Shen Yin Wang Zuo, Chapter 245

Shen Yin Wang Zuo, Chapter 245: Eternal Melody (II)

It evolved? Long Haochen still remembered what the Knight Temple’s Hall Master and Chief of the Alliance Yang Haohan told him, that Blue Rain, Hibiscus of Light’s greatest characteristic was its capability to evolve. Could it be that after only a few months time, as the Saint Spiritual Stove had been nurtured, it actually had been completing its first evolution?

Looking at the fluctuations of light essence released by Blue Rain, Hibiscus of Light, Long Haochen could be certain that this sword was now at least at the level of a Glorious Tier weapon, or possibly even higher.

Rather than the Holy Spirit Sword in his right hand which only let out a faint white gloss, Long Haochen almost automatically chose to use Blue Rain, Hibiscus of Light. This action signified that he chose to abandon the utility of the Holy Spirit Set. Henceforth Blue Rain, Hibiscus of Light become his main weapon, as he decided to stop using the Holy Spirit Set as a whole.

He obviously made this choice because Blue Rain, Hibiscus of Light had more utility than a whole Holy Spirit Set.

Vast amount of knowledge was passed on to Long Haochen through the Pendant of Eternal Melody, but to get practical experience in this Tower of Eternity, he had a single choice: to keep going forward.

Not riding on Haoyue, Long Haochen advanced with a pair of swords at hand. Each step of his was slow and steady, as he focused his senses on the possible danger arriving from any direction.

First step, second step, third step…

Just four steps after passing the location where he got this Eternal Melody, Long Haochen suddenly came to a stop and, waving the swords in his hands, he looked forward.

Two white glows shot from his back without any warning, and immediately, two massive figures appeared before his eyes out of nowhere.

These lights were two gigantic skeletons, surrounded by a white halo and filled at the same time with an aura of death and holy aura.

The two human-shaped skeletons were approximately 2.5 meters tall, had pure white bones, and three layered golden rings around them, which were against all expectations Faith Halos, Imposing Halos and Courage Halos that Long Haochen was very familiar with. As they wielded a bone shield with their left hand and a bone sword with their right hand, their eyes were filled with a golden flame, just like the Pendant Eternal Melody, but without its purity.

Bang, bang, bang…. Exploding sounds could be heard as the skeletons stepped forward, and they directly jumped at Long Haochen, instantly breaking out with an important oppressing strength. What they used was actually pretty similar to charging techniques used by humans.

Long Haochen used the Nine Long Footsteps Stances, swerving to the left side with a sideways step. It was so that he wouldn’t get hit by the two skeletons’ attacks from different directions.

Holding the Holy Spirit Sword in his left hand horizontally, he launched Divine Obstruction.

Bang!

A strong exploding sound reverberated as Long Haochen was pushed back three steps, even after using Divine Obstruction, barely standing firm.

How powerful!

Although Long Haochen didn’t know what level his own internal spiritual energy had reached, he still sensed that after obtaining the Pendant of Eternal Melody, it passed the threshold of 3,500. That this skeleton managed to push him back in such a situation meant that its internal spiritual energy was at least above 7,000 or 8,000. And this was the first test of the Tower of Eternity!

The second skeleton didn’t attack Long Haochen, but aimed its attack at Haoyue, looking straight at him.

With a white glow, the skeleton forcibly closed the distance, and as it was still at a meter away from Haoyue, it suddenly turned toward Long Haochen’s direction, precisely because of the Saint Spiritual Stove’s effects. And from beginning to end, Haoyue seemed as though he hadn’t seen it, his three heads focused on chanting an incantation. This was the level of trust between Long Haochen and Haoyue.

Dong. Another collision rang, this time from an attack launched by Long Haochen. As the Holy Spirit Sword parried a blow, Blue Rain, Hibiscus of Light drew power from Bright Vengeance’s amplification, aiming at the human skeleton that attacked him. The skeleton waved the shield in its left hand, parrying the latter’s blow along with an intense exploding sound.

