Shen Yin Wang Zuo, Chapter 243

Shen Yin Wang Zuo, Chapter 243: Eternal Rest (III)

Necromancer?

Hearing this word, Long Haochen felt incomparably shaken from the depths of his heart. This vocation hadn’t appeared in the whole continent over the past ten thousand years!

Hearing this word immediately called to his mind a palpitating story his father told him about before.

13,000 years ago, during the antique glorious era, happened the 7,000 most rapid period of development of humanity’s history. It was precisely those 7,000 years that established their position as rulers of Shengmo Dalu. At this time, humans had three countries, all of which were incomparably powerful, and even surpassed the current Temple Alliance, possessing countless powerhouses.

However, why is it that 7,000 years ago, the seventy-two demon gods descended and caused humans to be unable to resist them, narrowly exterminating them completely, and causing the beginning of the so called dark era?

Long Xingyu told Long Haochen that it was because a calamity had befallen during the glorious era, and that the main culprits for this calamity were precisely the necromancers.

This calamity led to a huge loss of strength on the side of the three great empires, even causing innombrable powerhouses’ bloodline to be lost, leading to an insufficiency in power on the human side. It was after their decline and the creation of the Temple Alliance, that the situation was gradually stabilized.

That calamity happened several tens of thousands years ago, and pictured necromancers as a vocation that had dealings with death. They were not darkness element mage, but mages with powerful abilities enabling them to form a connection with departed spirits. And at that time, outside of the three great empires, the human world had a fourth power named as the Brilliant Church, as mentioned priorly.

The three empires ruled over humans, whereas the Brilliant Church ruled over powerhouses. That was to say, the overwhelming majority of human powerhouses obeyed the Brilliant Church, and even the appellation of glorious era referred to it. As one could well imagine, this was how powerful the Brilliant Church was.

A war broke out between the necromancers and the Brilliant Church, which was something very few people nowadays knew about. But even ten thousand years later, this war remained in humanity’s records as a very bitter one. It could be said that the strength the necromancers displayed at that time was not the slightest bit inferior to the current seventy-two demon gods’. It was only that the current humanity was far from the strength it had at its peak.

When humanity finally obtained victory, exterminating completely the necromancer side, it went to the extent that ten thousand years later, no one had ever heard of necromancers appearing in the continent anymore.

However, humanity also paid a disastrous cost. The Supreme Pontiff of the Brilliant Church of that time had finally died, and the same went for many powerful lineage that went extinct. Over 90% of the powerhouses of the Brilliant Church had been killed during this holy war.

In the last battle, the Supreme Pontiff of the Brilliant Church fought the head of the necromancers of that time, and that battle narrowly caused a breakdown of the human world.

No one knew about the final result, except from the fact that after that battle, both His Majesty Supreme Pontiff and the head of the necromancers had never been seen ever again. The remaining necromancers, who became a group of chiefless dragons, finally lost this Holy War. However, the catastrophe they had brought upon had caused a decline of the human population by a half, and the death of countless powerhouses, causing numbers of the glorious era’s inheritances to disappear. Right after this arrived the later period of the glorious era, and the arrival of the dark era as we know it.

It could be said that if not for the disaster the necromancers brought upon the mainland, at the time of the seventy-two demon gods’ descent, they wouldn’t necessarily have established themselves in Shengmo Dalu in such a way. If the Brilliant Church’s strength was still as before, how would they have let demons grow so strong?

Unfortunately, any ‘if’ couldn’t change things that had already happened, and humans’ glory fell because of the necromancers as well as the seventy-two demon gods. However, human civilisation was still strong enough to put up a fight; at least until now, it wouldn’t be so easy for the seventy-two demon gods to wipe out the Temple Alliance.

After their fall, humanity gradually stood up, and now with the appearance of the Scion of Light Long Haochen and the Saint Daughter of Samsara Cai’er, humanity’s time finally had come.

Long Haochen gradually came back to his senses, but his golden eyes were still filled with alarm.

This tower… It is actually the heritage left by the necromancers! How shocking could this information be? In fact, at the time the Brilliant Church gained the victory of the holy war, the remaining powerhouses purged the mainland of all trace of the necromancers’ heritage, for hundreds and hundreds of years.

All inheritance from the necromancers, resources and records, had been thoroughly destroyed. And at the present time, only few people knew about the past existence of these necromancers.

