectly suited for them to live in.

          • Robin

The undead might be the demons who were unable to flee. As the demons have turned humans and animals into demons upon arrival, something might have turned the remaining demons into undead. Their way of referring to Haoyue and their behavior is too similar to the demons for me to think them a new race altogether.

I agree to your theories. The third one seems most interesting. Why does he have 7 (?) rebirth circles? Is it some self-destruction function to make sure that he dies sooner or later? If so then it would make sense for his senders to wait until he at least reached the last circle to invade because then they could kill him by themselves if necessary.

      • Ferorius

        Not demon. God of Light!

  • Zero

    Thanks for the chapter! 😀

  • LHC might have looked similar to his mother! Demon God Emperor, for this reason may have a soft corner for humans!

    • Evilage

Well that might be so., so friend whats your opinion about the relationship between the DGE and haochens mother?
there are two possibilities as to which she is either the daugther of the DGE or the lover
if she is the daugther of the DGE maybe he was refering to haochens similarity to haochens grandmother?
who knows what twist will come next

      • I go for daughter! Probably because of the age issue! Demons live longer than humans and I hope MC’s mom isn’t too old when she got married!

        • Robin

She could also have been his concubine before she fled or was rescued by Haochen’s father. His reaction might be linked to his similarity to his lost lover. This would explain even better why he is lenient.

          • I think she might be a half-demon, just like Yue Yue.. and his father might be a Demon god of higher rank! This might be the reason why LHC was able to make contract with Austin Griffith!

          • Robin

I also believe that his mother is at least a half-demon just like Yue Ye. But somehow I can’t see Haochen’s mother as the daughter of the DGE.

          • Aren’t we spoiling too much?

          • Robin

We are not spoiling. We only talk about theories here. And we do this based on the information of the chapters we read so far. None of us know what his motherr really is, or about her relationship to the DGE, if there even is one. So why do you think it spoiling? 😉

          • Maybe you’re right! Anyways I’m pretty bored with the pace, I will start Panlong (Coiling Dragon) to kill time!

          • Robin

I am right. If those were spoilers, Toto would long since have removed them. Even he doesn’t know what kind of background story hides behind Haochen’s mother and hates spoilers. 😉
Well, we do all we can to make progress but it is much work. Luckily there are many interesting novels to read during the wait. Did you read Douluo Dalu?

          • I’ve just read the manhua for Doulo Dalu and BTTH! SYWZ is my first Translation! I was unsure about the quality of translations! Some Novels I read randomly were machine translated and are horrible! Toto is doing great here! Btw DD and BTTH are ongoing, but Panlong is fully translated so, I would like to give it a try! I got to know that Panlong Manhua is also popular.

          • Robin

The novel of DD is really great and Bagelson and his team do a great job as well. They translate it in good quality so it is absolutely worth a read. The story is so much better than the manhua. It is not finished yet but they steadily release 2-3 chaps per week. I highly recommend it.

          • Sure! I’ll give it a read. It’s actually my fault reading the manhua knowing it’s all half-baked stuff!

          • Robin

I read it as well but was unsatisfied, that is why I started the novel and was positively surprised. Tang San is such a cool badass and all the other characters very interesting as well.

          • Basically, it’s the same for DD, BTTH, and even SYWZ Cramming too much in a single chapter (manhua) leaves us with little of what actually happens!

          • Jonathan Hurd

To be fair DD to me does a way worse job than BTTH and SYWZ did. All of them do indeed rush points and don’t have as much time to flesh out their stories, but the glaring changes DD makes annoy me. At least BTTH and SYWZ are still the same plot just skipping stuff like training and shortening tournaments. DD makes Tang San look so much worse than the Light Novel. They also keep trying to change things to make everyone appear more likeable and severely tone down the violence. All I have to say is read the Light Novels depiction of Slaughter City and compare that to the Manhua and you will realize how cheated you were.

