Shen Yin Wang Zuo, Chapter 254

Shen Yin Wang Zuo, Chapter 254: Slaughter!
(I)

Long Haochen calmly stood on Haoyue’s back, gazing at the approaching Grand Fiend Cavalry. His unprecedented urge to vent his anger on the enemies grew increasingly stronger, and at the same time, he felt a sharp pain upon feeling the warmth coming out from Cai’er’s body.

Never before had he felt hatred towards anything, but now, the hatred he felt towards this Grand Fiend Cavalry reached was unbearable.

For my sake! For my sake Cai’er had to suffer such an intense pain again. Even if I have to sacrifice the last drop of my blood, I won’t let them harm Cai’er anymore. I will kill all these demons!

The enemies drew closer and closer, and although Long Haochen didn’t have any ability to enhance his eyesight, his vision was already at a level where he could distinctly discern the strength of the enemy.

It was a Grand Fiend Cavalry of thirty, the same size as the previous one. Leading them was a Fiend Commander of the sixth step, but this group didn’t have any powerhouse other than him. Obviously, this Grand Fiend Cavalry of thirty was a reserve team just like the one they ran across, responsible for providing support. Having gotten the Fiend Lord’s signal, they came at the fastest speed possible.

A golden fog emanated from Long Haochen. It spread through the night sky, producing a bright and dazzling light similar to a lighthouse.

The Fiend Cavalry obviously saw it; they sensed this bright light filled with holy aura the same as Long Haochen sensed darkness type spiritual energy.

Storing Power.

Long Haochen could clearly sense the fast speed at which the liquid spiritual energy in him concentrated. The Holy Spirit Sword in his left hand was pushed into the ground next to Haoyue, and in his other hand, Blue Rain, Hibiscus of Light was changed into dual swords. At this time, he entered an eerie state of mind.

Along with his progress in cultivation, his speed of gathering spiritual power using Storing Power was a lot faster than before, and a great amount of powerful spiritual energy was poured into his dual blades Blue Rain, Hibiscus of Light at high speed.

Haoyue also started chanting with his three heads, each one chanting a different incantation in a melodious tempo that didn’t impact Long Haochen’s Storing Power. It rather had an harmonious mutual influence on it.

At this time, the cave at his back had returned to its calm, and only Li Xin was standing outside. At times, changes appeared on her countenance. Sometimes it was filled with regret, sometimes with guilt, but she still carried her two swords firmly and steadily.

Inside the cave, all the eyes were focused on Long Haochen, looking at his small yet sharp figure displaying the force of a man that could match ten thousand.

Although Long Haochen was facing the enemy battalion alone, the most unusual thing was that both the members of the 21st general grade Demon Hunt Squad and 4th soldier grade Demon Hunt Squad felt secure. It was as if, as long as Long Haochen was present, no one would be able to threaten them.

Everyone put effort into recovering their own spiritual energy. After recovering a bit, Luc Xi released a healing spell, focusing his healing with priority on the unconscious Dian Yan, whose injuries were most critical. Receiving the blow of a Fiend Commander with close to ten thousand units of spiritual energy, was like being struck by a mountain. Let alone his shield, both of his arms were shattered, and even his breastbone and his ribs were damaged to some extent. His internal organs were unharmed, but if not for Luc Xi’s prompt healing, he would undoubtedly have sequelae due to his internal fractures.

“Haochen, be careful of their ability to combine their spiritual energies.” Li Xin shouted in Long Haochen’s direction.

They had already been confronting Grand Fiend Cavalries twice: the first time, while under the effects of Haoyue’s Essence of Disorder, the Grand Fiend Cavalry didn’t have the occasion to bring out its full power. And the second time, it had been thanks to Cai’er’s formidable move that the Grand Fiend Cavalry’s attack ended with the death of the Fiend Lord, the cornerstone of their cavalry.

At that time, if not for the release of Cai’er’s sharp killing intent that terrified the Fiend Lord to the point of preventing him from being the focus point of their gathered spiritual energy union, no one could possibly have been able to block this blow.

And now, they were facing a Grand Fiend Cavalry for the very first time without Cai’er present to attract the enemy’s attention, and without the possibility of having Haoyue mount a magical sneak attack, Long Haochen was facing this Grand Fiend Cavalry alone, but would he be able to prevail over them on his own?

At the Fiend Cavalry’s back were a dozen of mounted Grand Fiends making preparation for conjoining their spiritual energy. The other twenty Grand Fiends were separated in two groups, one for each side, and surrounding him from three sides. The powerful oppressive force rose sharply. However one looked at the situation, they would say that Long Haochen cannot possibly resist them all.

Just at this time, Haoyue set in motion, his massive figure launching Long Haochen, charging at the direction of the Fiend Commander that was the target for the conjoined spiritual energy.

