Shen Yin Wang Zuo, Chapter 251

Shen Yin Wang Zuo, Chapter 251: Six Paths of Samsara (II)

Wang Yuanyuan made her own preparations to take over from him at any time, but at some point, Sima Xian’s voice suddenly rang, “Yuanyuan, let me be the second one to go.”

Wang Yuanyuan started, unconsciously glancing at him. Sima Xian’s face was filled with resolution, looking right into her face, “I’m a man.”

“Okay.” Wang Yuanyuan didn’t nag, only doing a thumbs up in his direction.

At this time, the others from the 21st Demon Hunt Squad could only think of Long Haochen. If he was present, perhaps everything would be different. He would definitely have been able to block the attack of this kind of enemy without needing to take any sort of pills.

Having lost its core, the team’s strength was bound to suffer a great loss.

An ice-cold killing intent once again arose, largely exceeding the last time in intensity. In the darkness, Cai’er slowly moved away, not concealing her own figure and advancing slowly in the Fiend Lord’s direction.

The others would temporarily be able to hold out against the Fiend Commander’s attacks, but the Fiend Lord was truly a deadly threat for them, the real threat.

Cai’er already had no other choice. With every step she took, the grey aura surrounding her body became stronger, and her pure killing intent gradually condensed into the shape of a sharp blade. Cai’er held in her right hand a dark golden dagger inclined towards the ground, as her left hand was pressed against her chest. She walked slowly, but looking at her, the Fiend Lord clearly became panicked, grasping his blood-colored heavy sword with his two hands. Standing motionless on the ground, the dark-red radiance surrounding his body grew more intense.

This time, Cai’er was attacking seriously. If she couldn’t successfully assassinate the enemy, they would get wiped out on this day. She didn’t know when Long Haochen would come back, but right now, she was the temporary captain. She had to make a path for Long Haochen to come back safe and sound, for him to be able to come back without getting attacked by these Fiends. Making use of her strength to keep everyone alive was undoubtedly her duty as Long Haochen’s girlfriend.

Cai’er’s eyes had already turned completely grey, and around the sharp blade condensed at her back, six different symbols slowly appeared.

These symbols weren’t close to any letter or character, but at the time they appeared, they caused even the Fiend Lord to take a few steps back. The shock was so large that when Han Daosi made his move to the side, the rest of the Fiend Cavalry didn’t have any reaction to his attack, and their malevolent faces were just completely panic-stricken.

“My eyes for yours, first part of Six Paths of Samsara, Eye of Samsara.”

Cai’er made her move and all the intense killing intent surrounding her immediately disappeared. On her left hand was a pitch-black dagger shining with a dark purple brilliance. At her back, the first of the six symbols that was shaped like an eye suddenly enlarged, hiding her figure behind it.

At this time, Cai’er seemed totally different from her usual self. From the eyes of the Fiend Lord, she resembled a death god coming for him.

A bloody glow was shot and the Fiend Lord’s whole body and just turned it into a massive blood-colored ball. A multitude of blood-colored beams shot from his body, attempting to stop Cai’er’s attack from all directions. This was because he abruptly found out that along with the killing intent that horrified him, his perception of Cai’er had also totally disappeared.

As the dark purple radiance intertwined, Cai’er was already thirty meters away, at the Fiend Lord’s back.

A miserable scream was heard from the Fiend Lord as a third of the heavy sword in his hand snapped. More importantly, from his eyes, black colored blood overflowed; against all expectations, he had turned blind. On his left shoulder, a deep scar could clearly be seen. The Nightmare Devil Horse’s four limbs were also broken, and it could only be crawling on the ground, letting out mournful shrieks of pain.

However, Cai’er’s eyes lost their ability to see at the same moment her opponent was hit.

“My ears for yours, second part of the Six Paths of Samsara, Ears of Samsara.”

Cai’er didn’t stop, as black as ink, her silhouette was surrounded in purple, and a poignant radiance burst forth from the Dagger of Samsara, before her body disappeared in the midst of the darkness, only leaving an odd symbol in the air.

Ever since she completed her assimilation of the Spiritual Stove of Samsara this was the first time Cai’er went all out using it. As the most powerful spiritual stove humans had ever discovered, it surpassed any other spiritual stove in power.

The Fiend Lord obviously wouldn’t wait for death helplessly. With a mad roar, his body suddenly became dark-red-colored, and from inside, a loud bang resounded. At this time, he was just like a human knight making use of the Brilliant Body. Holding a huge sword in his hands, he abruptly jumped off the Nightmare Devil Horse’s back, spiralling in the air as the terrible fluctuations of spiritual energy released from his body took the shape of flames from hell, causing the rocks on the ground to melt. Against all expectations, he immediately tried to dive underground to escape.