          • Jonathan Hurd

I suggest reading DD and BTTH’s light novels they are much better than their manhau’s for me. DD Light novel lets Tang San be way more of a bad ass than the Manhau does. As for BTTH you get a much better feel for what power level Xiao Yan actually is and they don’t drop things like that Black Ruler of his. Also the violence is a lot more ruthless and fun in the Light Novel. They let him actually kill people for once. The other thing I enjoy is Xiao Yan’s relationship with the girls is much more fleshed out and believable especially with Yun Yun.

As far as the relationship between LHC’s mom and the Demon God Emperor not really sure. Considering how they have said LHC takes after his moms in looks it is most likely that the Demon Emperor is reminded of her looking at LHC dressed like that. There sadly isn’t enough information from his reaction to really gather what kind of relationship so there is a possibility it could be familial or lost lover.

I still wonder about the fact that Xingyu has some sort of conflict between him and I think the 7th or 9th demon god and not the 1st. I also wonder how LHC’s mom can get away from the Demon God Emperor and how she met LHC’s dad. It is interesting to see that LHC’s mom has this sort of connection and past though.

          • Thank you for your suggestions! I’m eager too to findout LHC’s maternal lineage and all flashback stuff!

          • Jonathan Hurd

The thing I find most juicy right now personally is the Demon God Emperor’s worry about a third force. The way he talks and seems to be playing things there is another opponent other than the humans that has him much more worried. If we consider that aspect, some of his actions start to make a lot more sense. This would explain why they have been sending their forces against the humans like they have for so long. It was to train not just their own demons but also to help train the humans. For demons the only way to evolve has been to constantly battle and get lucky. So through constant battling they can keep testing and find those with potential while getting rid of the excess. At the same time the pressure this puts on the humans forces them to develop their potential and power or else be over run.

I am interested in why the demons apparently want access to Elux’s Tower so badly as well. At first glance the place does have countless artifacts but demons don’t seem to really use them. There is also no real reason to seek it out so hard if all they want is to use them as trade fodder for food.

In the end the biggest question to me though has got to be what is the Demon God Emperor’s final goal. What is it that he hopes to achieve by invading other dimensions. To be completely honest the demons are already having a hard enough time sustaining themselves now. He isn’t really driven by hatred in particular as far as I can see and he has access to just about anything he could desire.

Overall demons in general feel like they were designed as fighting machines. Maybe the point is that their purpose always was to invade and start conquering other worlds like they did to LHC’s. Maybe the Demon God Emperor is trying to fulfill that purpose.

          • Is that Elux’s tower so important as for the DGE to mention it? Didn’t they recieve any info as to the missing of too many fiends! so as to send a Demon God to assist them! Are the Necromancers, the third force DGE mentioned?

          • Robin

They don’t know anything about the tower. They were just searching for treasures in general. And even if they knew it wouldn’t help them, since the tower should be filled with light attribute energy. Also as I have understood the story, the necromancers died out before the demons arrived so they should have no real knowledge about them.

          • Jonathan Hurd

The thing is if they don’t know anything about the tower why is the Fiend Demon God trying to get access to it so badly and keeping it a secret from the rest? Honestly the amount of resources that he has poured into trying to conquer that cave seems pretty ridiculous in itself. One theory could potentially be that he doesn’t want to share things that were found on his land, but if that is just the case it seems strange that he be in such a rush to get what is inside the cavern that he keeps sending some of his most important and veteran forces to their deaths and trying to keep it secret.

          • Robin

As we learned there is some serious competition for survival between the demon clans. He doesn’t know what is inside (even the DGE doesn’t seem to know it) but whatever has such a powerful defense like the hissing must be pecious. And something pecious can be exchanged for food or stuff from the humans. I agree that he wants to keep his finds secret no matter the price though. Besides his greed it could be a matter of pride. Whatever costed him this many Fiends needs to be erased or it would shame his pride.

          • I’m not sure about the Necros.. They seem to have some knowledge abt the demons!

          • Robin

Do they? I can’t remember Elux mentioning the demons. He only talks about the church as an enemy. Or did I forget something?

          • I think Elux was abusing those demons with dark attribute and told LHC he was glad that he found one with light attribute and that he would be his only disciple… blah blah*

          • Robin

Abusing the demons? I don’t think so. Only his defense mechanism destroyesd everything of the dark attribute that came close. Or more precisely, it destroyes everything that was not powerful enough to withstand, including light attribute bearers as Haochen. He would also have died if he hadn’t been powerful enough and had the support of Haoyue.

