Shen Yin Wang Zuo, Chapter 258

Shen Yin Wang Zuo, Chapter 258: Modu Core City (II)

Lin Xin stared at him indecisively before finally stamping his feet on the ground, “… Okay, then I’ll tell you. Your sis took advantage of me and forcefully kissed me!”

“WHAAT!” Long Haochen never expected this, and this cry of surprise was so loud that it caused everyone to look over in alarm.

“Boss, keep quiet, or else, how do you expect me to have any shame left ?” Lin Xin said awkwardly, his face turning flaming red.

Long Haochen’s expression became somewhat unsightly, “Lin Xin, I don’t care about your narcissism, but how can you be narcissistic enough to claim something like that? How could my sis force a kiss on you? Don’t forget she’s a girl, and you’re slandering someone’s purity right now. ”

“I… I… I……” Lin Xin looked torn between laughter and tears, “Boss, how could I try to fool you? If not for you, I wouldn’t even be in this Demon Hunt Squad! Let me explain everything to you.”

He really couldn’t hide it anymore, and approached Long Haochen’s ear, telling him about the misunderstanding that happened between Li Xin and himself, how she came to look for him, and told him about everything that happened between the two of them.

Having heard his story, Long Haochen’s became stone-faced. Looking at Li Xin who was painstakingly focusing on training, he was simply speechless.

What’s this?! Sis, you’re too intrepid this time!

For fear that Long Haochen wouldn’t believe him, he imitated Li Xin’s motion, turning his hand over to cover his head along with Long Haochen’s ear, “Boss, you see, when Miss Xin did this, she had a hand holding the back of my head, that and don’t forget she’s a knight! I’m just a mage, even if I wanted to fight back, I couldn’t do anything more than struggle! And then…”

Looking at his grieved face, Long Haochen unhappily retorted back, “You’re the one taking advantage here! My sis is a girl you know, and it was her first kiss. How can you be unsatisfied after taking such great advantage?!”

Lin Xin said in a low voice, “Boss, I’m not unsatisfied or anything! It’s just that I’m not taking advantage at all! That was also my first kiss you know!”

“Eh?” Long Haochen gave him an unconvinced look, “Could you possibly still have something such as a first kiss? What about the young lady that seemed ready to eat you at the auction house? one can pretty much call you a womanizer with certainty, how could it be your first kiss! I wouldn’t be even surprised to hear that you’ve had ten thousand before.”

Lin Xin cried out in disatisfaction, “Boss, I’m telling the truth! I am at most a bit narcissistic, but I am pure to the core. Under grandfather’s tight watch, if I really dared to tangle with a girl, he would definitely not let me off. And you know, I am just a few years older than you, and I’m not even twenty now. I’m not so precocious you know! If I was doing dirty things to girls every day, how could I become such an outstanding alchemist!?”

Long Haochen’s expression turned into extreme surprise, and a long time later, he tried asking, “What do you plan on doing? Treat it as though nothing happened?”

Lin Xin unhappily spoke back, “This was my first kiss, my very first time! How can I treat it as though it didn’t happen? Plus that it has been taken like that. I… I…”

Long Haochen kneaded his head and responded, “It’s enough, go back to making your pills. There’s nothing I can do about this. Think of something by yourself. There’s just one thing I demand of you: you are not permitted to hurt my sis. Otherwise, I really won’t let you off.”

Lin Xin lightly nodded, suddenly lowering his voice, “Actually, I kind of prefer older girls. And Miss Xin is quite pretty. Boss, tell me, if I went after your big sister Xin’er, would I have a chance?”

“Don’t ask me that, I don’t really know either. But know that if you try, you may have a chance, but you won’t have any if you don’t. If you are really determined, just go for it. I’ll be heading to the Moon Clan’s place to look for a way out for us. Think well before you act.”

“Mh.” Lin Xin continued speaking, “I’ve been thinking about something these days. I don’t know why, but ever since this kiss, I suddenly realized that Miss Xin is becoming prettier and prettier in my eyes. I am thinking of going after her, but I just don’t really know how I should. I’ve no experience on this, boss, can’t you teach me?”

Long Haochen showed an unhappy reaction, “How could I teach you? Seeing that you don’t have any firsthand experience, don’t tell me you think I have?”

Lin Xin didn’t have any hesitation to respond, “Of course you have some, just how old is Cai’er! Since you got hold of her, how can you say you have no experience?”

“Just get lost!” Kicking Lin Xin that carried a malicious smile, Long Haochen turned towards Cai’er without paying any further attention to him.