At the time she appeared in view, Cai’er was beside the Fiend Lord, whose hurried escape immediately came to an end. His entire right hand disappeared, covered in blood, and his pair of ears spouted out some black colored blood. Miserably screaming in pain, his massive body fell to the ground. His leftover left hand faced Cai’er’s direction, frantically punching at her.

A dark red-colored radiance abruptly passed through his fist, and under that dark red radiance, a hexagonal dark red crystal surprisingly appeared.

His magical crystal! In a state of total fear and pain, the Fiend Lord found out that his own magical crystal was the target of the fatal attack Cai’er launched. Even if his blow managed to successfully kill Cai’er, it would be difficult for him to survive from this.

“My tongue for yours, third path of the Six Paths of Samsara, Tongue of Samsara.”

The pitch-black brilliance gradually faded away, and the dark purple radiance extended like a rainbow, forming a single entity with Cai’er, appearing like the sword of the god of death. Next, she appeared once again at the Fiend Lord’s back.

The magical crystal condensed in the air, and following next, two “Ding, ding” sounds rang out, and that blow cut the Fiend Lord’s magical crystal in two, letting no room for him to display his brutal strength as he fell to the ground.

The Fiend Lord’s massive silhouette stopped moving, and the surrounding flames were burning, just as before. Underneath, the Nightmare Devil Horse seemed to be frozen, left with bloody scars. In the next instant, the head of this Fiend Lord fell next to the Nightmare Devil Horse abdomen.

“Puff-paff.” The split corpse suddenly fell down, but the strangest thing was that there wasn’t a single drop of blood falling down. Both the Nightmare Devil Horse and the Fiend Lord’s flesh had completely turned ash grey-colored.

A blood red colored glow shone from the Fiend Lord’s body, and a bloody halo exploded in the air.

With the night wind blowing, Cai’er stayed completely motionless, just like a peaceful statue standing in the midst of darkness. All the terrifying aura faded away in that instant, but she was still standing there, completely motionless. However, none of the Grand Fiends had the courage to dare launch an attack against her.

While Cai’er released the full power of her Spiritual Stove of Samsara on this side of the battle, rapid changes happened in the general situation of the battlefield.

Han Daosi’s sneak attack from behind was successful, and the most important fact was the attack that was to be launched against the Grand Fiend Cavalry.

Li Xin had been waiting all this time for an opportunity. She knew clearly that when facing this Fiend Lord, she couldn’t carelessly attack, which would only be akin to suicide. In the instant Cai’er successfully suppressed that Fiend Lord, Li Xin finally started to move.

The Rose Unicorn fused perfectly with her own spiritual energy, and at the same time Han Daosi charged at them, a dazzling red light followed behind.

Li Xin’s blow put Storing Power to use. She was only a single step away from the fifth step, and barely managed to put Holy Sword in use with Storing Power’s assistance. With the further amplification she had from the Rose Unicorn, her pair of swords charged. A bright Light Thorn appeared in enemy’s view.

Her Light Thorn was completely different from Long Haochen’s: except from the body that was also filled in light essence, it was instead full of imposing fire essence. Her choice of location to attack was extremely clever; it was the middle of the formation that enabled the Fiend Cavalry’s spiritual energy to be gathered and fused all together.

If she aimed too far behind, she wouldn’t even threaten the Fiend Commander, but if she aimed too far in the front, it would get instead blocked by his soldiers’ own initiative.

Two Grand Fiends were sent flying by Li Xin’s all out attack, and only five Grand Fiends were left to supplement the Fiend Commander with spiritual energy. Afterwards, it was Han Daosi’s turn to intervene, and his dagger ferociously penetrated into the cervical vertebra of a Grand Fiend, perfectly severing his central nerve.

This operation on their side was enough to lower the pressure put on the defense, but even so, the situation on the cave’s side was quite desperate.

After three entire minutes, Han Yu was unable to resist anymore, and retreated, the shield and sword in his hand completely broken into pieces.

The following Sima Xian only resisted for three hits before being out, spouting blood, his staff broken in half.

Compared to Sima Xian, Wang Yuanyuan was still better off. Although she wasn’t an expert in defense, she still could meet force with force against this Fiend Commander. Under the joint effects of the Spiritual Bursting Pill and the Bloodthirsty Pill, she managed to hold him off for twice as long as Sima Xian. As long as she resisted these consecutive attacks, the Fiend Commander’s backup in spiritual energy coming from the rear declined, but there weren’t enough close quarter fighters left in the cave to defend against him.