          • I may have got the wrong impression then!

          • Robin

Isn’t it? The story again gains depth after revealing the entanglements the characters have with each other. I really look forward to the truth about this matter. Maybe Long Xingyu also snuck into the demon city and snatched her. ^^

          • Matt

Actually, I’ve always thought that the BTTH manhua is better than the light novel. The characters are more likable, and generally have more interesting personalities. Master (Yao Lao) in particular is a lot funnier and less generic in the manhua.

          • All manhua other than Panlong more or less are on a break! BTTH is taking too much time for a single chapter! I’ll be forgetting the plot if this continues… Maybe its better to read the Novel only!

          • Jonathan Hurd

I don’t know, I admittedly enjoy the BTTH Manhua more than I did the Combat Continents one and they didn’t make as many glaring changes to the plot in the BTTH one. My one big problem with the BTTH would be that there are these really painfully awkward attempts at levity mixed in at points. The other thing is I like the amount of detail and time the Light Novel gets to take building things up. There is an entire story arch involving dealing with Xiao Yan being hunted by a mercenary company in the Magic Beast mountain that the Manhua misses out on that helps tie things together for me personally.

As for Yao Lao in the Manhua I don’t know. I find some the things that he does really just strange. Like for instance attaching Xiao Yan to a lightening rod to learn a Dou Technique is kind of stupid.

Overall I do still read the BTTH Manhua, but the Light Novel is definetly worth the read.

          • Ferorius

I’ll tell you straight away, do not even read the Panlong manhua if you are starting the novel also, If I were you I would forget about the manhua and just read the novel as it’s way better. Also If you’re gonna read BTTH, don’t bother till they catch up to the manhua as it’s written by the same author, it fully follows the story(With some minor changes that you wont even find). And yeah DD is awesome, I really recommend it. Also, try out ST(stellar transformations), TDG(tales of demons & gods) and DE(desolate era).

          • I was pretty much convinced that reading manhua is gonna kill the actual story! I didn’t read panlong manhua yet.. maybe after I finish the Novel, I’ll give it a try… which is a long long way to go!

          • Ferorius

Not that long I finished it within a day, though without sleeping…

          • hahaha…

          • Luke Confidential

I followed the manhua and enjoyed it for what it was… and then I read the Novel and no longer see any point in reading the manhua.

    Thanks for the interesting chapter

thank you very much for the chapter

  • Dain

    Oh SNAP~~~

    What a chapter LOLOLOLOLOL :3

    A reconciliation foreshadowing?

    An interdimensional war?

    DemonGodEmperor x LHC x Caier…?!?!

  • VanillaCustardPie

    Thank you~

  • agila0212

Thank you for the new chapter 🙂

  • gundam_man

ho things seem to be more complicated then they appear to be, interesting

  • Koon Agnis

I knew long hao chens mother was a demon!!! He’s a half breed!! That’s why he’s so powerful!

    • Robin

Or she was a half herself and he is a quarter. But since Yue Ye’s mother is a human and she told haochen that the DGE has many humans in his harem as well, she could also be a human. But I don’t think this last option likely because it would be too simple.

      • Ferorius

Demon? More like an elf, the high one kind(would’ve written angel, but after CD it’s like they are just warmachines in my mind…).

        • Luke Confidential

Read Douluo Dalu up to the most recently translated chapters as of the time of this comment.

      • Matt

I don’t see LHC being half demon, his light attribute is too strong. Maybe he’s a quarter demon, but if his mother were a full-blooded demon you’d expect him to have a darkness attribute.

  • Koon Agnis

I knew long hao chens mother was a demon!!! He’s a half breed!! That’s why he’s so powerful!

  • Matt

I’m actually starting to like the DGE now, he’s an interesting character.

  • Ferorius

And the time for my own comment here has come!(Only replied till now xD)
First of all, thanks for the chapter!