As a powerhouse of the sixth step, the Fiend Commander was fairly experienced and knowledgeable. Seeing the intensity of the light elemental spiritual energy surrounding Long Haochen, he determined that this human’s spiritual energy couldn’t compare to his own, to say nothing of the fact that he was in a state of conjoined spiritual energy.

Revealing a malicious smile, the Fiend Commander strode over the Nightmare Devil Horse, standing perfectly straight and charging at Long Haochen’s direction. On his back were a dozen Grand Fiend Knights, spears at hand, linked through a dark red connection of spiritual energy, appearing like a single entity, and following the Fiend Commander as they charged.

In fact, these Grand Fiend from cavalries were the elite of elite of the Fiend Clan. Put on the battlefield after thorough training, they were an existence of the same degree as the human’s Brilliant Angel Knights. Drawing power from their ability of conjoined spiritual energy, they formerly caused a quite important loss to the Temple Knight’s side. Every time they ran across them in the battlefield, the Temple Alliance would pick some powerhouses to handle them.

Long Haochen was just a single individual, only riding Haoyue, on whose back he just stood, but faced that Fiend Commander whose dark red flames rose frantically, illuminating everything on a ten square meters range. When comparing the two sides’ power, Long Haochen was like a mere child. However, Haoyue’s charge was still straight and without hesitation, keeping a strong front. At this time, the incantation from his mouth just stopped, but if one took particular attention, he would notice that at this moment, Haoyue’s eyes all became purple. The scales on his body were furthermore covered in a thin layer of purple ripples.

The two parties drew closer to each other, from a distance of a hundred meters to fifty, thirty, twenty, ten meters. By now, they were already close enough to each other to launch attacks.

Just at this time Haoyue released an ear-splitting howl from his three heads. An intense purple color could be seen, bursting out from Haoyue’s three heads.

An earth-shaking scene happened right then.

Under the effects of Haoyue’s loud bellow, the whole body of the Fiend Commander which was entirely covered in a dark red flames, trembled violently, and the massive spiritual energy all around his body suddenly disappeared, and those Grand Fiends of the cavalry in his rear as well as their Nightmare Devil Horse looked as if they had suddenly gotten drunk swaying unsteadily from side to side, without the slightest trace left of using their ability of conjoined spiritual energy.

Golden light, suddenly ripping the vast sky, compressed the air with a violent exploding sound. In the next instant, the hissing resonance clearly caused the Nightmare Devil Horse rode by the Fiend Commander to feel dizzy. A surge of bright light suddenly spread in the surrounding air.

“Kill!” Long Haochen shouted and Haoyue violently struck the Fiend Commander from the front, but the strangest was that this Fiend Commander, suddenly covered in golden threads, suddenly became motionless, until Haoyue’s blow arrived. Next, the spear in his hand as well as his body and his Nightmare Devil Horse were knocked back, undergoing the same treatment as their master, cut in two by Long Haochen’s hand.

If the previous Fiend Commander could justify his death in Long Haochen’s hand from the fact that he was already weakened in strength plus the assault from Yi Jun’s magic suppression as well as Lin Xin’s Resisting Ring of Fire, causing Long Haochen’s sneak attack to be successful, this kill was however in no way a fluke, it was an instant kill upon collision, against a Fiend Commander at its peak condition, that didn’t get a chance to strike a single blow against Long Haochen

No one knew what kind of ability this howl was meant to be, but after Long Haochen crossed those ten Grand Fiends standing behind the Fiend Commander, all that was left was a land of corpses, including those belonging to the Nightmare Devil Horses; no corpse was left intact. And it was down to the extent that these Grand Fiends and their mounts didn’t have the slightest chance to resist.

Some time after launching this loud bellow, Haoyue’s entire body was entirely devoid of aura, his eyes recovering their natural color. Not releasing any more magic, he clearly seemed somewhat tired. However, he had sufficient use in the battle.

Having cut down the Fiend Ruler’s conjoined spiritual energy, Long Haochen took control of the flow of the battle.

Affected by the effects from Haoyue’s howl, the Fiend Commander didn’t have the chance to launch a single effective ability, cut in two parts in a state of total terror by Asura Strike.

The rest of the battle simply went as a one-sided slaughter, where Long Haochen only made use of a few abilities: Charge, Assault, Lightning Thrust and Instant Blast Cross Cut.

These were low ranked Retribution Knight abilities that broke out with exploding power in his hands. With the backing of the Light Elemental Fairy Yating on his shoulder, using these low consumption abilities was no burden at all to Long Haochen. After a stored up Asura Strike, he had only a few hundreds units spiritual energy left, but through the means of his massive recovery of spiritual energy, he had no problem handling the rest of the enemies. Don’t forget that the current Long Haochen was drawing nearer and nearer to the sixth step of cultivation.