At this crucial time, the silhouette glinting with the thunder of the Grand Birdy Demon appeared once again on the battlefield; the Mythic Mirror Image Treasure Pig had intervened once again.

However, even if that Fiend Commander’s backup of spiritual energy had lessened, he still exceeded the Grand Birdy Demon in strength. That was to say nothing of the fact that McDull could after all only imitate the Grand Birdy Demon. In the aspect of putting his abilities to use, he could obviously not compare to a true Grand Birdy Demon, in addition to this fact he didn’t have the Soul Sharing Shackles to share the damage. Retreating in defeat against that Fiend Commander’s powerful attacks, he was already pushed back to the inside of the cave.

At this moment, the situation inside of the cave was just too bad. Bai Xiaomo and Yi Jun had completely exhausted their spiritual energy, Luc Xi’s healing would be of no use to the Grand Birdy Demon, and from the Soul Sharing Shackles’ side-effects, Han Yu, Wang Yuanyuan, Sima Xian and Lin Xin suffered important wounds. Han Yu and Sima Xian even lost their own weapon.

  • Chandra Andrean

where our lhc? come quick! ur waifu lost her senses!

    • Kaarme

It’s not all bad. The senses return in time, but I expect Haochen to put the interval to excellent use by once again holding Cai’er’s hand every chance he gets, just like in the good old times. Maybe he’ll even try to spoil her as much as it’s possible considering the desolate surroundings!

      • Jonathan Hurd

What is nice is he now has an official castle/tower to whisk his beloved away to and keep her safe there to recover.

        • Kaarme

Safe? The trials are still ongoing, right? The first battle of the first trial was one of the toughest fights he ever had and he would have lost miserably if his best buddy Haoyue hadn’t been there. For the time being the tower being safe is a rather relative concept.

          • Jonathan Hurd

To be fair from what Elux said he will never die from those trials. Also the point of that first trial was to establish control of the first floor. As long as they don’t go deeper there is no fear of another trial. Quite honestly it seems like the safest place of all since no one has the ability to follow him there and he doesn’t have to take the trials.

          • Kaarme

Yeah, that might very well be true as long as one of them doesn’t wander behind some pillar to take a leak. The drawback is that this probably won’t be the last of the demon reinforcements appearing. Too many have gone missing. So, they might not be able to leave anymore if they stick around for too long, inside or outside of the tower.

          • Jonathan Hurd

From how Elux setup the Tower I think it is probably equipped to sustain life since it is partially intended as a training ground and safe haven for his new disciple. Also it is not quite clear yet if all you have to do to activate trials is walk forward in the tower or if LHC can actually choose to initiate them through the Eternal Melody.

Thankfully they’ve managed to kill off all the forces thus far so no one has made it out to report just who is to blame for the fiends deaths. From what I understand of the tower is now in its own dimension so if they enter it and give it a month or two I think the demons would be forced to move on since there is nothing else in that cave. Either that or after this last battle Hao Yue and Rose can carry the injured and they can retreat away from the Howling Cavern a ways and find a isolated cave to hide and recuperate in.

          • Kaarme

Indeed. Sound plausible. Plus now that I think about it, both future hopes of the mankind, Haochen and Cai’er, are here on this erroneously categorised mission, so it’s likely the temples will send reinforcements of their own. They probably wouldn’t need to sit in the tower all too long before some friendly powerhouses appeared looking for them.

It’s one thing to let them grow by facing tough adversaries, but another to let them die by facing impossible odds (although the odds didn’t turn out impossible in the end, but that’s only due to Haoyue’s special attributes and the fact the necromancer made Haochen his fricking apprentice. Nobody else would have fared similarly).

          • Robin

The question is if the Alliance already noticed that it was their squad that took the mission. In the scene with the clerk it was only mentioned that a new general grade squad had accepted it as a joint mission with another, but not which squad it was. Obviously, it would make sense if the Alliance would keep watch over the activities of their golden eggs. We know that Sheng Yue accopanied Cai’er secretly during almost every step she took, and that the Aliance was ready to activate their Mythrill Knights to protect him. Hard to believe they simply stopped every supervision. Subsequencely, the probability of the Alliance sending reinforcements is rather high. It would be really embarassing for the Alliance to have such a bad monitoring of their operations.
Still they can’t be sure when and where to await the reinforcements at this point. If they enter the tower and wait, someone, probably Haochen, would need to keep a connection to the outside to notice if the Alliance draws near. And the Alliance would not know where they hide since they are in a seperate dimension. If they leave the place with their injured to hide in the mountains, they would need to keep a better watch, but would at least notice if someone advanced in their direction.