After evolution, Blue Rain, Hibiscus of Light was completely different. This last blow came with a scrape of bright light, leaving an inch long trace on it.

Charging, Long Haochen suddenly stepped to the side, getting out of the way of the skeleton’s attack pulled by the Saint Spiritual Stove, and as he turned sideways, a Light Thorn was aimed horizontally.

Immediately, Blue Rain, Hibiscus of Light shone with a golden blaze, and a sharp sword intent simultaneously erupted. Only, this was clearly not enough to frighten these two skeletons, that held their shields horizontally, releasing a Holy Filter Shield-like ability to welcome the Light Thorn fired by Long Haochen.

At this time, Haoyue’s spell was finally completed, launching a large wind edge, a light thorn and fireball aiming at a skeleton’s knees, exactly the one who was the target of Long Haochen’s Attraction spell.

These two skeletons possessing holy attribute were even more troublesome than Long Haochen imagined. The targeted one had even the awareness of having been locked down by Haoyue’s magic, without a single glance. Suddenly crouching down, it used its shield to parry the attack.

With three loud collisions, Long Haochen saw to his shock that the skeleton’s body let out a bright golden color. That was to say, it relied on Divine Obstruction to parry Long Haochen’s attack. And the other skeleton went at Long Haochen at fast speed.

A spotlessly white bone shone, filled with a sacred radiance. To Long Haochen’s surprise, it was Holy Sword, which was aimed directly at him.

Suppressed to this degree on the spiritual energy side, Long Haochen didn’t dare to use Condemning Revolving Sword, because this skeleton would be able to rely on its spiritual energy’s superiority to forcefully interrupt the skill.

Buzz.

A fog of light was suddenly released from Blue Rain, Hibiscus of Light, and Long Haochen did a blocking motion, using Divine Obstruction like before.

Bang–

Facing the Holy Sword of this skeleton, Long Haochen surprisingly managed to block it without being pushed a step back.

Furthermore, on that skeleton’s bones, a little gap had appeared. Without managing to push the bone sword back, he relied on Blue Rain, Hibiscus of Light, to attack on the side, violently striking the ground.

This ground was made of some impressive material, to show no trace of damage, only a little spark, upon taking on such a powerful Holy Sword as this skeleton’s.

A resonant dragon cry burst forth from Long Haochen’s body. Intertwining Blue Rain as well as the Holy Spirit Sword, he used the offensive Retribution Knight technique of the fifth step, Ascending Dragon Strike. And that dragon cry carried a bizarre buzzing sound.

At that moment, it was the skeleton that was at a disadvantage. The bone sword was used, only to be pushed back to the ground. This blow of Long Haochen’s could be said to be perfectly orchestrated.

Hastily, the skeleton could only use its bone shield to block Long Haochen’s attack, letting out an ear-piercing boom. This time, it was the skeleton that was violently struck by Long Haochen, and at the time it stood up again, half its shield was already destroyed.

To Long Haochen, the most important use of this strike was the boost of confidence he gained from it. It was for a single reason that he was able to stop the opponent’s powerful attack in addition to breaking his shield, which was the Ripples of Light.

When he combined Divine Obstruction along with the control of the light elemental waves with Ripples of light, not only was the defensive power strengthened by a lot, but it also had an additional effect of stealing power, which was why this skeleton’s Holy Sword wasn’t completed when it clashed against Blue Rain, Hibiscus of Light.

Even Long Haochen himself didn’t think that the combination between Blue Rain, Hibiscus of Light and Ripples of Light would turn out so powerful. Although this skeleton’s fighting strength was great, its defense fell short in comparison. It was just like himself at the time he didn’t have any good equipment.

The other skeleton didn’t get in Long Haochen’s way, it was busy resisting the attacks of Haoyue, that he launched after his first three successive spells were blocked.