Inside of the cave, everyone was dazzled and stunned looking at this scene. A golden silhouette was moving unrestrained as it crushed everything in its path, flickering with bright light, and blowing the enemies to pieces. Furthermore, he still carried on his back Cai’er who lost four of her senses.

A single person, he was just by himself, but against all expectations, he managed to massacre a powerful Grand Fiend Cavalry only with the help of his mount, instantly defeating a Fiend Commander of the sixth step as if it was nothing. This was already completely out of the scope of a knight of the fifth step.

Feeling the biting cold killing intent released from Long Haochen’s body, everyone from the 21st general grade Demon Hunt Squad felt principally excited, in contrast the majority of the 4th soldier grade Demon Hunt Squad members felt ashamed…

Now to leave this cursed place. I haven’t done a tally but it safe to say… 100k points for the mission. Another 50k for the kills as they have had to kill some big wigs.

    • Alex Drake

It’s pretty much a jackpot of points

      • Daene Kendrick

Let’s just start with um wow. Did we all get the message loud and clear ” Do Not Fuck with Cai’er”

        • Alex Drake

Anyone who hasn’t is either braindead or blind

          • Jonathan Hurd

It is honestly going to be interesting to see what direction the 4th soldier grade DHS decide to go. It has become painfully obvious to them that they are severely behind the 21st General Grade DHS in basically all terms. They will also probably need some time to rest and recover considering their warriors arms. What I would find interesting is if they traded some Contribution Points to Lin Xin for his spirit power gathering pills. After that an upgrade to General Grade would be pretty simple considering the sheer amount of rewards they have. Hell they could sell some of the corpses and crystals they got and buy those pills from an Auction House if need be. I feel like going General Grade while it does hold certain risks also comes with a lot of benefits and is probably the fastest way to gain strength. As long as they still want to compete with LHC and his team that is probably the only option left.

I honestly think this is the last battle we are going to see out of this particular outing. The previous battles have all been triggered by certain problems forcing them to fight. The first group of Fiend Calvary because they were going the same place, the second Fiend Calvary because they would run into LHC who was alone in the cave, and the third Fiend Calvary because it was called by the Second group and LHC really really needed to vent. Now that LHC has calmed down and after they recover enough to move all they really need to do is put on their Moon Clan nobles uniforms and walk back home. They also have no reason to force a confrontation anymore especially with how many rewards they are currently carrying and the sheer amount of injured in their party.

          • Daene Kendrick

I think this will be the end of their wishing to compete with LHC and the 21st and from this point on will focus only on becoming stronger. Realizing that LHC never treated their teamwork as a competition but rather as a team, going forward this should help them realize this is no game this is about survival and the future of the human race. I think Luc Xin and The warrior from their squad specifically will finally realize they need to mature to their age and stop thinking of themselves as the best now their eyes have been opened to what genius and leadership truly entail.

          • Jonathan Hurd

I do have to say I love how Luc Xi was trying to use his age as an excuse for him being a better leader and LHC one of the youngest Demon Hunters is showing everyone what true maturity is. I think it might still take some more time for them to fully mature and stop treating everything like a giant competition. That is somewhat shown in how Luc Xi seems worried that LHC is hording the goodies from the Wailing Cavern to himself in chapter 254. Baby steps I guess.

        • Luke Confidential

Indeed, with such a jackpot of points and all this battle experience I don’t see the 4th soldier grade squad remaining soldier grade for long. Who hasn’t yet broken through on their squad? Li Xin and… anybody else?

          • Daene Kendrick

Li Xin, the summoner, and i believe the assassin. If I was the 4th squad I wouldnt be eager after this mission to uprank though. Seeing as how difficult this misssion is (even though it was ranked a king mission) they will have to be able to face large numbers of strong demons on their own in the future. I would take this time to do Soldier ranked missions and build up our team work and strength or promote and get the 2nd squad to accompany them on easier general grade missions.

It isnt that I dont think they will have met the requirements to promote, I just dont think that as a whole they are ready for the added responsibility and difficulty. Remember its supposed to take many missions and a big chunk of time in order to be ready to advance to the next step, maturity wise they are not ready. the 21st skill and power wise and leadership wise was prepared for the advancement. I didnt see any point in them remaining soldier grade. This is of course my overall opinion at this point who knows how much they may mature after this situation when they finaly realize all their own conclusions about LHC and all the members of the 21st were completely wrong.

          • Robin

Every mission that leads them into the enemy territory will bring the chance for them to encounter such groups of demons. And they wouldn’t even need to enter it far to have this happening, as we have seen with the caravan. So yeah, they need to improve and muster up or they will have a problem. This mission definitely showed them their abilities and their weaknesss. Now they know where they stand without tag-teaming with another more powerful squad.