          • Jonathan Hurd

I think the probability of reinforcements being sent even without them knowing LHC and Cai’er are in that particular squad is rather high. The alliance prizes their demon hunt squads and they know they fucked up with this mission allowance. The chance of losing two General Grade Demon Hunt Squads would be an amazingly big blow to the humans side. Seems like it would be particularly smart for them to try and add extra incentives to a King Demon hunt squad (I think that was the rank this mission was meant to be) to hurry out and investigate.

Overall though the danger level hasn’t surpassed the two teams abilities as of yet. I mean even now they have taken out most of the 5th step fiends, one of the 6th step, and the 7th step guy. That was also without using LHC and his new improved abilities. I mean LHC almost killed a 6th step fiend without even bothering to fuse and considering how many times he has had to share pain with the Soul Linking Chains he wouldn’t be our MC if he isn’t rushing as fast as Hao Yue can run to get to them. Remembering Hao Yue turning all his heads to wind attribute all working together, he can run pretty damn fast. I think what will happen next is we are going to see Lin Xin take over for absorbing the next few blows and delaying. Then LHC will rush in and save the day finally. 😀 After this fight is over there is no more reasons they have to fight the demons rather than avoid them so they can rest and sneak back to the alliance relatively safely.

          • Robin

I agree, Haochen will rush to them at lightning speed. And especially with his new abilities it will be a walk in the park for him to eradicate the remaining demons. There are still Li Xin and the Daosi assassin for his support, so no biggie.

As for the Alliance, surely there would be a DHS dispatched that is actually entitled to fulfill king grade missions. The clerk speculated that a general grade squad would notice the diverging level of difficulty and be alert enough to abandon the mission halfway. In this case there would be no direct need for a rescue party to save them. They will surely send one or two more squads to the cavern sooner or later, but not necessarily to save the others, if not for their knowledge about how big the mistake they made really is: to not only let a new general grade squad but a combination of said new general grade squad and a soldier grade squad take on the job. Including the future hope of the Alliance. ^^

          • Kaarme

Haha, I think some official’s head would be rolling if they made two mistakes in a row: First classify the mission to be much easier than it is and then just shrug their shoulders when the much too weak squads headed out, thinking that surely they will notice it’s above their heads. The Assassin temple alone would get rid of the one responsible for such a decision.

However, many things could go wrong considering how deep in the demon territory they are, so it’s indeed impossible to say when and if reinforcements might appear. The reinforcements themselves might be unlucky and meet some demon powerhouse on their way.

Haochen could easily leave Haoyue to observe the situation outside of the tower. They can communicate across dimensions.

          • Robin

And I am sure that there will be consequences. As I said before regarding this, Sheng Yue and Han Quian will have puppies when they learn about this matter. The clerk was especially careless when he never even asked which other squad would accompany them. I think I remember that Haochen had to register, but the 4th squad didn’t. Therefore, there might not even be a documentation about this cooperation. Luckily the two mistakes were made by two different people. The clerk couldn’t know about the high difficulty the mission truly had. Maybe this will save him. 😉

Yeah, and the path they take to reach the cavern might be different as well. It is deep in the mountains and the surroundings surely offer many hiding spots. Also, the reinforcement can’t travel in a bigger group so far into demon territory without good camouflage or enough power to best all enemies they encounter. To wait for help is not a good option and one not befitting the most elite new DHS. I guess at best, they will meet them on their way back after accomplishing everything by themselves.

True, that would easily solve the problem. A magical beast wouldn’t raise too much attention and in case of danger Haochen could simply summon him into the tower.

          • Jonathan Hurd

I have to admit the most epic part of this journey might come at the end when they finally return and show they succeeded in their first mission and that mission was actually ranked as King level, Lol. I swear someones head should be rolling if they do not at least get the revised reward. All things considered I think they should get both the revised and old rewards combined, imo.

On terms of the reinforcements speed I think they could make some fairly good ground thinking about what it probably requires to be a King level Demon Hunt Squad. We know currently everyone has to be 5th step for General and I would guess that trend keeps for the future ranks. Everyone in a King Squad would at least be 6th step if not 7th step then, I would assume. So they can at least make wings and replenish their energy actively as they rush. I assume that the main reason why Demon Hunt Squads stop bothering going with the neutral merchants is because they are strong and fast enough to get around demon territory by themselves at that point and escape most situations that do not involve a Demon God. That and they would probably stand out a bit too much among the neutral merchants.