Saint Undead Magic and Slumbering Calamity, Elux. This was a terrifying and domineering name. Long Haochen could almost be sure that this master of this ‘Eternal Rest’ had played a decisive role in those days. Even if he wasn’t that head of the necromancers with whom the master of the Brilliant Church self-destructed, he was still at least one of the generals. Who had guessed that some heritage of the formidable necromancers still existed in those days. If this message could be brought back to the Temple Alliance, this would possibly bring out a big wave! Keep calm, I have to keep calm… Long Haochen warned himself uninterruptedly to calm down from his state of excitement.

His memory was exceptional, in particular, such a state of nervousness aroused his spirit, and was enough to double his mental capacity. He had kept firmly in mind the previous message, and carefully pondered over it. From this little message that had been left here, he already learned a lot.

First, this tower should have been left from the glorious age ten thousand of years ago, and could be said to be be crystallization of the knowledge of the necromancers of that time.

After the necromancers lost the holy war, this Eternal Rest Tower had been buried underground, and had never been discovered up till now, until a tectonic change happened from the earthquake, giving birth to such a large crevice, which caused Long Haochen to find this place.

Even after ten thousand years, not only this tower didn’t have any signs of destruction, but the specters outside had visibly been kept here in purpose by this tower’s master, through some unknown methods.

As the Scion of Light, Long Haochen naturally wasn’t qualified to succeed this necromancer’s inheritance, but at the time this voice rose, the gate behind him had already been shut. Considering the knowledge and the strength of this tower’s master, breaking the door would obviously not be so easy.

Then, if he wanted to leave this place alive, the first thing Long Haochen had to do was to complete the first floor’s trial, obtaining the trust of this Slumbering Calamity Elux.

Furthermore, it was easy to find out through the message the Slumbering Calamity Elux left, that this powerful necromancer believed that only another necromancer of the sixth step could have made it there, and that was to say that the trial of the first floor of this tower thus had to be designed for a necromancer of the sixth step to be able to pass it.

Having passed through this mountain pass, Long Haochen couldn’t help but reveal a bitter smile. Without a doubt, the trial of this first floor wouldn’t possibly be easy. To him, it was unknown whether he would be able to come back alive from it. Now, he could only strive to do his best, to aim for the possibility of escaping from there.

Just in the middle of his pondering about how he should face this unknown danger, the voice of the Slumbering Calamity Elux rang once again, and this time, caused Long Haochen to fall in total despair.

“Then, let me examine your elemental affinity, to see what kind of necromancer you are.”

A test of elemental attribute? I’m done for. Long Haochen’s brain immediately became blank. Based on his thoughts, necromancer arts should be an extension of the darkness element’s path. If not, no matter which attribute it was, this could definitely not be holy light attribute! If his own attribute was revealed, given how powerful this Slumbering Calamity was, how could he possibly be in capacity to face him!?

“Haoyue, destroy the gate.” Long Haochen immediately passed down an order to Haoyue in his thoughts; although this plan was really uncertain, he was really afraid of being condemned to death without being given any opportunity to resist.

However, as Long Haochen transmitted this order, Haoyue’s body suddenly shook violently as he tossed the unprepared Long Haochen in the air, before rapidly taking a few steps backwards, maintaining a distance between Long Haochen and himself.

Haoyue is abandoning me? That’s impossible!

Long Haochen was shocked to an horrified state, and at that time, an ash grey radiance suddenly descended, enveloping his body and preparing to do verifications.

The ash grey radiance was filled with a terrifying aura that was impossible to resist, and Long Haochen could only feel his entire body go cold, as an undescriptible aura of death instantly made him feel as though his blood was frozen.

As all his liquid spiritual energy light attribute was suppressed and pushed back to the inside of his Saint Spiritual Stove, he felt unable to move even a little finger.

For the first time in his life, Long Haochen gave up all hope. At least even at the time he was confronting the three demon gods, he still had the courage to take a stand and fight, but now, he was unable to do anything.

Will I really have to die in such a place? To become a part of these specters’ group?

Affected by the ash-grey radiance’s illumination, Long Haochen slowly fell back, at a trembling state. But the extreme surprise was that the attack he expected didn’t arrive at all, and that white glow, as well as the omen Long Haochen had, just disappeared.