          • Daene Kendrick

True it will bring them into demon territory but the majority of the missions available at the soldier class level wont bring them deep into demon territory as they are now.

I also believe that there will be a change in how the fourth approaches their leadership as Luc Xin realized that the tank of the squad really in a battle situation should be the man leading the group, and he can focus on the overall tactical leadership

          • Robin

Yes, that is true. Nevertheless, call it bad luck but they run into an army even before penetrating really deep into the demon territory. So they need to be prepared. Without Haochen they would all have died long before reaching the cavern.

          • Daene Kendrick

I wanted to break the warrior and Luc Xins necks when they were thinking of undermining LHC he played them like a flute from beginning to end. I think he knew that they were going to attempt to undermine him just from the way they approached him and name Li Xin acting captain when they joined forces.

          • Robin

He outsmarted them completely. Another charming point. He is not only stronger than the rest, he is even more clever than them.

        • Robin

Yeah, they don’t know that the mission was upgraded and should think that on their own general grade missions are truly impossible for them to accomplish right now. 😉

    • Majk

Im not sure if they will get full points for the mission since LHC cant really talk about the tower and his crystal will only show the specters that attacked him.
He will either say that he couldent get past them which could be too little to consider the mission to be a success OR he will report it to someone trust worthy and they will aprove the mission as completed.

Either way I dont think that they will get the points for the mission without reporting to someone higher which will be troubelsome.

      • Alex Drake

did you forget the fact that the mission ranking went up after they left? they’ll get plenty

        • Robin

And the mission only covered exploring. Even with leaving out the tower, which isn’t visible to anyone anymore, he can show them the recording and report about the phenomen of the Hissing Sounds as well as about the inside of the cavern. He explored it and can prove it, so the mission is accomplished. No way for the Alliance out not to reward them in full.

          • Daene Kendrick

He can prove that he spent extensive time down there as well by showing them the technique he designed based off of the wailing attacks.

          • Robin

Yeah, he has enough proof. And his report will make them be simply astonished.

          • Daene Kendrick

Also on my breakdown of contribution points from the mission origianly if they stick to the letter of the agreement the split would be 140k and 60k but if you go by what the agreed amount was it would be 197k to 3k split lol. If only LHC was less of an overall Good Guy.

          • Robin

We,, he is how he is. And we like him like that, right?
There will be a lot of possibilities to gain CP in the future.

          • Daene Kendrick

True he is who he is but at the same time, with the upgrade of difficulty level his team may impress upon him the fact that they carried the majority of the weight during this mission and thus convince him of a more fair split of points. Not saying that this will actually happen but i can see Lin Xin atleast fighting for this

          • Robin

And they would be right. His team saved the day aall the time and he alone fulfilled the core task of the mission. So if you look at it this way, they deserve a lot more of the CP. But I can tell you that he won’t give deviate from their agreement. It is simply who he is.

          • Jonathan Hurd

I think everyone in the 21st General Grade DHS will follow LHC’s lead and knowing LHC’s personality he will keep to the original deal. If he didn’t he wouldn’t be our LHC. This is sometimes vexing admittedly like when he potentially lost his second spiritual stove thanks to his kind heartedness, but it is honestly easy to do good things when the cost is small. It is much harder to do the right thing when the cost is big, and that is what makes him such a great person. He doesn’t let himself be overwhelmed by greed.

          • Robin

Yeah, he is so damn good-natured about everything, even if someone tries to cheat on him. He is a round and absolutely likeable character, although sometimes his overly good natured self can cause a headache while reading like the matter with the spiritual stove at the end of the competition.

          • Jonathan Hurd

That honestly was probably the most bittersweet moment of the entire Light Novel thus far. Part of you is screaming to yourself “DON”T GIVE THAT UP ITS SO GOOD!” and the other part is screaming “IF HE DOESN’T HE WOULDN”T BE LHC!”. I am just so glad it worked out in the end, lol.

          • Robin

Yes, andperhaps it was a good thing he didn’t get the stove. We wouldn’t have known what kind of stove it had been. Now he has two stoves that are perfectly matched. And in a way, Sheng Yue compensated him for this loss in the end. But yeah, it was a moment I would have liked to bite a chunk out of my table desk.

          • Jonathan Hurd

I think you and his team at that point. Probably most of the audience as well, Lol.