His massive figure leapt forward, and though each spell launched by itself wasn’t so strong, the three were in fact launched simultaneously.

Resisting Ring of Fire of the fire element, Ripples of Light of the light element and Wind Gale of the wind element.

These three spells had a single goal, to attack. Even that skeleton that possessed Divine Obstruction, the mortal asset of a knight, could only fall a few steps back under the effects of those three spells used offensively. And this was what gave Long Haochen enough time.

A strong sunlight fire burst forth from Blue Rain, Hibiscus of Light, and the high frequencies of Ripples of Light gave it an exquisite appearance.

Assault, Shining Sunlight Strike.

Without a doubt, Shining Sunlight Strike couldn’t compare to Holy Sword in terms of power, but unlike an ability that needed time to be prepared like Holy Sword, Long Haochen could already complete it instantly with his current cultivation.

The intricacies of his abilities were exquisite; in fact, combining Shining Sunlight Strike and Sunlight Fire wasn’t in the scope of any Retribution Knight’s ability, but Long Haochen was the son of the Divine Knight of Adjudication, Long Xingyu.

With two massive glints of intense sunlight, Long Haochen’s two swords disappeared in an instant as the lustrous sunlight fire formed two orbs of sunfire, carrying a blazing holy aura that intensified dramatically.

At this time, the difference in equipment between the two parties became distinct. In comparison to the interweaved use of sunlight fire and Shining Sunlight Strike, Holy Sword even fell short by twofold

Houu! The skeleton didn’t wait helplessly for its death, and with a bellow, the golden flames in its eyes suddenly increased sharply, and its body was covered with a layer of golden flames, as the skeleton violently abandoned the shield in its left hand. As the skeleton waved its sword with the two hands, in that instant, the air surrounding it was gathered at fast speed, producing suction in Long Haochen’s direction. That terrible blow provoked a hissing sound in the air, and the bone sword turned a brilliant golden color. Against all expectations, this strike’s power caused even Long Haochen to feel helpless and almost unable to block it.

This strike felt to Long Haochen like it could split Heavens and Earth, and the most terrifying aspect wasn’t its attack power, but the oppressive force it had, forcing Long Haochen to stake everything to go against it.

    You nicely translate this.

I can’t be the only one who finds the Special Moves a little distracting in this story >_<

    • special moves?

      • Luke Confidential

Ascending Dragon Strike, Instant Blast Cross Cut, Divine Obstruction, etc etc etc.

        • Eh, many people have been praising my naming sense though :(.

          • Luke Confidential

Your naming sense is pretty awesome Toto.

It was a reference to the Author’s decision, not your work in translating it lol.

          • Jonathan Hurd

I will admit if the author would be a little better about explaining the abilities effects the first time they are used that would help me a little bit. Still trying to figure out exactly what Final Gambit does as an ability. Also, I personally enjoy the names. 😀

          • It’s like a soft version of Sacrifice, I’d say (if I don’t remember wrong)

    • Robin

At least it is one hell of a lightshow. ^-^

    • Rengel Sia

I also find these skeleton skills distracting. It doesn’t match LHC. But if Yating can perform the same spells as LHC, as mentioned in the previous chapters, then There wouldn’t be any need for LHC to do the summons if ever.

  • Stephen_H

Happy New Year Totobro, Thanks for the chapter!
I am wondering, if the recording orb is still working…?

  • ackehece

Everyone was talking death knight, death knight. Now we meet two Holy Dead Guardian Knights….. they have the halo’s and the holy sword ability…

    • Luke Confidential

      Not all of us.

      • ackehece

True… but I somehow think you’ve read ahead :). There were many that said haoyue would also be the necromancer, and speculated that LHC would be the sidekick for this adventure. I think it obvious now that LHC will be the holy necromancer and it will be a serious secret. Calling undead holy knights is plenty scary, being that they are not evil. This story has a tenuous contact with the concept of evil anyhow – one of their most revered professions is assassin

        • Robin

Only that the assassins in this story are not evil. Or at least not in general. 😉
This was one argument for me that the same could be valid for necromancers. Of course, there can alwys be bad ones within. But this is the same with all other vocations.