Along with the passage of time, Long Haochen understood Lin Xin’s characters gradually more and more. Be it in terms of looks, natural disposition, ability or background, he was completely above Li Xin. If he was really sincere, this wouldn’t be something bad. But everything would depend on fate, and he didn’t plan on intervening in this. He believed that his own big sister’s judgment would be enough for her to make her own decision.

From the west, the night slowly engulfed the earth, and Long Haochen noiselessly left the ravine, heading down.

The Desolate Hissing Cavern in itself was located in the Central Province of the demon territory, and its location was marked long ago on his map. After passing from the side of the mountain range, he rushed to the Central Province.

Along with the increase of his cultivation, Long Haochen’s ability was boosted as a whole. Although he wasn’t riding Haoyue, when running at full strength, he was fast enough to match a speeding horse in the wilderness.

The current him had already put on the Demonic Eyes of the Moon Clan as well as the clothes given to him by Yue Ye, and made use of the darkness of the night to speed towards his destination while staying low-key.

The night sky was beautiful, bathed in resplendent starlight, with a half-moon spreading its hazy moonlight. This half-moon was partly hidden behind clouds, spreading a soft luster.

Although Long Haochen left, Cai’er still remained in his heart. This time, he gave Haoyue an order, that no matter what, he was not to take even half a step away from Cai’er. In case something happened, he would immediately recall Long Haochen to Cai’er’s side. He would definitely not permit anyone to injure his Cai’er again.

This quicktrip didn’t feel lonely for Long Haochen. Thinking about the whole process of the mission, he summed up the wins and the losses in his head.

Without a doubt, this mission was out of his capabilities from the very beginning. They had run into trouble right after trying to enter through the Freelance Merchants. A series of battles had come one after another. But as a whole, they were still fortunate that at least no one died from all these misadventures.

Difficult battles would polish one’s willpower and ability. Long Haochen believed that as long as they could make it back alive from this trip, both the 21st general squad and the 4th soldier squad would make great progress.

Furthermore, this time’s rewards were plentiful. Having killed so many demon powerhouses, they could already figure out through simple calculations that the contribution points their 21st Demon Hunt Squad obtained through killing demons already exceeded 10,000, though they had yet to determine the total amount. But still, 10,000 was the most conservative estimate.

The stronger they were, the more they had to invest themselves in the team. Long Haochen and Cai’er were the typical examples of this. Cai’er’s case didn’t even need to be recalled: with her strength merely at the fifth step, she had beaten a Fiend Lord of the seventh step in a one on one battle, letting Long Haochen witness the absurd power of the Spiritual Stove of Samsara. Long Haochen had also portrayed sufficient strength as a leader. Be it as a commander or as the central pillar of his team, he was already close to perfection. And during this mission, he was also the one who reaped the most gains.

During the past days of rest, Long Haochen made use of the Spiritual Energy Examination Gem to check his internal spiritual energy, and it turned out that he was currently an Earth Knight of the ninth rank, reaching a spiritual energy of above 3,700. The Saint Spiritual Stove was also distinctly only a single step away from evolving once again, plus he had the Light Elemental Fairy Yating as well as the Pendant of Eternal Melody which he didn’t know the rank of. Long Haochen was certain that as long as he was given a steady environnement, he would at most need two months to reach and break through the bottleneck of the Radiant Knight’s rank.

In fact, when taking everything into account, less than half a year had passed since he broke through to the fifth step. Even Long Haochen himself found his cultivating speed to be quite terrifying.

And this was not his greatest harvest, that would be the Tower of Eternal Rest. Although he didn’t know what this tower would bring him, he was sure that this fantastic tower of mysteries was formidable enough to compare with a divine artifact.

He had to make it back alive no matter what! Long Haochen unconsciously clenched his fists. As long as he came back alive, he would be sure to possess the flight ability by the next time they would enter in the demon territory.

Roughly two hundred kilometers separated the Desolate Hissing Cavern from his current location. Considering his current speed, at sunrise of that day, he would already have reached his destination. The Central Province and its vast plains englobed a tenth of the whole demon territory, making it the biggest of the twenty-four provinces. The demons’ capital city was located in the core area of this Central Province. Though, it wasn’t called a demon capital, but rather a core city, in the meaning of being the core for the Demon Gods. This ‘Modu City’ used to be a huge imperial capital, before being seized and transformed by demons who changed it to this shape over several thousands years.