          • Robin

            Probably. 😉

          • Daene Kendrick

Well even had he not promised the fairy freedom and had showed his ability with the light attribute I’m sure the fairy still would ha e chosen him. The fact that it was free and came back of its own volition made it easier for their compatibility. I never for one second thought he would not wind up with the fairy, and the fact that grandpa knew of his condition just made the show of playing fair a show that allowed him to show favoritism with out anyone noticing one more evolution and 100 ise maybe instead of scion of light it will become a God of light body

          • Robin

He could have kept the stove for the Temple or for another high ranking individual. It could have been exchanged with other Temles for advantages or money supporting the Assassin Temple. His decision to give it to the new recruits was highly influenced by Haochen’s presence and his wish to present it to him.
But yeah, his idea was a farce but truly ingenious.

          • Jonathan Hurd

Honestly who can complain? She choose for herself with no one else forcing her. The point was to lure her to you and quite honestly LHC didn’t even take advantage of his Light Essence that could of easily won the battle. He was the only one who looked at her a sentient being rather than as a tool or weapon to be used for person glory. Imo, LHC was the only one who deserved to end up with her.

          • Luke Confidential

Seriously though, Lin Xin was worth a Spiritual Stove.

          • Jonathan Hurd

Lin Xin and keeping LHC’s honor, definitely worth it. He really wouldn’t be the same LHC if he didn’t choose him.

          • Luke Confidential

‘This is sometimes vexing admittedly like when he potentially lost his second spiritual stove thanks to his kind heartedness’

            Worth it.

They could have ended up with some 4th rank nearly 25 year old hack of a mage on his last try to join a Demon Hunt Squad.

  • Robin

Well, what a difference in power. It was not as strong a battalion as before, but he eliminated all of them on his own while the team struggled with their cavalry unit. This was really interesting. Better not wake the slumbering Long. 😉

Look forward to an even more amazing chap tomorrow!

    • Daene Kendrick

Actually if you read correctly it states that this unit is an elite unit though they don’t have the FIEND LORD leading them which he probably was originally. They are on par with the knight unit that LHC rode with during the squad competition so they are all probably near the peak of the 5 step with this fiend commander on the verge of becoming a fiend lord? That is what I got from reading this chapter at least.

      • Robin

Yep, you are right. And I read really in detail. They are almost on par with the former one without the level 7 Fiend Lord. Saying Haochen is as strong as the whole rest without going all out. 😀

        • Daene Kendrick

I look forward to the other members responses after seeing this overwhelming display by LHC and how they will approach him in the future. For certain no one in the 21st or 4th will ever doubt who the strongest of this generation truly is. Cai’er is a surgical strike meaning her strength comes from what she can do to a single target, and LHC has just proved that he is the area of effect of their one 2 punch.

I also think that him not being there to hold them up through the majority of that last battle will help them all in the future especially the 21st as they will now know they need not focus on what LHC is doing in a battle and focus on the task that they have been assigned..

          • Robin

Yeah, he really is OP but in a nice way. And he usually doesn’t portray it to this extent, which is adorable. He is silently content with doing whatever he can for the team without a need for thanks or special treatment.

          • Daene Kendrick

I believe he hasnt truly shown his abilites thus far simply for the fact that until the team reaches a level adequate to his ability he didnt want them to get in over their heads thinking he could carry them through. Atleast not until they grew closer as a team and understood their own roles better.

Unfourtunetly situations havent allowed this plan to progress as he has constantly had to put himself further and further out there.

          • Robin

I don’t think he thought about it in such detail. Maybe he doesn’t even know how strong he truly is. Only, that he was not strong enough to protect Cai’er like wanted to.
During their team fights he did all that was appropiate and needed in the respective situation. I didn’t get the impression that he witheld his power intentionally.

          • Daene Kendrick

Thats what I am saying, if you look back at the team challenge when he was with the squad at first he didnt push himself and I think in most situations he will not push himself to his fullest unless the situation requires it. I think he goes into battle planning on holding back on his usage of spiritual energy until a need actually arises. Like when a serious threat appears other then that I believe he holds back so that the team can fight and gain more experience amongst themselves as he evaluates their progress and gives them instructions.

          • Robin

I understand what you are pointing at. But I guess it is rather to keep a safety margin. There is no need to go all out if the team works in the best condition and they can interact. But if something happens, he still has a reserve to go all out and safe the day, In a sense it is the same, but with a different intention behind it. But maybe it is a mixture of both. His mind is that good that he could think about his comrades’ improvement first.

          • Jonathan Hurd

I want in on the sleepless night discussion, wooh! I think the big point is not so much that LHC is purposely not doing everything but that he realizes he can’t do everything. The point of being in a team is you have to trust your team members and rely on them otherwise there really isn’t a team at that point. I do agree that LHC paces himself quite a bit, but that is mainly to stand ready for unforseen circumstances. Each fight he has paced himself in something has come out to force him to release his full potential to deal with it. In the caravan battle that was the 7th step beserker. On the wall that was a Dark Green dual bladed demon and the flying beta demon. Even when finding Yating it was that 7th step Blood Thirsty Beta. Squandering your energy to overkill enemies is just not a smart idea in a battle.