    And now to my mindstorm…

We know that Elves apparently existed in this universe, so what could it mean for Hao Chen? Might be that the combination of his father’s and mother’s DNA unlocked somekind of Elven Genome in his blood, which led to the appearance of his with that crazy talent? And because Elves for some strange reason really look alike, more so the relatives, could’ve made DGE remember some Elf woman/male he knew, who could actualy be related to Hao Chen in some, only author knows, twisted way…

    • Robin

The only problem with this seems to be that the elven race vanished even before the demons arrived. I think it was explained somewhere in this order. True there could be some elves left in hiding, but how likely is it that the DGE caught an elven woman, which was snatched and then gave birth to Haochen? It is a tempting theory which would explain his beauty, his light affinity as well as his attachment to his elven sword and the light fairy. But I am not sure how likely it is…

      By the way, congrats. 😉

      • Ferorius

If they dissapeared, where could’ve they dissapeared to? They might’ve been moved to different planes, died or even sent into the future. It’s a fantasy setting so everything’s possible… But I still vote for the other plane transfer.
As for genomes, they could be in that locked state for millions of years, modern science already found them centuries ago, if I remember right(not a fan of biology and it’s history).
And that the Elves are basically immortal unless they die of unnatural causes…

        And thanks btw!

        • Robin

@ the P.S: okay, I admit my thought was a more direct relationship. Such a distant one is also possible, but I guess more interesting are his close family members. Elves may be the ancestors of all humans as far as we know. Therefore, it IS possible that his special physique stems from a genetic anomaly, but it would be a way too simple and plain explanation considering all the possibilities.

  • shoe

    thanks for the chapter
im pretty sure long hao chen’s mother is part elf an his father part demon “dragon”

    • Robin

The name Long surely would fit your theory. ^.^

  • dreamer

    Thanks for the chapter.

Now I understand what DGE mean when he said that he found the second candidate for his successor when visit exorcist mountain past. He was from the very beginning want human to assimilate.

Feels like the ending will be a peaceful one.

  • siva

Am I the only one thinks that there’s a connection between anan(7th demon god) and his mother and the reason she left his father saying she betrayed him or something at the beginning .. (during the confrontation between lhc and his father).. similarly dge can’t hav many children coz of the demon or dragon lineage or something .. he already has a daughter we saw with yue ye right?

    • Robin

We don’t know if she is his daughter, if I remember correctly. The girl with Yue Ye is part of the black dragon lineage, but not necessarily the DGE’s daughter, as there are still many other members of this demon clan.

There definitely is a history between Xingyu and Anan. And it could be related to the whole matter with Bai Yue. I just can’t see the clear picture so far.

      • Jonathan Hurd

Yeah there are no assurances that the girl following Yue Ye is the DGE’s child. She is however a daughter of the black dragons who act as the DGE’s personal forces and are some of the strongest demons. That is why she has such high status. The thing to remember though is that the DGE is now around 7 thousand years old. I believe they also said that the Black Dragons can only have a child every thousand years or so. That could mean that he has multiple children even if the conception rate is terrible.

I think there is a chance that the DGE does indeed have a child from something Yue Ye has said before. She mentioned after LHC left the caravan that there have only been two males that met her standards for marriage. The DGE’s heir and LHC. That might mean that the DGE has a son.

The relationship between Xingyu and Anan might be separate from Bai Yue. I would argue this because of the way Grandpa Yang was talking to Grandpa Han. Grandpa Han asked why Xingyu had to fight Anan while leaving LHC behind and Grandpa Yang said that once you reach 9th step as a knight you have certain responsibilities. It seems to me that Xingyu might have the job of keeping Anan in check directly and that relates to why it took Xingyu so long to search for Bai Yue.

To me it seems like there is a decent chance that if Bai Yue is related to demons she could be from the moon clan. A easy way to hide her name would be if she changed from Yue Bai to Bai Yue. Also considering her looks and the fact that the moon clan enjoys speaking the human language it seems like a possibility.