This Modu Core City was enormous, to the extent that no city in the Alliance was able to compare with it. Its size could be said to be twenty times that of the Exorcist City, following a square-shaped architecture. Within it, the Demon Emperor Palace was situated right at the center of Core City, acting as the central building of the city. The first ranked Demon God Pillar, belonging to the Demon God Emperor Fengxiu, was located in this Demon Emperor Palace.

The Demon Emperor Palace aside, four other palaces were situated at the four corners of the Modu Core City, belonging to the second, third, fourth and fifth Demon Gods. Their Demon God Pillars located inside of their respective palaces, they were dwelling in these places, making the importance of this city to the demon race clearly visible.

At the time this terrifying city appeared in Long Haochen’s sight, the day had already begun, but because this enormous city was completely pitch-black, he was unable to discern any traces of dawn’s daylight.

    Thank you!

  • Ragnarok

    Thanks for the chapter!

  • Evilage

    A 14 year old dual(attack & defense) knight of the 6th step…
    wow, talk about op
at this rate who knows? He might even reach the same stregth as the demon lord with 1,000,000 spiritual energy or above
oh and thanks for the chapter totobro & sponsors
i didnt expect haochen to easily accept lin xin but now that he pointed out those points i guess he might as well

    • Luke Confidential

Yeah, at times it seems like this story is being set up for LHC to Solo the Demon God Emperor while Cai-Er stealthily destroys his Demon God Pillar.

      • Robin

And Haoyue keeps him busy? So from dragon to dragon? Would be nice as well. I am only glad that the novel is already finished and there is no danger of an unfinished story. And since Toto is fortunately super motivated we can trust to read it sooner or later.

        • Evilage

i still believe that its haochen and that he has demon lord blood inside him somehow making him a successor, it would be awesome if the story ends with him becoming the demon lord and ending up ruling over both humans and demons(this probably wont happen but one can dream right?)
if haochen does really have demon blood inside him its really ironic how a half or quarter demon becomes the scion of light

          • Robin

Yes, it would be really interesting how that worked out. But maybe his mother’s element was similarily changed by Xingyu as Haoyue’s? Not really likely but possible. Then it could work out.
I think that he is the successor as well. But I doubt that he will succeed the DGE. Although I can’t see all the demon culture simply vanishing. There are indeed cultivated demons who live in cities and have built up a society. They are intruders and not really nice towards humans or their weaker kind, but they still are not the dumb animals we first were led to believe they are. Remember the first demons Haochen encountered? Of course they were at the bottom of the food chain but still, we got the impression the demons were all dumb and strong and mostly dangerous due to their strength, numbers and fierceness. But now we learn about the complex structure behind them. And that the real danger comes from their powerful AND intelligent leaders. I don’t believe that it is possible to solve the conflict by simply destroying all that. And Haochen will surely play an important role in the context of the solution, no matter how it will turn out.

          • Jonathan Hurd

Well first off I think enough time has passed that LHC is potentially 15 now. Still an amazing achievement just think enough time has elapsed since last we heard him being 14.

I honestly can’t imagine LHC lording himself over anyone, lol. My personal guess is still that LHC works with Hao Yue to help heal/restore Austin Griffins/the demons home world. Then he might with the help of Yue Ye get the demons to return where they came from now that it is habitable.

The only real problem for a coexistence between demons and humans I can see right now is Demons inability to be self sustaining. They need the humans ability to harvest food for the demons to live. So if they don’t take it with force they are in a completely dependent state. The problem I see is that all the demons can really trade for the food is war potential items. If there is no war there isn’t really much the humans need in return.

What I enjoy about the demons and many enemies in this authors works is he steers clear of being completely black and white. While the opponents are often arrogant or domineering they are still very relatable and you can understand their motives. This was kind of first glimpsed when you saw the invading Werewolfs defeated by Xingyu and how those Werewolfs stare death in the face and reply with almost religious fanaticism and faith that their Demon Gods will win. This was also shown when LHC and crew faced off against their first Dark Green Dual Bladed demon during the DHS preselection who actually talked and was enraged at LHC killing his troops. It has been very well established that the demons are not stupid in any sense of the word. They are more like an opposing country of humans. They have their reasons and beliefs for everything they are doing. You still want to root for LHC, but at the same time you realize the situation is much more complex than demons bad kill all demons.

          • Robin

I completely forgot the green guy talking. 😉
But yeah, I vaguely remember now. True, especially after getting a close in to the demon armies camp and getting to know more about the DGs, DGE and now Yue Ye as the daughter of a DG who is surprisingly neutral. The construct is really interesting and artfully done.