          • Robin

Welcome in our night discussion of the sleepless souls. 😉
Yeah, this is exactly what I was going for. He relies on his companions and is ready in case there is need to do a little more than that. It is the same with Cai’er. Theoretically she could use the stove more often, or the materialization of her deathly killing intent. But she only does so in a case of emergency. Those two powerhorses are aware that they are the core of the team and carry the responsibility to save the day when the world turns upside down.

          • Jonathan Hurd

I do have to agree with Daene that fighting without LHC will probably greatly help the growth of the rest of the 21st DHS members. Especially imo Han Yu who now can even more clearly see just how big the gap between him and LHC is. LHC and Cai’er are definitely amazingly powerful and corner stones of the team, but that doesn’t mean the rest can slack off. Thankfully Yin Er’s piggy was able to surprise attack one of the 6th step fiends otherwise they would of all probably died. The rest of the team also needs to continue to grow so they can properly support LHC and Cai’er’s sides. We have seen it a few times already, LHC will always put himself in the way of the strongest opponent and stall them. Cai’er will also help in those situations. However, when there are multiple powerhouses like what happened with the second Fiend Calvary unit the rest of the team needs to be able to step up and be able to handle it while LHC and Cai’er are busy.

          • Daene Kendrick

I think that there may be 1 or 2 small skirmishes on the return trip, but those should be easily handled. I think during the necessary downtime to recover from this mission we shall see the 21st GGDHS improve by leaps and bounds from what they were before this mission, technically speaking this is only their second overall mission together and they have only ever fought as a group a handfull of times. In the downtime to come i believe they will rearm with better equipment and possibly 3 or 4 of them will reach the 6th step. These being LHC, Cai’er, Lin XIn, and Han Yu as they were all middle ranked 5th steppers.. and Lin Xin will probably find or purchase the cultivation pill for 6th steppers recipe that he mentioned before they left on this mission.

As for the 4th SGDHS I dont forsee them advancing to general grade soley for the fact that they now realize how much they still need to grow. Maybe half a year after returning from this mission they will be ready to advance depending on the current cultivation level of those members who hadnt yet reached the 5th step. The only squad other then the 21st that was near cultivation level wise for the advancement was the 2nd SGDHS and they are no where near the cp requirment even if they manage to complete a mission before this group returns.

          • Jonathan Hurd

I am looking forward to the gear upgrades. Apparently they were already selling Spiritual level gear with a few glorious in soldier grade so just think about what General Grade will be offering. I assume the 4th SGDHS will fight a bit more to help at least their knight and summoner make it to the 5th step. Afterwards the reason I think they might jump to General Grade is mainly because of the advantages that come from it, but also only there can they hope to start catching up to LHC’s team. My guess would be that by the point Cai’er is back on her feet and the 21st GGDHS is back in order the 4th SGDHS will have advanced. Though I’m not a hundred percent sure how much more we will be seeing them for a while.

Seems you are as night active as I am. ^.^

          • Daene Kendrick

lol i only sleep 4 hours every 4 days

          • Robin

            Seems like it. ^^
I would prefer to be in bed, but I am working on a paper with a deadline in sight so, no choice. But it is really nice to know that I am not the only sleepless soul out here.

          • Daene Kendrick

Hahaha, yea right now I am designing the schematic for a walking robot that uses Ultrasonic Frequency sound to determine if it needs to detour and in which direction. It is a pain in the rear but its my project for this semester. Reading this series and the comments make it easier to step away from time to time lol.

          • Robin

So you are in the same boat as me. This is nice. 😉
Chatting with you helps my mind to take a break from time to time, and to keep me awake and going. I am writing my exam paper about the medieval ages and the Nibelungenlied.
            Your work sounds really interesting.

          • Daene Kendrick

Ah that poem about Sigfried, I dont recall much of it. But i have always been a fan of The bronze and iron age mythology and stories.

          • Robin

It is a novel about the last days of Burgund, a medieval fiction. And yeah, it tells Siegfried’s story, or at least part of it. It is the German variation, seeing that there are many like the Nordic or Swedish.

          • Daene Kendrick

Welcome to the late night discussion board lol.

Thats what I ment with my comment though, LHC mature beyond his years knows what he has to do to bring out the most of his team. Yes he could do like he did at the caravan battle after putting everyone in their places and take on all commers like a demon child, but normally he does everything he can to ensure his team doesnt have to face anything they can not handle in the battles. He knows that until the final moments of the battle he has to reign in his senses and fight off the battle rage the others are all feeling until that one or two opponents rear their ugly heads and then its game time for LHC.