“Is that for real? Are you really the one who got my message? If that’s for real, I am just too blessed. It looks that the old heaven hasn’t abandoned me completely.

Dear disciple, I think that I can already call you that. I won’t allow you to die before you become my successor. In fact, you are the most ideal disciple I could dream for, a holy necromancer sharing the same holy light attribute as me. Hahaha, what a perfect successor! Heavens, it’s truly the heavenly holy light, hahahah.”

Can somebody pick up the phone?

    Because I fucking caaaaallled it.

    • Robin

Yep, it sounds interesting and nice. ^^

      • Jonathan Hurd

I’m just so happy I was right on this one, :D. I’m telling you this will come in super handy when he goes to Hao Yue’s world again.

  • kooG

omfg.. did i hear that correctly.. holy necromancer.. this novel just got upgraded to a new level.. im a huge fan of necromancers so i cant wait to see the results

  • Novo

Holy Necromancer…..now I’ve heard of everything…well what’s there to do besides kneel before the Abhorsen?

  • Novo

Holy Necromancer…..now I’ve heard of everything…well what’s there to do besides kneel before the Abhorsen?

    • Rafael Moura

Well… Theres a fantasy book called “The Battle of Apocalypse: From the Fall of Angels to the Twilight of the World” in wich the Necromancers are said to have to sides.
One is the evil one we all know, and the other is to be the link between the living and the dead and other extradimensional beings.

  • kirindas

Happy New Year! Thanks for the new chapter!

  • kirindas

Happy New Year! Thanks for the new chapter!

  • Gohankuten

Yay seems like Haochen is about to find out that necromancers have been painted in a bad light and were actually the good guys back then. Really I have never agreed with necromancers all being labeled as evil.

    • Jonathan Hurd

Yay my dream of LHC the death knight are coming true! Wooh!

      • Indream

        For the Lich King!
        P.S. Sorry, i couldn’t resist.

        • Jonathan Hurd

I think the Lich King exists in Hao Yue’s world. With any luck LHC will be able to subordinate him…. mwhahaha

    • Luke Confidential

Methinks it more likely that the necromancers back then were ‘people’ being suppressed by a power hungry Church.

Some were Holy, some were Evil, most were in between.

    • Indream

Necros can be neutral and don’t care about good or evil. But it seems like LHC going to become good holy(china i love you) necromancer…

  • Luke Confidential

Damn, that bastard Augusta was getting faith energy even from Shengmo Dalu. Until the demons slaughtered what was left of the Church.

  • lordcattank

thank you very much for the chapter

  • airno

Hey guys. I just wonder about what the necromancer said about LHC if he was really the one who got the message or someone else? I’m kinda have mix feeling about this tho 🙂

    • Jonathan Hurd

I think the Necro is just in shock at his luck and so is doubting his eyes. It seems pretty clear that no one else has managed to approach that close to the tower and that the door closed after the message went out.

      • airno

I see. Thanks for the reply that clears my confusion :))

        • Jonathan Hurd

          Np 😀

  • ZaX

Holy necromancer?! Hidden class unlocked. Thanks for the chapter.

    • Luke Confidential

It does seem that most Xianxia MC’s have a subclass.

With Tang San it’s Blacksmith [and Apothecary]

      With Xiao Yan it’s Alchemist

With Linley Baruch it was Mage [until the story exceeded the boundaries of Mage vs Warrior]

      With Long Haochen it’s Necromancer!

  • Jorge Fernandes Freitas

OMG, thanks for the chapter… this one was a surprise though… Holy Necromancer? usually necromancers use dark arts so… i thought he was pretty much fuc… there =P.

  • Jorge Fernandes Freitas

  • VanillaCustardPie

    Thank you~

  • VanillaCustardPie

    Thank you~

  • Carlos Jose Barva Serrato

Happy new year, I think that necromancers are like druids, they can talk and handle spiritis, the label evil or holy depends in how you use them.

  • George Almeida

History is always written by the winners. If Hitler had won the war, I have no doubt that the Jews would’ve been the same as the necromancers were for this story.

  • Ken Dragon

LIKE WHAT BAKANA WTF TO UNIMAGINABLE AND I LOVE IT HOLY GODS

  • Indream

WTF?! God damn HOLY(!!!) necromancer! The tea was too strong when author was writing this.

    • Luke Confidential

      Think about what necromancy is.