          • Jonathan Hurd

I have to say I like stories like this a lot more than the blatant here are the good guys and here are the bad guys ones. I also like how even the demon attacks against the Assassin temples home has a serious purpose. The idea being that the demons reproduce too fast and need more food. Add in that the easiest way to evolve is to fight. So they solve all their problems by just sending their troops in suicidal waves. They can drag back humans and food to help with the food shortage. They can separate the wheat from the chaff by the constant fighting, and they can even lower their population since it will just spike again soon anyways. It seems really callous at first until you realize that its either fight like this or have the demons starve to death.

The demons motives for throwing themselves into the fray becomes much more understandable then. What I find interesting is that from how the Demon God Emperor has acted and how the demons attack I don’t think they are actually seriously trying to destroy the humans or even hold any real hatred for humans. It feels more like they honestly desperately need the humans to survive. Also from how captured humans are cherished and given high positions in the army since they can harvest food it shows the demons aren’t really in it for any particular hatred. Without humans their chances at food is greatly diminished. Also without humans they would just end up fighting one another. Instead of infighting it is much easier to control your own troops with a enemy to unify against. If everyone was faced with the idea of starvation I dare say there is a high chance they would even try to bite the Demon God Emperor if their options are starvation or attack. The only thing the demons seem to be truly worried about is the humans unknowingly bringing Austin Griffin into this world. That would explain the hunt for Summoners with a body of chaos and the desperate search for Hao Yue.

          • Robin

I agree with all of this. And it is the same for both sides. They are united because there is a common enemy. Before the demons arrived the human side had serious infighting as we know now, between the Church and the Necromancers. Now they are in a position where they can’t do that and survive so there is freedom within the human fraction. And they wouldn’t have reached those hights of development and strength without the constant need to improve. Analyzed from this point of view they gained a lot while fighting as well.
I agree as well on the position of the DGE and the higher demons. There are people who can keep him in check but only if they are sneeky enough to get close or he as careless/willing to meet them face on. If he wanted to, he could destroy the humans with all of his forces but he sees them as livestock and is clever and insightful enough to understand the things you ointed out about the infighting. It is more convenient as it is now. As long as the humans don’t gain a means to turn the tables on the from him built structure, he won’t see a need to seriously act. It is a different matter when the danger becomes real, as for ex. with Haoyue and Haochen.
This is what makes it so interesting. I seriously look forward to learn more about Haochen’s time in the city and within the moon clan. Who knows who he will meet there?

          • Jonathan Hurd

I would also guess that part of the reason that the DGE also lets the humans be is that I feel it would be honestly boring for him to have nobody strong enough to challenge him. That is why he seemed a bit sad about the Demon God Hunters closely impending deaths. Without them there really isn’t anyone who can challenge him and give him a good fight within the human fields.

          • Robin

Yes, that’s probably why he is looking for a successor. Once, he can spend some time teaching him and then he can eventually retire, whereas ime is a relative factor in this case. Any being of several hundreds of years of age has to feel the passing of time differently than humans.
But I guess he got really angry that the clan of his right-hand DG was recently attacked. Maybe we get something about his reaction?

          • Jonathan Hurd

Well to be fair its not like those province guys have much left for resistance, lol. LHC’s team took out two of the three leaders and they were at max 7th step. I’m betting there was a blood bath after the moon clan people came to pick up their princess and found her in that state.

          • Robin

That would kind of to be exected when they only find two survivors of such a huge caravan. The punishment was surely the stuff of nightmares.
And I guess the DG responsible for this province will have to pay a certain price as well for not keeping his underlings in check.

          • Jonathan Hurd

That is something I am curious about there are 72 demon gods but only about 30 provinces. Now I understand there are some demon gods that seem to not care about territory like the one Xingyu fought. Then the top 5 are in the central town. We also have at least 3 in charge of attacking the humans. That leaves a lot of them still to be spread around. I wonder where they all are and how the provinces are governed.

          • Robin

Food point. I wondered about that too. It is likely that there are other bigger cities where several of them life together. And some probably share the government over a province, or are simply not interested in governing anything. My guess is that there is a large gap in power between the first andd the 72th god. The will still be powerful compared to humans, but I guess the area the lower gods govern, if they govern at all, is very small.

          • Jonathan Hurd

If I remember correctly while all the Demon Gods have a pillar the ones around 52nd and up are actually not even 9th step. That is not to even speak of the difference that the top 10 have from the rest.