I am sure in the future as his team gets stronger and their teamwork becomes flawless we will see him cutting loose more during the battles because he will have the confidence that if something happens the team as a whole will be able to handle the situation.

For those of us who have played mmorpgs the roles i see the squad playing are as follows.

LHC: Main tank/ Hold Aggro/Finish IT
Cai’er: Crowd Control, her job isnt to kill everything, it is simply to make life easier for LHC in the battles with one shot kills.
            Lin Xin: Support/Buffs
            Han Yu: Offtank/Offheals
            SIma Xian: DPS
            Wang Yuanyuan: DPS
            Chen Ying’er: DPS

            Hao Yue: Buffs/Off Heals/DPS

          • Robin

I thought so. We both meant the same only from two perspectives. And yeah, this setting is legit. It would be an interesting game.

  • Daene Kendrick

The most amazing thing being, that even though LHC went full out showing everyone for the first time what he is really capable of when pushed to the limit against a group of same ranked opponents, he wasn’t even at full strength so we still don’t know what he is really capable of.

    • Jonathan Hurd

What I love is its like, you guys remember how hard your butt was being kicked with 11 of you together (sans Cai’er and LHC). Well LHC alone is now going to fight that same number…. And win…. Hands down. No tricks, no surprises. Just straight up fight and he makes this look easy, lol.

      • Robin

No wonder they feel ashamed. This was a slap in the face of major magnitude.

        • Jonathan Hurd

That definitely has to not feel good. I mean lets be honest here the 4th SGDHS hasn’t managed to kill anyone above the 5th step except for one Fiend commander who was half dead and kill stolen by Li Xin. At the very least the rest of the 21st can be proud of their performances. Yin Er’s piggy killed a 6th step for himself. Lin Xin’s pills allowed Wang Yuanyuan, Han Yu, and Sima Xian to tank a blast from someone using 10k spiritual energy and not be completely broken. Even all those members together though doesn’t equal LHC or Cai’er alone. Take out the members of the 21st GGDHS the sheer power difference between the two teams is depressing. I mean honestly what has the 4th SGDHS accomplished? Their warrior was basically broken from one attack. They couldn’t even take down a 6th step guy with a decent sneak attack like Yin Er. Overall they have basically lost in every aspect.

          • Robin

Yes, when they doubted the superiority of the 21st DHS during the award ceremony they are now completely desillusioned.

          • Daene Kendrick

Li Xin is probably the only member who never doubted LHC and his abilities but was still surprised in how much he had matured and managed to outshine everyone. Maybe in the future this will lead to better cooperation between the squads but I don’t see a joint mission happening again for some time. I truly believe that he fourth will spend the foreseeable future focusing on self growth and team building using what they have seen and learned from Not only LHC but also from the team work of the entire 21st

          • Luke Confidential

I find myself wondering if Luc Xi is going to be so broken he tells LHC to keep their share of the reward points, since they didn’t actually earn it.

[Naturally there’s no way LHC would actually accept that offer, if he couldn’t force those points down Luc Xi’s throat he’d stealthily give them to Sis for distribution later.]

          • Jonathan Hurd

We should keep in mind that in the beginning Li Xin was just as hesitant about LHC’s abilities as everyone else. The difference between her and the rest of the 4th DHS is that she got to see him in action way earlier and saw how amazing he is.

On Luc Xi trying to give up all rewards he actually tried to do that at the end of the caravan battle. LHC as everyone here probably expects told him ‘We’ll stick to the old deal, my team is getting the bigger reward so naturally we have to do more of the lifting’.

          • Luke Confidential

The thing to keep in mind is, 21st squad isn’t normal. Every individual is an absolute freak in their own way, in some ways their freakishness entirely defies their Job. Their one weakspot is priestly magic that the knights and mounts and pills help cover.

If the 4th soldier squad had tagged along with any of the other higher ranked squads, they may have been shown up a little but not that badly, not even Yang Wengzhao’s squad [though I have no doubt it would have done a little better job of outshining them than the 3rd.]

          • Jonathan Hurd

Oh I understand, still it is a pretty big blow when they assumed from the start that they were at least the 21st squads equals if not better. People are going to naturally doubt unbelievable things they are told like for instance the idea that a squad of 5th steppers can kill a 7th step demon by themselves. The truth of it all and the difference has been made more and more clear each step they take. Its not even just LHC and Cai’er even without them the 21st squad is still a step above them.

I would argue that if it had been any other two demon hunt squads from LHC’s generation the farthest I can see them getting is maybe escaping with their lives from the caravan battle and that might be pushing it.