          • Jonathan Hurd

Still somewhat curious what Cai’er’s Elemental affinity is and if it is darkness, but yeah there are no evil jobs, imo. That is one of the things I enjoy about this novel is that there are no people who are evil just for the sake of being evil. Everyone has reasons and motivations behind their actions and sometimes those conflict with other peoples goals.

Also now that we know that Holy Skeletons exist who else wants LHC to go back to Hao Yue’s world and fight another Litch but this time he fights the army of dark skeleton’s with an army of light skeletons…. Commander LHC, Wooh!

        • Luke Confidential

Wait… why on earth are assassins supposedly evil? Assassins are neutral in general [they provide a service for payment. The evil person is the one who hired them.]

As for claims that I have read ahead, I haven’t the foggiest clue about sunrunes whatsoever, and only the most faint slight hazy clue about moonrunes.

          • Robin

Sunrunes and moonrunes? Nice description. I don’t think anyone here spoils by sharing information that is not already released. And Tony is really attentive regarding spoilers.
Aren’t we all throwing wild guesses ond hopeful theories around? 😉

          • Luke Confidential

            Sunrunes = Chinese characters
            Moonrunes = Japanese Kanji

I suspect they’re actually the same characters with slight differences in meaning between locations, but not certain on that.

          • Robin

First time seeing this naming but I like it. The tricky part of kanji are the many meanings. And the different sounds they can stand for in combination with other kanji or katakana and hiragana. At my best times I knew about 200 simple kanjis, could write them and knew their meaning like the kanji for man or woman. But to write and read them in a text is a completely different matter altogether. And they are so similar to each other that you easily lose track once you stop practicing them. Now I almost forgot all of them. ^^°

No wonder necromancers are feared if skeletons could be that strong and use techniques. Thanks for the chapter

    • Luke Confidential

Bear in mind those skeletons were likely made by a 9th step Necro.

  • ZaX

No wonder necromancers are feared if skeletons could be that strong and use techniques. Thanks for the chapter

    • Luke Confidential

Bear in mind those skeletons were likely made by a 9th step Necro.

      • Jonathan Hurd

Still to be fair these skeletons have also probably been toned down since they are the first trial meant to test a 6th step necromancer. Makes you wonder what him going all out would look like.

        • Luke Confidential

Actually when I think about it, these things bear a great deal of resemblance to the Skeleton King that LHC fought in Austin Griffin’s world. Except Holy Skills.

          • Jonathan Hurd

I know right? My dream is that we see LHC have to fight another Litch like last time but this time its skeleton army versus skeleton army. Only difference is that LHC would lead his skeletons form the front while the Litch supported his from the back.

          • Robin

Elux said that there are dark necromancers which he detests, and holy necromancers. He decisively warned Haochen off never to bring a dark one into his tower, probably out of fear something similar to the situation in Haoyue’s world could happen.
The question is: if Haoyue, alias Austin Griffon really caused the situation in his old world, he should, or let’s rather say could be a powerful dark necromancer, right?

          • Jonathan Hurd

I don’t think Hao Yue would have to be a necromancer to cause what happened to his world. If anything I would think if he was a powerful Necromancer he would have an easier time dealing with them. I think what might have happened in their world is his power was so immense that he overpowered all the other elements in the world and drenched it in darkness attribute. I kind of feel the reason there are so many undead in Hao Yue’s world now is either evolution to survive, the last resort of the humans who could not escape, or it could honestly be a side effect of what happened to the humans corpses that were drenched in such heavy darkness attribute. The final one seems kind of interesting to me now that I think about it more. I mean we found out that LHC could change someones element by drenching them in his blood because it contained such pure light essence and it was only possible for him to do so because there was such high purity. Austin Griffin was able to drench the entire planet in darkness attribute so what might have happened is all the humans left behind had their elements forcibly changed to darkness and becoming undead was a side effect.