It’s the magic of life and death.

There is plenty of conceptual space in that for Holy.

    • Owl

And there are some “good” mythical gods that govern life and death,we see “death” as bad because we as human-centric humans see losing life as a loss for us but in the bigger picture a god that puts people to death at the end of their life cycle is 1) keeping the overall global balance and 2) keeping a possible cycle of life and rebirth going. Not necessarily evil.

  • Durothil

Well imho holy element necromancer is just AS valid AS dark element necromancer. Since necromancy deals with life and death, it’s core mechanics and abilities should not depend on ang Of the regular elementem.

  • kuroneko25

Wow, that was unexpected. But it’s not the first time I read about good necromancers, so why not?

  • Evilage

    Holy necromancer…
    using dead angel corpses?

  • Allstarall

So… Long Haochen is going to be a holy necromancer?… 😈

  • idea

so it gone turn out that the holy church tingy was bad and the necromancers tried to stop them but failed and thanks to that the demon gods decedended

    • Cyrs

Wouldn’t surprise me if the brilliant church is evil; since this is created by the same author as Douluo Dalu. There are “a lot” of similarities between the 2 novels…and the Brilliant Church sounds similar to Spirit Hall of Douluo Dalu (which is evil). But its a bit too early to know for real who was in the wrong.

  • idea

so it gone turn out that the holy church tingy was bad and the necromancers tried to stop them but failed and thanks to that the demon gods decedended

    • Robin

I am not sure if the necromancers were really that innocent. But there are always good ones and bad ones on each side. They fought and the DGs as a third party got lucky to meet a weakened force.

      • gundam_man

i agree with you on that, who is good and who is evil depends on who side you are on.

    • Corfal

I’m thinking similar to Robin where they were just two different powers and the victors painted the losers as abominations.

      • Luke Confidential

Spirit Hall in D.D. isn’t REALLY evil.

It’s more power-hungry than it is evil.

        • Robin

This is clearly up to debate. Their deeds are simply monstrous. But I agree that the original intention behind Spirit Hall might have been good and not every nook and cranny about them is bad. With such powerful organizations it highly depends on the leaders and the direction it develops in. The Supreme Pontiff is a monster.
Again, a clear similarity. Might be a hint, might be an intentional mislead. But even if we can’t be sure, I doubt that the church summoned the DG intentionally. Rather their weakened power and that of the necromancers led to a lacking power at the human’s side to prevent and block the invasion.

          • Luke Confidential

Yeah, going through Death City can really damage/destroy any mercy in a person’s soul.

It’s still less EVIL and more authoritarian in my mind.

          • Robin

Regarding everyone who has a different opinion and won’t obey as enemies, and killing all of them off without mercy, clearly crosses my understanding of being authoritarian to being evil. Of course you can’t aim for world domination without taking the necessary actions.
And you can’t only blame the experience she gained in Slaughter City since there are people who survived it without turning rogue. But obviously the body can survive while the mind is shattered and the morale corrupted.

          • Cyrs

No matter what the reason for it is, the fact that Bibi Dong is evil is rather undeniable at this point. And if the head of an organization is evil, and it’s members follow clearly evil orders without question…then can you still say Spirit Hall isn’t evil?

Yes…not every member of spirit hall has a black heart…but that doesn’t change the fact, that Spirit Hall’s actions (as a whole)are evil.

        • Cyrs

There is a fine line between power-hungry and evil. And well, Spirit hall crossed that line ages ago.

          • Luke Confidential

It seems to be a common theme in Xianxia, the strong see it as their right to tell the weak what to do and eliminate them if offended.

          • Robin

This is the common theme in most societies. The strong lead, the strong protect so why shouldn’t they demand obedience? Look back in history. Isn’t it always the same picture even outside novels?

But you are right, the depiction of this is found in many Xianxia novels. The strong set the rules and the demanded order. Everyone who steps out of line will be eliminated.

          • Luke Confidential

And then we take a look at the current humanity in this novel we’re reading.

They might be a bit arrogant in their strength [though I certainly didn’t see it in the Demon God Hunters squad at least, who are at the top of the top in terms of power] but they aren’t nearly as domineering as… say… authoritative figures in Douluo Dalu or Coiling Dragon.