          • Jonathan Hurd

Yeah, the main reason I feel they might send the reinforcements is because they realize it was their own screw up that has led to this situation, and they haven’t gotten word back from those two teams so I am sure higher ups must be worried. Its one thing for people to bite off more than they can chew. It is a whole other thing to feed people bad intel and have them try to make judgments from that information.

          • Robin

You are right. They should take responsibility not only in form of contribution points but also in form of support. It is likely that they send some people out to aks around and carefully inquire about the squads and if they have returned. But they can’t inquire too openly past the human borders. The Alliance will probably see that the new king grade mission will be accepted fast, so they can add the task to search for the other two squads on their way there. This way they can avoid sending big groups far into enemy territory aside from the ones who will tackle the mission, and still provide support to them. I am not so sure how long such a mission would usually take but given the huge distance they have to cover in the demon territory there will be a certain time during which they would be unable to contact the Alliance even if there were no problems. And since the two squads did not cross the border via a check point there will not be much information available about theirr moves. My point is, that there might be no reason yet for the Alliance to panic solely based on the fact that they were not contacted by the two squads yet.

    Thanks for the chapter! 🙂

  • Robin

    I love this sentence:
Making use of her strength to keep everyone alive was undoubtedly her duty as Long Haochen’s girlfriend.
Isn’t it cute that she thinks it her duty to protect his companions because she is his girlfriend and not mainly because she is the vice captain?
They are giving the demons a good fight but with such a dire situation they could still go down with flying colours.

    • Blaxus

Me too, mainly because this is the first time the word ‘girlfriend’ actually came from her own thoughts 🙂 . I mean we always knew they were at bakauple status but now we truly get the feeling of it being official.

      • Robin

I agree, although they skipped some steps in between, since Haochen already called her parents mother and father-in-law. It seems like they already have him included in their family register. 😉
It is hellish cute when even leader Gao comments on their status as a couple and the Knight Temple tries to play matchmaker. But you are right, the true couple feeling is only emerging now after she used the term. ^_^

        • Jonathan Hurd

I am happy for them officially becoming a couple. Honestly I was afraid this step would only happen after LHC defeated a freaking Demon God with how he progresses the relationship. Speaking of which what do you think Cai’er is going to get for defending the team and killing a 7th step demon? A kiss finally? I would say after she gets back her hearing, sight, and taste though T.T.

          • Robin

Well, she can’t see, hear or speak now. So generally she is even more uncommunicative for a while. 😉
The only way she can communicate will be through writing signs on one’s hand, like she did with Haochen before. And despite her special abilities, even she should be seriously handicapped now. My guess is that Haochen will care for her dotingly. She will have to ride on Haoyue for further safety, and Haochen will keep her close to his side. Since she can only feel, he should at least kiss her to tell her how glad he is that she survived. This would be the fastest way to express his feelings in this situation.

          • Jonathan Hurd

I am curious if they are going to try to get back home or if they might just rest in Hao Chen’s brand new tower. Considering that the other teams warrior’s arms are broken, a majority of their team is exhausted, and a good deal of the front line has lost their weapons. The drain from this fight is going to be pretty extreme and need quite a few days of peace and quiet not even counting Cai’er’s state from the aftermath of her Spiritual Stoves use.

          • Robin

I wondered about that as well. Natrually it would be a possibility. The tower bears its own risks, but Haochen is fresh and healthy so he should be able to protect the others.
On the other hand, the longer they stay in the cavern, the higher the chance for even more powerful foes to arrive. When they learn that not only their first Fiend battalion, but also the reinforcement AND the Fiend Cavalry with one Fiend Lord at the seventh step and two powerhorses of the 6th step were wiped out, the demons are bound to send even more forces there. I doubt that without a really long time of recuperation the two squads will be able to fight their way through such a siege if no reinforcement from the Alliance should arrive.
Of course, Haochen could use this time to pass some more tests in the tower and get even stronger. Nevertheless, I am not sure this would be the wises of choices.

          • Jonathan Hurd

I definitely agree staying where they are after this battle is not really an option. Though one thing to keep in mind is that the ones who opened hostilities this time was LHC’s team to try and protect him. Without LHC in the cave there is no need for a direct confrontation with the demons anymore. I would say that getting a bit farther away is still a great idea. Too many fiends have died near this cave to not set anyone showing up there completely on edge. Even if they put on their Moon Demon Clan costumes the Fiends might guess that the Moon Clan is trying to steal the honor and credit from them and therefore killed their forces.