I think Elux dislikes dark necromancers probably because they are stereotypical and the opposite of his element. I get the feeling that this Tower of his is kind of running on auto pilot to a certain degree. So that is why he gave the warning about bringing someone with dark element into it since the tower runs on Light element it might just autonomously respond against them.

          • Robin

I am curious how it will turn out. But if Austin Griffon would have had such a powerful darkness attribute, it is interesting that Haochen could change it so “easily” comparatively. But regarding the changing part: don’t forget what the DG did after entering the human realm. They turned every living creature in a certain scope into demons.

Yeah, the auto pilot impression came to me as well. Maybe it is similar as with Haoyue after his summon. If he had left the summoning area without being cleansed, he would have suffered backlash and died.

          • Jonathan Hurd

I get the feeling that this tower has some pretty advanced self defenses considering the wailing souls it had outside and those were just intended to test people entering. Think about what this tower could do to people it really wanted to get rid of. O.o

There is a possibility that I am overthinking them being darkness attribute and maybe in Hao Yue’s world they naturally were all dark. They obviously had the technology to jump dimensions maybe they also had the power to become undead as a last resort. The thing that makes me curious is that we know Austin Griffin will reincarnate a set number of times and that one of his previous incarnations destroyed the world, but how did this cycle start? I think that is the biggest question we have yet to be answered. Considering they do have the tech to take over creatures and convert them to allies maybe what Austin Griffin was and did was in a similar idea. Maybe he was intended to be used to make worlds better for them by increasing the darkness attribute but it worked too well and destroyed all other life which they needed to live off of. Would be pretty interesting if it turns out Austin Griffin was a bio weapon gone rogue.

          • Luke Confidential

I’m starting to get the impression Austin Griffin may be a force of nature, a natural world-ending phenomenon intended to wipe things over and start from scratch upon his final evolution.

*Somthing* went wrong last time, and instead of a clean wipe we got a world of darkness and death and the undead residents have been preventing a wipe ever since.

Upon Austin Griffin’s final evolution, LHC will be forced to destroy or at least banish his best friend to save the world.

          • Luke Confidential

I don’t know that I’d call it easily. Wasn’t the bloodloss almost enough to put LHC unconscious?

Furthermore, although the raw potential is the same regardless the phase, it seems logical that it would be FAR more pliable at the infant stage LHC first met Austin Griffin than later on.

          • Robin

Thats what the quotation marks are for. My comment was not to be taken literally. It was not really a walk in the park but it was feasible.
Of course there is a deeper bond since Haochen raised the little Haoyue and gave him love and care from hour one. He forged the mind and the character of Haoyue more than his development of strength. In this regard Haoyue takes charge and Haochen only gives support.

  • Rengel Sia

If the recording orb LHC was carrying was still active, then would that mean everyone will eventually find out that LHC was now associated with a necromancer? I wonder if he will get hated by the alliance (Radiant Church) after such. Any speculations?

    • Luke Confidential

I have seen absolutely zero true religious themes [aside from the fact the member units of the Alliance are Temples] in the Alliance whatsoever.

I strongly suspect the Radiant Church went into hiding and the Alliance was forged from the remaining strength of humanity.

  • Sultan Izzuddin

I am not getting email notifications 🙁

    • Robin

It is temporarily deactivated. Toto wrote so some chaps back. I think it is related to the server troubles and happened while he was solving the problem of the server crashs after release. But luckily we can all await a chapter every day for some days, so just check in the evening around 22h.