        • Robin

There seems to be several children from the DGE. Looking at it closely, it is almost impossible for him not having some children with such a big harem, even if his reproduction rate is not that high. 😉

I am aslo not sure if Anan is really involved in Bai Yue’s matter. It is possible that they simply are enemies, or, that Xingyu is really tasked to keep him in check. Who knows, maybe they share a similar relationship as the Demon God Slayers and the DGE?

Yeah, the similarity of the name also struck me when I was recently reminded of how she is called. Yue Bai could have been her birth name. Wouldn’t it be really funny if it turned out that Haochen and Yue Ye are related? XD

  • Luke Confidential

I made this theory in direct response to someone below, but I’m posting it as an independent comment because that seems more likely to generate greater discussion.

Remember how LHC’s mother confessed to Long Xinyu about having betrayed him?

Her betrayal of him was WITH the DGE, and LHC’s embryo was contaminated by the sperm of the DGE.

Long Haochen is the son of BOTH the Demon God Emperor AND He Who Sits Upon the Divine Throne of Doom and Slaughter.

    • Jonathan Hurd

I feel like the betrayal might have been her running away from LHC’s father and not realizing she was pregnant with his child. It would be interesting if LHC had that complex kind of Lineage though and I won’t say its completely impossible, but seems a little strange to be able to ferment the same egg with two different sperm from two different people. Seems a little easier to say that she is/was a member of the black dragons or the DGE’s concubine and fell for Xingyu.

      • Luke Confidential

A: How would that be a betrayal of Xinyu?

B: Since when has simplicity EVER been a serious consideration for this author?

        • Jonathan Hurd

To be fair running away from him pregnant with his son and not telling him where she was going. Then after finding out she is pregnant not seeking him out and informing him for over 10 years. That seems like a pretty big betrayal to me to be searching out for your long lost wife and then find out you have a son to boot.

I do agree that this author likes to make stories with especially complex family situations, but not really sure how that kind of impregnation works…

          • Luke Confidential

RE: A- OH, Now I see what you were saying. Somehow I misread the first part to be saying she had run away from the DGE WITH Long Xinyu.

          • Robin

Strange discussions we have here, way going into biology. So let’s keep clear about what we know so far:
Bai Yue (Haochen’s mother for all that forget her name like me) betrayed Long Xingyu in a way we don’t know anything about so far. She left him and hid for ten years, in the meanwhile giving birth to Haochen.
After ten years Xingyu finds her and his son and forgives her, saying that it was not her fault. He definitely recognizes Haochen as his son and takes his mother away to stay at his side after training Haochen.
The DGE recognizes A possible successor while scanning the Exorcist Mountain Pass. It is still unclear who he refered to. Haochen or Haoyue are possible but Haochen is a little more likely.
The DGE has a soft spot for humans. He sees the disguised Haochen and recognizes a similarity of looks to another person. It is still unclear who Haochen resembles, though the likeness to his mother is a possible thought.

          • Jonathan Hurd

If I remember correctly LHC’s mother spent the majority of the 10 years she was in hiding at that small village in human territory raising LHC.

Personally I am not a hundred percent sure how the attributes inheritance thing works still. From what some of the story has said part of it seems to be inherited from the parents. Now what kind of attribute someone who has one parent with light and one parent with dark attribute will be seems pretty up in the air to me. The only half demon we do know of thus far is Yue Ye so it seems a little early to just assume that any children of demons have to be darkness if paired with a human.

As far as the Demon God Emperor’s personality I’m still trying to feel it out a little bit. The way the Moon Demon God treats the Emperor and the way the Emperor expresses himself seem somewhat contradicting. The Emperor seems more laid back and wants to be less formal while the Moon Demon God is afraid of that. This might just spawn from the sheer power difference between the two and the Moon Demon Gods awareness of this.

I do completely agree with the idea that the Demon God Emperor does not seem the type to want to abuse his power to force a woman to be with him. He obviously has enough power to do so if he wants to, but as the Demon God Slayers said he is a person with a certain amount of pride and I think that forcing a woman to stay by his side would severely hurt that pride. Also if he truly cared about the woman I don’t think he could force her to stay and be happy with himself from doing so.