          • Sarlisark

May I ask why should she not be able to speak? The stove takes away her senses not the organs, so the tongue represents her tastebuds not her ability to speak, otherwise her ears would also represent her sense of balance which is part of the ear, and without that she could basically do nothing especially if she can’t even hear and see. So she is still able to talk, fight(though LHC won’t allow it), smell and feel so they could have an epic kiss, though without sound and taste sth. would definitely be missing

          • Robin

When they first met she was not able to talk due to the Stove of Samsara. It is not explicitely said, but it would be logical that she has to sacrifice one of the major senses for such a power outburst, and not only her sense of taste like the last time she used her stove in a less flashy way. I think we will learn the truth during the next chaps.

        • Blaxus

          Long Cai’er 🙂

          • Robin

            I like that sound. ^__^
I am quite curious how Haochen’s side of the family will react. I am sure his father will be equally pleased as grandpa Han.

          • Blaxus

Of course he will. “That’s my boy! Slay em!”

    Thx for this chapter.
Since I’d never seen that and as a french, the two ads inside the text block my reading. Could they been remove?
I already click sometimes on the ads, but them i just want to close them out.

    • Robin

There are no adds in the textblock. Or at least not visible for me, and I don’t use adblock. Maybe your screen settings moved them there. Since they should be on the right side of the screen, maybe they will vanish if you reload?

      • amdrago

If i had to make an explaining guess, i could tell it’s because i’m a phone reader ( my screen is small, the ads are huge!).

And more than all , the chapters are nice so it’s frustrating (in a bad way) to need a whole minute to clear the path. (I wish to can use some of the paths of Samsara to make things simple but if i dont have my eyes i couldn’t read more….. 😉 )

        • Robin

Okay, a phone reader, I didn’t think about this possibility. Then your situation surely is different. Can you also change the size of the presented text? Maybe you can enlarge the text to push the ads out of your screen area. Sorry, but I don’t have any other idea aside from this or using adblock. I am sure Toto would understand it if it hems your reading flow that much.

thank you very much for the chapter

  • anon

As badass as Cai’er is, it’s pretty depressing to know that she has to lose her senses in order to carry out those moves whereas LHC barely gets hurt and can recover within a couple days.

    • Jonathan Hurd

I agree the price is pretty high but consider the difference in damage between Cai’er’s all out attack and LHC’s. I mean it took every last drop of energy LHC had to kill a 7th step enemy at the earliest ranks of the 7th step. Cai’er on the other hand has only used 3 of the 6 paths of Samsara, and the third one might not have been necessary, to kill a 7th step guy at least in the middle ranks alone. Add in that she has lower Internal Spiritual Energy than LHC and doesn’t have an elemental fairies support. The cost is high, but she honestly has attack power that can more than eclipse LHC’s.

      • Robin

She definitely is more powerful. Haochen had Haoyue’s support (I don’t think you can simply add the strength of the mount to the knight’s strength), and Cai’er attacked as well. Now she has killed an advanced 7th step demon on her own. That’s awfully mighty!
I think she wanted to be absolutely sure that he is dead because she knew that she wouldn’t be able to help the others if he by any chance survived her attack. But the 3rd paths was probably not needed to kill the Fiend.
I doubt that Haochen would have been able to pull this feat.

        • Jonathan Hurd

To be fair LHC killed the Scarlet Beserk demon with just him and Hao Yue and no one else’s fighting power. He did have to use Yating going full force and his Sword, but that could be considered fair since Cai’er used her Dagger and Spiritual Stove of Samsara. The big thing to remember about their power difference is fusing with Hao Yue makes LHC a 6th step. So he killed someone one step above him. Cai’er killed someone 2 steps above her and she could still go further O.o.

          • lili_smith

Why are we even comparing them? For comparison’s sake, is that it? Cause we already heard from the horse’s mouth himself, (Cai’er’s), that Long Haochen’s glory is her glory and vice-versa so whoever is more powerful with the least amount of additional weapons or side effects after battle, matters not. All that matters is that she called herself Long Haochen’s girlfriend in this chapter and I’m so excited about that.

          • Robin

It is only a funny thought. They still compete in a certain way with each other because each of them wants to protect the other best. Therefore, they are eager to cultivate. It is only a simple mind game to pass time to compare them both, and their achievements. The author started it in a way when he gave us the numbers of their respective strength. Since we don’t know their ultimate strength it is even more interesting to guess.

          • Jonathan Hurd

You are exactly right that as a team all of their efforts go towards helping the whole. Admittedly we can still compare their achievements towards that whole, but at the end of the day we should never forget that all their efforts are for the team. I do enjoy the growth we have seen from Cai’er in that regard. At the start she didn’t really care about anyone other than LHC. It shows amazing progress that she is willing to risk her life to not only help LHC, but also the team. Also her admitting to being LHC’s girlfriend is adorable.