          • Robin

They can’t be because it is obvious and they clearly know, that there is still always someone more powerful than them. The DG and the DGE and the demon armies in their numbers are simly too powerful to allow them negligence and arrogance. And before you try domineering your own race, you start with the immediate danger in front of your door.

Isn’t it the same with Spirit Hall? They didn’t dare being too open in their ambitions as long as the three upper sects were powerful and present. Now that their counterweight is gone they start their elimination campaign with the unaware but most possible source of danger.

          • Luke Confidential

I dunno maybe I’m just an idealist who figures people should be treated with respect in general.

The weak obviously don’t have much of a voice but they don’t deserve to be bullied either, just allowed to live in peace.

          • Robin

This is the optimal solution we all strive, or should strive for. Let’s see how it will turn out for Haochen and company. ^^

          • Luke Confidential

Next chapter should be in within 20 minutes right? The waiting is killing me lol [or at least my hair]

          • Robin

            Why your hair?

          • Luke Confidential

Stress lol. I’m too excited about this chapter that seems to be a bit late today xD.

          • Robin

I am sure it won’t be long now. And it will be worth the wait, trust me. ^^

          • Luke Confidential

I think I might be wearing out my f5 button lol

          • Robin

Patience, my young Padawan. Patience is the key to success. ^^

          • Luke Confidential

Speaking of patience, he’s more than half an hour later than usual >_<

            I hope toto is ok

          • Robin

I am sure he is. Yesterday he was perfectly fine. Maybe he uses the weekend after the holidays for a little family time.

          • Cyrs

I don’t think it’s the same with Spirit Hall. Since they started to show their true colors way before the decline of the 3 upper sects. The situation with Tang San’s parents is proof enough for that. Though I agree that the DGs keep any (would be) temple alliance arrogance in check.

          • Robin

You are right, it isn’t completely the same. Spirit Hall could be sure that none of the upper sects would seek an open confrontation with them and the sects were not really united but bickering with each other. The reaction of the Clear Sky School to Tang Sans father is proof enough. They could have opposed Spirit Hall openly instead of hiding, although there would not have been a chance of success without help from the other sects. And later the sects were destroyed before they had the chance to unite. Only after a common enemy, Spirit Hall, appeared did the two empires and the remaining sects and academies strive to unite.
A common enemy leads to a more united and peaceful society. It calms infighting and prevents arrogance.

          • Cyrs

Yea…I always found it weird that Clear Sky was forced to go into hiding so easily by Spirit Hall. I know it was an unexpected attack, but Clear Sky was suppose to be the “mightiest sect under heaven,” Plus the 3 upper sects were suppose to be like brothers. The fact that spirit hall was able to do what they did…and not get backlash from the 3 upper sects is weird.

          • Robin

Well, they didn’t approve of Tang Hao’s relationship with Ah Yin, and in their eyes, it wasn’t worth risking an open confrontation with Spirit Hall. I think that was the reason why Tang Hao seperated from the school and traveled alone with his wife. And after he killed the Supreme Pontiff it was hard to get support. Spirit Hall would have painted them as murderers and demanded repercussions from the school. And only with 2 Title Douluos it would have been hard to fight Spirit Hall. We don’t know how close the relationship between Clear Sky and the other 2 sects was and what kind of support they would have been able to get, but according to the way they mistreated their own subsidiary clans, I assume that there have been conflicts between the 3 upper sects. And I further suppose their decision to go into hiding was made deliberately and not completely forced.

      • gundam_man

IMO i think they where the cause of the demon gods decent as i feel this ties in to what hao yue is. we know that mounts and the demons came from a different plan, so i think it was the brilliant church was trying to get a power they did not understand causing the demon gods to descend and the necromancer figuring out the what they where trying to do, ultimately taking the rap for everything, but either way a Holy Necromancer sounds like an oxymoron, i wonder how they are different compared to there brothers

  • Schattenbach

Quite the lucky old necromancer … getting the Scion of Light as student … .

It’s already been said that his affinity with the light element way beyond that of any light elemental mage, so I was kind of surprised that, up until this point, he didn’t bother to learn many decent spells.

Should also be helpful for when he visits Haoyue’s world again (Haoyue’s about to reach his next evolution).

Light element being used for necromancy isn’t that strange at all … as necromancy usually includes plenty of stuff like the manipulation of lifeforce and souls and such.

I wonder about why Haoyue abandoned his big brother … did he know that Long Haochen would be passing with flying colours?