      • Sultan Izzuddin

Ohk thanks for letting me know

        • Robin

          You are welcome. ^.^

  • Mr. White

    Thx for the chap

  • Murilo Denech Longue

i am thinking that LHC will tell the alliance about the necromancer. and so the alliance will make LHC or pass the cultivation method of necromancer, or will want he to make the necromacer temple and make him stop training as Knight and became a necromancer. the only thing i don’t know is if a person can chance his/her “class”.

and know if the alliance knows about the necromancer maybe they will “erase” his cultivation and he will be exiled from the temple alliance. and became a necromancer in the demon territory.

    • Jonathan Hurd

I don’t think the Temple Alliance could afford to lose LHC especially considering he is the first ever seen Scion of Light and Long Xingyu’s son. Also considering the Temple Alliances current situation it seems likely that they can’t be too choosy about what methods they use to gain power. I mean think about it, the Necromancers fought by themselves against the majority of the powerhouses in the world and still managed to deal serious damage. If the Temple Alliance could gain power on that level that would be a major boost against the demons.

My guess is he talks to his teacher first and they go from there. I don’t think there is any reason why LHC should stop learning more knight abilities. He probably has the mental capacity to use the Necromancer spells, Retribution Knight, and Guardian Knight abilities together and at the right time.

A problem with erasing LHC’s cultivation is I think it actually seals your power meaning you can’t add to it anymore. At least that is the feeling I got from Han Yu’s Grandpa when he was offering that option to Han Yu.

      • Robin

I completely agree with everything you said, Jonathan. They would never cripple Haochen, and not only because of the retribution Cai’er, Haoyue or his father would demand in such a case. Aside from the protection of the necromancer he just gained. I think even his teacher would not go along with such a step. Ultimately, Haochen is like a son to him. ^^
The Alliance can’t afford to lose him or restrain his cultivation in any way. What they can, and probably will do, is limit his use and/or the destribution of the necromancer abilities. Such a power can be a treasure but only if used wisely. The history has shown that a too powerful force can lead to infighting and destroy them without the demons even raising a hand. And the necromancers seem to not really be known for their prudence. Without their war against the Church, humanity might have had a different stand against the demons. The Alliance works so far because there is a certain balance between the temples. As we have seen with the Cai’er hurting Yang Wenzhao incident, they can’t afford to destroy this balance either.

It seems that some of the abilities match with his knight abilities or fit perfectly into his arsenal of techniques. For him it is only a gain and no hindrance. But that must not necessarily be true for everyone.

Besides, Haochen would never desert to the demons’ side and abandon his comrades. Not even if there are repercussions, which won’t be since he can’t be hold accountable for being overpowered by an entity he researched during a mission. Whose wrong labeling is the entire fault of the Alliance and our pitiful clerk.

        • Jonathan Hurd

To be fair we still don’t really know the full story between the fight of the Necromancers and the Radiant Church. I mean it is true that the humans were greatly weakened by the war, but it seems kind of hard to predict something like demons dimension jumping and converting people in the near future. It is not really known who shot first yet as well it is possible the Radiant Church were the ones who came to wipe out the Necromancers and the Necro’s were fighting in self defense.

          • Robin

Or the Church could have pulled a Spirit Hall on them. We already learned that the Church controled most of the powerhouses. Either the necromancers wouldn’t let themselves be controled, or the religious beliefs of the Church contradicted too strongly with the ideas of the necromancers. Since, as you pointed out, no one can predict a demon shower out of the blue, those would have been plausible reasons for the conflict between both sides.

          • Jonathan Hurd

That is the kind of feeling I have been getting too. Probably some of the higher ups in the Knight Alliance should know the proper history and be able to tell us the motives behind the war.

          • Robin

I guess so. The powerhouse of the 9th step, let’s call him grandpa Yang, should surely know about it. Maybe even grandpa Han.

        • Murilo Denech Longue

no what i mean about him going to the demon territory it wasn’t he join their side, it was him going to live there on the florest or something like that.

    • IvyHav3n

Honestly, I don’t think LHC would tell anyone until it’s absolutely necessary (With the exception of Cai’er).

      • Stark

Seems like you forgot what he did with case with the light elemental fairy.