          • Robin

How the inheriting of attributes works is really still very nebulous. But we can tell from Yue Ye’s reaction to the light element spells Haochen uses, that at least she has inherited the darkness attribute and is allergic of the light element. I would say it is impossible for Haochen to be like her and possess such a strong light attribute without suffering and that is definitely not the case.
Still, there might be a drop of darkness imbedded, because not only Haoyue but also the necromancer Elux felt drawn to him.

          • Luke Confidential

He didn’t force her. If he had truly forced her then Bai Yue would have made no betrayal at all.

I suspect what happened was something along the lines of Xinyu was damaged on the field of battle alongside Bai Yue whom the DGE had expressed an interest.

She offered herself to him freely in exchange for Long Xinyu’s life. DGE knows he can pull the trigger any time, so he accepts the deal and withdraws with his new willing harem member.

How she ends up in that little village raising LHC I do not know. Perhaps she was able to sense that he had the Light Attribute and found an opportunity to flee. She couldn’t return to her husband because if DGE found them together he’d kill him because she broke their deal.

          • Jonathan Hurd

The potential story to me that I think might have happened was Xingyu ended up fighting Anan and was heavily injured by him in the middle of demon territory. LHC’s mother found him like that and nursed him back to health and fell in love. She was going to be offered as a wife or had caught the eye of the Demon God Emperor, but her heart already belonged to Xingyu so she ran to the human realm to hide.

          • Luke Confidential

That doesn’t explain her betrayal of Xingyu. That’s her betraying the Demons, not Xingyu.

          • Jonathan Hurd

Still feel the betrayal is her not seeking him after she realized she was pregnant with LHC. The reason she didn’t seek him out because she was worried of attracting attention and having the Demon God Emperor coming to find her.

          • Luke Confidential

I might be mis-remembering here, but as I recall she said she did NOT come to him BECAUSE of her guilt over her betrayal. Rather than not coming to find him being the betrayal.

          • Jonathan Hurd

I went back and read that chapter and what I found was….

“Bai Yue gently caressed her son’s head, unable to stop her tears, “Sorry, Chen Chen. In the past, you mother didn’t say anything to you regarding this matter. Ten years ago, a very painful thing happened to your mother and she didn’t know at all how to face your father, so she had to leave her native place and come here. At that moment, I discovered that I was already pregnant with you. Don’t blame your father, everything is my fault. He had to painstakingly look for us for nine years. If you have to hate someone, hate me.””

There might be a quote that talks of her betraying him which I kind of remember too, but I have to search more for it. From just this quote though it could be that the painful thing she speaks of is becoming the target of the DGE’s affections and being pressured to become his concubine.

          • Luke Confidential

Huh… she says she left her native place.

This lends a bit more plausibility to the claims that she is demon or half-demon raised by demons.

Of course I could jut be reading too much into it and she’s simply saying she left her hometown.

          • Jonathan Hurd

She could have been born as a human in demon land that doesn’t seem too impossible especially with how many humans they have. Letting the humans reproduce would lead to more work force so seems like a pretty good idea.

Oh. I did not see that coming.

  • Jonathan Hurd

So we got some fun information from this chapter. So apparently Demon God Pillars can be passed onto none demons it is just that they don’t want to. So this means that the Demon God Emperor wanting to pass his pillar to someone in Exorcist Pass doesn’t necessarily require them having demon heritage. Though it does bring up the question who the DGE wants taking his job if he can choose anyone among the humans and why.

Also be hilarious if Yue Ye does become a Demon God and still owes LHC.

    • Luke Confidential

Yue Ye has demon blood- Demon God Blood at that. It’s just impure.

      • Jonathan Hurd

True…. So we do know at least that human blood does not simply reject it. I admit it might be jumping the gun to assume they don’t need demon blood.

  • ZaX

Wow the demon god emperors motives are so ambitious. Thanks for the chapter

  • Red_Autumn

I finally got my account back… But reading all these theories about Hao Chen is very interesting, but I don’t think was born a half or a quarter of any demon race. Now I’ve haven’t read toto’s translations of these chapters ( which are great btw :)) from the very beginning but the manga version first so the things about his childhood that have been translated I just missed out.
What my opinion is that this relates all back to Hao Yue’s blood since they have blood contract together. For what I know LHC has always been human since his birth to me. So I believe having the blood of Hao Yue is what attracts the DGE so much. However I don’t completely disregard the fact that Bai Yue could have been part of the DGE’s harem group of females.