I understand that all the demons including the demon gods work under the Demon God Emperor. I wonder though if there is a system with demon gods under other demon gods besides the Demon God Emperor.

It would also be interesting to see if there are internal disputes among the Demon Gods. From the way the Fiends were talking to LHC when he met the first Fiend Troops it looked like they had to be respectful to him as a Moon Clan noble, but they were still trying to stake out the their claim on the prize and credit in the cave. That seems to hint to me that there is at least some internal rivalry.

The other interesting thing I wonder about is how well the different provinces order is being kept. Considering the extreme food lack and how hard it is to assault the humans. It seems like there are a few options to try and get food to avoid starvation. Attack the humans, attack other provinces, or attack people in your own province. When faced with the idea of starving to death just about any living thing will fight to avoid that so i assume they would take one of those three options. If we are talking about sheer amount of resources the humans probably win out in that department. The problem is that you need some serious power to attack them and have any hope of success with their entrenched defenses. Therefore if they are not being lead by some demon gods attacking humans is probably past a single provinces combat ability. That leaves internal strife or outward strife… I get the feeling that the leaders of provinces might be forced to lead their groups against one another just to avoid an eruption of internal strife. Its kind of sad, but that is the fear of what happens with the sheer amount of overpopulation and sever lack of resources the demons find themselves in. Uniting to fight against each other might be the only way to avoid complete anarchy.

    • Darkraiders

MC in these kind of novel are always OP, so this is pretty much just normal.

      • Evilage

yah most wuxia novel MC’s are OP

  • Robin

Isn’t it cute that they shared their first kiss?

    • Evilage

If you are refering to li xin and lin xin then yah, i would love a woman who would forcefully take my first kiss without any warnings or indications of liking me.
If you are refering to the other kiss by our MC’s then, I EXPECTED MORE!!

      • Robin

True those were both first kisses and yeah, I expected more from the kiss between Cai’er and Haochen as well. But given the conditions they were in, we can be lenient since there surely will come a more romantic first kiss in the future. A true one.

I find Haochen matured a lot during this trip. His whole behavior changed slightly and he appears less childish, even during the interaction with the others. It was funny how he talked with Lin Xin.

It was funny as well to see that there are not only males who kiss a female unasked and assault like. Maybe you just didn’t find the right one yet. 😉

      • Sarlisark

Believe me being forcefully kissed by a girl is quite confusing, especially if you would not have expected it at all. (was my first kiss, and she had a boyfriend, with all of us in a single circle of freinds–> really shitty and unexpected situation)

Since it is your first kiss it is also to be expected to be your frist relationship so you have no idea at all what to do. Some of the weirdest minutes of my life. (am 20)

        • Robin

Wow, I can relate. It must be confusing to get your first kiss under such conditions. I only know the other way around but not as the first kiss, so it was less confusing. But still it is an experience you not easily forget. I look forward to get Li Xin’s side of the story later on. I am sure she will talk to her little f´bro soner or later.

    • Evilage

Funny how 200+ chapters didnt have any kisses and then the author decides to include two kisses right next to each other

    • Daene Kendrick

I like how LHC accepts what happened and instead of being a protective brother simply says if you want her make a move, but if you disrespect or hurt her i will hurt you. I do think it has been undisclosed attraction between Lin Xin and Li Xin since the initial auction house meeting. She just didnt see his worth and didnt make her feelings on the subject known, and Lin Xin on the other hand has never had a chance to figure out anything always under the close scrutiny of his grandfather.

      • Robin

Haochen handles this in a very grown-up way. He could have gotten all protective over her, but since he likes both of them, this is definitey the best decision. I wouldn’t have thought that Lin Xin is still so innocent. But it fits his true character after he lets down his masks. It gives him a cute side.

        • Kaarme

He is suitably protective. He’s just not over-protective. That’s the difference.

          • Robin

Yes, that was what I meant with suitably. I have a brother myself and a little protectiveness is nice and fine as long as it doesn’t border to overprotectiveness. 😉

        • Stephen_H

“Don’t ask me that, I don’t really know either. But know that if you try, you may have a chance, but you won’t have any if you don’t.” I never said those things when i was 14

          • Robin

You are no Scion of Light with the mind of a sage genius. 😉

          • Stephen_H

lol, your crushing my dreams here! 🙂

          • Robin

If it consoles you, at 14 I wouldn’t have said stuff like “You cannot use your eyes to estimate a treasure’s value, but you may use your heart for it.” either, like Cai’er did when the piggy appeared. ;D