          • Luke Confidential

Considering the 21st General Grade Squad is still a complete General Grade Squad [complete with a 5th Step Guardian Knight] even without LHC, that’s pretty obvious isn’t it? 😛

  • Anto Wibowo

    Thank you for the chapter!

  • k1nk4

    thanks for the chapter!

  • ALHoward

Thank you, THANK YOU for translating! I LOVE THIS WEB NOVEL! I listen to ‘Audiomachine’ every time I read a chapter to bring out the intensity of the fight scenes, intimacy between Cai’er and Long Haochen, and the overall adventure and mystery of this web novel ; -)

    • Jonathan Hurd

I gotta admit that is an amazing idea I should try that some point, heh. I have always just read it out loud to myself.

      • ALHoward

You should! Aside from web novels, I have a Kindle and a crap load of books too so when I read, I crank up the ‘Chill Out’, ‘Audiomachine’ or ‘Buddha Bar’ stations on Pandora. Takes my reading experience to a whole ‘nother level! 😉 Happy reading!

  • ZaX

Proven that anger and shouting makes you stronger. Thanks for the chapter

  • ZaX

  • Allstarall

I wonder what it looks like with cai-er…

  • Raden gilang

thanks a lot for translator, i’m new on this novel and i just read it all from 1st chapter in a whole week, cant wait for next chapter.. lol

    • Robin

Welcome in our little circle. 😉
The next chapter will be out this evening so look forward to it!

      • Jonathan Hurd

One of us. One of us. One of us… It is pretty sad when you get to that last page and find out you can’t just hit next chapter to fulfill the fix, but thankfully we have a pretty quick release schedule to help solve that problem.

        • Robin

Yeah, I remember the feeling. When I started reading and came close to the last listed chap on the index I felt so sad! And was right after happily surprised that there were more chapters that were just not listed yet. But still at some point there comes the inevitable temporary end.
But this time the wait is really worth it since we get to see how the two strings of the story get back together.

          • Daene Kendrick

Lol I started reading this webnovel before Christmas and have tread the entirety of the series 3 times since I enjoy it so much

          • Robin

Wow, but I can relate. I am probably the same, only that I started around the middle of september and decided to actively support Toto from october on when I reached th end. It is amazing that at that time he worked on the project completely on his own. And still he never missed a release.

  • Dragon

Hoechen going on a rampage awsome

    • Inda

Dude, please don’t ever write Hoechen again. (like, seriously) For a split second there you made me think of impure things though his character is anything but that. (sigh, lol) Take the time to write his name properly or scroll up to see how it’s spelt, please.

  • jamaicandj

Welp mc is on a warpath is awesome! Nothing can stand in his way right now. Thanks for the chapter.

  • iamgibraltar

It nearly makes me barf…this whole schmoozy romance, “I will go the ends of the world for you, can’t spend a minute away from you” between LHC and Cai’er!! I just have to remind myself that they are 14y/o and keep praying for her to get whacked!

    • Ryan

I know i shouldn’t reply since it just encourages people like you. Yet a romance where one would sacrifice everything for another and are emotionally sustained by one another is a beautiful thing that is far too uncommon. The fact that you so vehemently oppose this to the point where you even hope Cai’er is killed means that you are either very jaded and far too pessimistic, are too immature to realize or appreciate the rare treasure this sort of relationship is, or are just outright malicious as a person. In any of these cases, as much as I want to, I can’t really get angry at you or disgusted since what I mainly feel towards you is pity the more I think about it.
Seriously, think a little before you comment stuff like that. An opinion like that is just depressing and instigating. You’re entitled to it, but keep it to yourself

      • iamgibraltar

Well, that escalated fast!! This is a fictional work, don’t get uber invested in the characters dude! You should take your own advise and not comment! You do realize we don’t all have to like the same character, right?

        • Austin DeWitt

I’m sorry, but if you’ve gotten this far into the story already you have to realize that Cai’er is nearly as important to the story as LHC and that this would be a story with the whole “schmoozy romance, “I will go the ends of the world for you, can’t spend a minute away from you”‘ theme going, if you don’t like it/ can’t accept it them you should of quit reading a long time ago. It’s like 60% of the story

          • LordGenome

Exactly and that is why i like this story, this is one of the few LN that has a romance that i can accept, not just “hm okey in 20-30 chapters in got you to be my fiance or wife now you can follow me silently till 1000 chapters and sometimes lay me to kids like eggs…..” *looks at Coiling Dragon and True Martial World….*

        • Your telling me to read 250chapters into a book and not be invested into the characters. Mk

    • ViRuss

      Just piss off then.

Oh don’t you guys get annoyed at these pricks who read the same thing you do, but when you’re thankful for the chapter and all the hard work they’ve done. These folks are just complaining and offer no thanks. uhh, just some people…