    • Robin

I can only say that you missed a lot when you only read the manhua so far. The novel has so much more to offer than that. I would never want to miss all the cute scenes with Haochen and Cai’er that are simply nonexistant in the manhua. Their story is so much richer here and this is only an example. 😉

True, Haochen has the blood of the transformed Haoyue in his veins, but I am not sure if this suffices, especially since he was already converted when he gave it to Haochen. But isn’t is fun that Hao Yue and Bai Yue share similar names? I just noticed when you spelled Hao Yue in two words. Maybe Haochen was influenced not only by the city he lived in, but also by his mother’s name when he named his companion. A mix between his name and the name of his mother. ^^

      • Red_Autumn

Well Robin you are right about how the manhua doesn’t capture the relationship between LHC Cai’er, but I didn’t miss out on it here (toto’ website). I’ve been reading this since the beginning of the demon slaying challenge or positions. But I see why you say my point is invalid, but how can LHC have such a high affinity if he part demon from birth. Demon can’t have any affinity to the light element well as far as we know.

Besides the possibility of August Griffon 😏

        • Robin

It sounded like you started reading later than that. The beginning is indeed prety similar to the manhua and only starts to differ around that time. ^.^

This is exactly the core of the debate. As I said somewhere below, he can’t be a half-demon or more because even Yue Ye can’t stand his light attribute spells. If we generalize this aspect on all demon-halves, him being one is naught. He could probably be a quarter but even then it would be a problematic mix. Although, it would explain how it is possible for a Scion of Light to exist for the first time in human history. His demonic heritage, if purified in his body, could strengthen him considerably. This conclusion would mean that his mother is a half-demon herself. Her being one would match her special beauty and why she is frail lifing in in the territory of the Alliance, surrounded by so much light element.

          • Schattenbach

Maybe his sacred awakening was what originally granted him his light attribute and his personality that is so much in line with the light element (or what it is supposed to be according to his view of that matter) actually was the reason as to why he managed to sufficently adapt so well to it. If I remember right, then his interal spiritual energy value is something he was born with (just like everyone else, even those without any noteworthy elemental affinity) … so his sacred awakening overriding or supplementing his darkness elemental affinity isn’t as unreasonable as it seems (especially when taking his personality into account that doesn’t look like it would reject the light element or be otherwise incompatible with it).

He’s been living somewhere within the border area so as long as the light element isn’t as thick as within the Moon Demon God’s Palace or some other place with comparable density of something of opposite elemental affinity to his, living his live normally shouldn’t have been as much of an issue (compared to his mother that actually might’ve been a full-blooded high-level demon … maybe the daughter or wife-to-be of that 4th ranked? loner demon god).

          • Jonathan Hurd

The big thing for me is I don’t think we can just assume that half demons have to be darkness attribute since the only example we currently know about is Yue Ye. The problem as far as I see it is that we still lack a great deal of information about the working of elemental affinities. We do know there exist people with Dual Elements and even demons who work along those lines. One possible theory to what kind of element you get could be argued it depends which parent was stronger. That might be why Yue Ye ended up with darkness element is that her mom is a normal human and her father is a demon god so his darkness attribute is just way more concentrated. We could then argue that since Xingyu is a 9th step Divine Knight with about 83 Innate Spiritual Energy his elemental Affinity was stronger than LHC’s mother. A possible theory from this then is that you can get a dual attribute if your parents have similar or equal strength. This of course is just an idea I am kind of stealing from how Combat Continent passes spirits down blood lines.