I would say the main reason we are currently focusing on the others efforts for the team and comparing is that for so many other battles the one sacrificing his/herself for the team has always been LHC. It is interesting to see others try and see how far they can get in comparison to LHC. It helps put LHC’s efforts and power into perspective.

    Thank you very much Totobro!

  • Bob JAne

    Thanks for the chapter! 😀

  • Jonathan Hurd

First off Thanks for the chapter Toto, 😀

Just gotta say the Spiritual Stove of Samsara takes an eye for an eye interestingly literally.

Also looking forward to Lin Xin’s all out defense. Go show those nonbelievers in 4th Soldier DHS what your made of and why you deserve your position!

  • Anto Wibowo

Time to make an entrance i guess.
    Thank you for the chapter!

  • AnarchyDev

Poor Caier… Where’s the main MC?
    Thx for the chapter

  • ZaX

That is one double edge stove. Thanks for the chapter

Sima’s best quote ever “I’m a man.” I can feel the manliness oozing off him.

    • Robin

Although he didn’t manage to hold out for very long. Even Yuanyuan beat him to the count. But it is the spirit that counts.

      • Jonathan Hurd

To be fair he still threw himself in front of the blows and that is what counts. 😀

        • Robin

As I said, the spirit is what counts. And he did it to provide her a little longer with his protection, which is very honorable. 😉

          • Jonathan Hurd

To also be fair she has a giant legendary shield to block attacks with. He has a staff that snapped.

          • Robin

You really like to be fair, do you? 😛
Yes, in this situation their original vocations surface. She is in the end a shield warrior and he only a priest. Although their specialities lie elsewhere, they can’t deny where they started from.

          • Jonathan Hurd

Oh definitely, mainly the big difference I would say is rooted in their equipment. That shield has helped carry her a little further over other people. I think they both responded and blocked in a similar fashion. Meeting power with power to the best of their abilities. Its just that Sima Xian and Han Yu are only using equipment around the magical tier while Wang Yuanyuan’s shield is close to epic. Still all that put aside it takes a lot of bravery to jump in front of the kind of attacks they are enduring especially without a strong defensive skill like Divine Obstruction to supplement.

          • Robin

It definitely takes courage. Sima Xian has a heroic spirit and he has also feelings for Yuanyuan so two really good motivations to take this kind of action. His staff was not meant to resist such attacks or be used for this kind of defense. At his core he ist still a priest whose main capacity is support. As a shield warrior not only the tier of her equipment, but also the nature of her weapon enables her to do a better job. My comment about her besting him was not completely meant in earnest, just a little mocking of his obvious male statement. I like her reaction because she is not the typical female but someone who only respects others if their actions match with her own set of morale and behavioral codes.

          • Jonathan Hurd

I do have to admit I like her character. She respects strength. I think part of the strength Sima Xian displayed was not only staving off three attacks but also his willingness to face them. I like how every person in the 21st General Grade Demon Hunt Squad has shown a willingness to sacrifice to protect their allies.

  • Cyrs

Since they have all taken heavy damage, LHC has no choice but to bring everyone into the tower now.

    • Robin

I am not so sure if this is the wisest choice. What if they are besieged within the cavern after entering the tower?

      • Jonathan Hurd

I think the tower has technically left the cavern. From what it said a few chapters ago the tower seemed to be sucked into a black hole leaving the cave empty.

        • Robin

Yes, but we don’t know yet if he is still situated in the cavern, only hidden within another dimension so that it can be summoned there by Haochen, or if it “acccompanies” Haochen and can be summoned everywhere and/or entered from anywhere. In my opinion the second doesn’t make sense. It would be too convenient to have access to the tower wherever he is and whenever he wants. This immense power up should have some downsides like in him needing to go to the cavern to use it, or it would be too big an advantage. I don’t know how you feel about it, but I wouldn’t like that.
And if the tower is still bound to the cavern, as long as the cavern is guarded by demons, they would be besieged, no matter if the demons can see/enter the tower or not.

          • Jonathan Hurd

I kind of agree that if he can use the Eternal Melody to instantly teleport out of any danger it might be a little too much, but I don’t think the power to teleport to the tower is inherently overpowered. The tower mainly represents a giant chance for him to gain experience and power through effort and the trials. What will decide how much LHC gets out of it will be his efforts within the tower so I’m not too afraid that having the tower itself is overpowered. I mean considering that he has barely passed the first trial and the tower was setup under the assumption he was a 7th step Necro to start its just going to get harder.