The way I kind of interpret the light stone Xingyu used to awaken LHC is that it basically put purified Light essence into him and then depending on how high his affinity is with it his body holds onto a certain amount of that light essence making it a part of itself. I think if LHC truly had darkness attribute affinity I am afraid that the sheer amount of light essence would have torn him to pieces. The way the story seems to treat Darkness and Light’s relationship is mutually constraining against one another. Now that is not to say someones body could not contain both, just look at Hao Yue for something close to that. The thing I would say is Hao Yue actually shows us what happens when that sheer amount of purified Light Essence is poured into someone of Darkness Attribute. I don’t think Light and Darkness can coexist in the same body like that. It seems they will fight for dominance and eventually one will push the other out it seems or the subject will die in the process.

On a slight side note, when it comes down to the Demon God Emperor stating his potential successor is inside the Exorcist Mountain Pass I am still not completely convinced it is LHC personally. The problem with LHC being the one for me is that Hao Yue was completely using LHC’s energy to hide himself. Therefore it should appear like there are two LHC’s. To me then if LHC is the target that means there are two potential targets. My money is still closer to Cai’er. She does have the Spiritual Stove of Samsara and we still don’t actually know what her elemental affinity is.

          • Schattenbach

There’s also the possibility of characters (for whatever reason) ending up without any particular elemental affinity.

            After
all, a certain priest got his elemental affinity from his mother …
and the light element most certainly isn’t the dfault elemental affinity
of the human race (if they have any to begin with).

          • Jonathan Hurd

From what I remember when LHC’s team was discussing their backgrounds Wang Yuanyuan commented to Yin Er about summoners being elementless or at least close to it. I think that is what might allow them to summon a variety of different beasts. So it does seem like there are people who do not have an element and I think that might be the requirement for being a summoner. I am not sure if they can only have that because they inherit it from their parents as well though since the only summoner who we know the parents of is Yin Er and both her parents are summoners too.

As for humans natural elements we have seen examples of people with just about everything. Wang Yuanyuan and the 4th Soldier squads mage has spatial element. Cai’ers mom is water element. Tons of light element people. Lin Xin has fire. We can even be sure that humans have had the darkness attribute otherwise Elux would not have talked about Darkness attribute Necromancers existing.

          • Schattenbach

With both parents possibly being considerably powerful mid or high tier powerhouses of the ninth step with both of them possibly possessing opposite elemental affinity, things might actually cancel each other out and he might’ve ended up with some other or something akin to a neutral elemental affinity. After all, I don’t think that the human cocubines of demon gods are nearly as powerful as them (so somewhere around the eight or ninth step) as such powerful human powerhouses have become considerably rare (what with less than twenty humans of the ninth step fighting on the side of humanity).

      • Evilage

I noticed the name bit too, i never started it since probably chineses language should have many characters with the same pronounciation or something?

        • Robin

Hard to say without knowing the signs and there respective meaning. Maybe we should ask Toto about it. ^^

          • Jonathan Hurd

I get the feeling that knowing LHC’s personality there is a high chance that the Yue in Hao Yue’s name is related to Bai Yue for his mom. Especially since when he was naming Hao Yue he stated that Hao Yue was going to be family from now on.

          • Robin

And he stated that he would follow him in name. Since he spent more of his life with his mother it is not unlikely that he feels closer to her familywise. I also think that it is the same Yue.

          • Jonathan Hurd

Yeah I think he respects his father more, but if we’re talking about love his mother is probably at the top.

          • Robin

Without doubt. As you said, his father is the role model for his future aspirations but his mother is the one who gave him love and care. I guess she is his emotional support and influenced him most in this regard. Hao Yue is his first addition to the family. It figures that he thinks of her while naming him.

Am I the only one that wants happiness for Fengxiu as well? Something tells me he’s muy macho and handsome. Kyaa! What is it with me and bad guys?!? It’s like a drug or something…sigh….if only LHC had a twin sister….

  • That little glance and comment was so obvious, this is the guy LHC’s dad wants to kill, because of something that happened between LHC’s mom and him in the past.

I just hope it really isn’t messed up, and honestly these demons are getting more and more annoying, I swear this is the prelude to Martial God Space and the great hatred between humans and devil race.

He says he want’s the human race and the devil’s to get along, but he essentially just wants to control them like slaves, he just uses sugar coated words.

  • Blackfuht

holy crap LHC is half demon…. or his mother was one of his concubines. Holy shit.