The author pretty solidly sticks to the idea that there are no free meals in his stories. Every power up I have seen with his characters involves an excruciating pain, extreme amount of time loss to accomplish, or rigorous training and effort on the characters part. For example, LHC got the power up for his Light Elemental Spiritual Stove after focusing and fusing with it for about 50 days. He can fight at the level he does with such fine tuned sense because he spent years fighting in the Ant cave. For transformations Cai’er spent 2 years in a Coma and endured painful trials of being deprived of her senses to gain what she has.

In general I would say from the tech we know of thus far it seems fairly plausible that he can teleport to the tower in its alternative dimension. I would guess the tower potentially could work like the alliances Treasure Trove does. You use a portal to relocate to a preexisting dimension. There will probably be some form of ritual that needs to be done to open that portal so it probably won’t be able to be used in live battle if he can teleport to it.

Personally I don’t really feel there is much good that will come out of rooting the tower. Story wise it makes more sense to me that Elux who knows Necromancers are persecuted by the Church could potentially be hunted. Therefore I think he would try to set it up that his disciple would not have a physical location he would have to return to since it could be camped and that disciple could be jumped. If we are considering it from the story as well it isn’t really that hard for LHC to get back to the tower considering his Moon Demon Noble disguises. Now that the tower has physically vanished and there is nothing else of interest in the cave there will not be these giant packs of Fiends going around on a mission near the cave. Considering as well how the first Fiend pack responded to seeing LHC’s emblem even if there are groups around they can easily be told to mind their own business and be brushed off. I mean the main reason LHC’s team has fought so many times is mainly because their and the demons objectives were the same. If there is nothing in the cave for anyone but LHC’s team no real worries anymore.

      • Cyrs

I suspect LHC and Haoyue will kill all the fiends before entering the tower. Plus, staying in the entrance of the cave would be more dangerous…since they don’t know when more enemies might appear. Especially now that the hissing sound waves have stopped. Even with the healing abilities of the group, it will take some time for everyone to recover. And when everyone else recovers, there is still Cai’er. She has lost 3 senses, it might take a month or more for her to recover. I doubt LHC will travel behind enemy lines with Cai’er like this, and they can’t spend a month or more in the open.

As such, I feel a function of the pendant (eternal melody), or the tower will come into play here. Either LHC will enter the tower with everyone, or reactivate the “hissing” to ward of demons (the former seems more secure than the latter). Plus, the second option only works if LHC can make his teammates immune to the sound waves, or protect them from it somehow.

        • Robin

Of course, they will kill all the attacking Fiends. But there will come more to investigate the cavern and why the others didn’t retunr. Remember, the demon forces are legion. They only have two options. 1) finish the fight and enter the tower as a sealed shelter to recuperate -> including the need to probably fight their way out after they are back to their optimal condition or 2) finish the fight and leave the cavern and the mountains to hide somewhere for a first rest -> in this case they would probably try to travel back towards the Alliance as soon as most of them have recuperated.
Oh, and 3) the author pulls a joker and surprises us all. 😉

          • Cyrs

Now that is has come to this, I’m placing my bets on #3. If the tower is fixed in it’s location with no teleport ability…I don’t doubt that they will have to fight their way out, when they wish to leave again. Even if LHC were to reactivate the hissing noise, demons will still send soldiers to investigate (maybe more 7th step demons). That seems ridiculously dangerous for a bunch of 5th/4th step demon hunters. As for leaving the mountains entirely, it depends on how long it takes for them to recover. They won’t get far with such injuries, and the chance of encountering more demons before reaching safety is high.

          • Robin

I agree with you. But still I would probably choose to leave the area around the cavern. Haochen can heal some of the injuries and Lin Xi probably has replenishing pills for Luc Xi, so he can help with the healing. Haoyue can carry some of the severely injured to help them cover a bigger distance. We don’t know what exactly Elux included in the knowledge he gifted to Haochen but as he had only very little time to explore the tower, he probably can’t judge the risk it may bring to enter it unprepared. And he surely won’t risk to endanger Cai’er further.

  • Marko Bandur

Here we go, time to shine for our drug brother^^
I really hope LHC will came at least after some solo defense of lin xin, and then, team up with the leftovers of the 2dhs xD

    • Robin

You will love the next chap. ^__^

    • Jonathan Hurd

Team up nothing. LHC versus all… FIGHT! But first we do need drug brother to have his moment to shine. No one shall doubt Drug Brother after this!

  • k1nk4

    thanks for the chapter!