    • Jonathan Hurd

I don’t think Hao Yue would/can abandon LHC. I mean if LHC dies he dies so it makes no sense to throw LHC away to save himself since it can’t work. I think Hao Yue sensed that LHC would be okay or at the very least this was their only chance of getting out alive.

      • Robin

We will know in some hours. ^_^
Haoyue would never abandon Haochen in a dangerous situation, that is simply impossible! But the test would have been distorted if he was mounted on a former darkness creature with demonic heritage. And maybe then Haochen would really have been in danger. He had to react fast and the fastest way was to unseat him unceremonially.

  • Dain

Not gonna bandwagon with the “WTF HOLY NECROMANCER”…

But, gotta ask what is an “Elux”?

Even the Urban Dictionary’s description seem out of place…

    • Robin

Elux is simply the name of this necromancer who wants Haochen as a disciple.

      • Jonathan Hurd

Personally more interested in his nickname the Slumbering Calamity and what that means.

        • Robin

Well, I assume that he was not only powerful when he was alive, but also not necessarily nice. And since power tempts people, maybe he caused a big calamity. Perhaps even the big calamity causing the opponents to self-destruct?

          • Jonathan Hurd

That seems likely for the calamity part kind of curious about the slumbering part. I guess we’ll get to know more about LHC’s newest guardian/teacher soon, hehe.

          • Robin

The slumbering part is easily explained. The era when the necromancer lived was obviously many centuries ago. Somehow he sealed his soul or essence, however you want to call it, in the tower and waited, slumbering, for a suitable successor to pass by. Not really foolproof or very intelligent but since it worked, why not?

          • Jonathan Hurd

Well all things considered the fact is that the necromancers were all wiped out but his tower still remains as a chance to renew their legacy so better than nothing. 😀

          • Robin

You have a point. I think it is a thing in chinese novels that there are often towers or caverns around, containing the sealed souls of mighty ancestors together with their ultimate techniques which they keep save until the fated and optimal successor passes by. The fate part is important since logically the chances are slim that someone would find such a place without him being on a quest, as it is the obligation of every hero.

That should not sound derogatory but it is a motive often found in legends or old myths. Just think about the motive of the toad protecting the egg of a monster until a virgin frees it unintentionally and out of good will. It is even found in medieval literature. You find this setting in many cultures but especially frequent in chinese novels, according to my reading experience.

Shhh…. it’s actually an excuse. Most of the time the ancestors are sealed into the tower shortly after an exclamation like “Where did those damn keys of mine go? Damn it!! I locked myself in!” 🙂

          • Robin

*lol* They locked themselves in and didn’t get out until they were only ghosts because they were too much fixed on their security, and didn’t trust anyone enough to give them a spare key. Now I got it. ^^

Too bad. Chinese people are said to get older than other humans. No wonder when they might get a little bit forgetful… 😉

          • Owl

They usually give others the spare key actually, hence why MCs can find OPed skills and treasures way into the future. Just that their security system is too OPed for normal people.

“If I lock myself in, come get me out. You have to be level 100/100, clad in mythical grade armour and have Level 9 magic”
“Dude, you’re only paying me 10 bucks an hour and I’m doing this because of college fees, not a hero!”

          • Jonathan Hurd

I think the reason we often find guardians of treasures in stories is because it helps the reader accept the power up of the character if the character had to do something to earn it. I mean think about what LHC’s dad and the Knight chief have said, it would be useless to just gift stupidly strong equipment to him that would hurt his growth more than help him. Only through his own efforts will he appreciate it and not rely on the equipment as a crutch. Similarly only through efforts will the readers accept and enjoy it, imo. No one minds how strong LHC’s Blue Rain, Hibiscus of Light is because we remember the trials he went through to get it and how much it takes from him to use it. If he was just up and given a sword that powerful I don’t think we would be as accepting of its power. I once read a book where the main character basically had so much power he was literally able to kill gods from the very get go and he just kept getting more. No build up he just had that power. It felt overall anti climatic to me.

          • Robin

Of course you are right. A MC needs his opponents to get stronger and gain powerful equipment. My intent was only to point out that in XianXia novels you often find the souls of deceased masters who search for a successor while in other stories you rather find greedy dwarves (e.g. medieval literature) or beasts as guardians of treasures.

  • Jonathan Hurd

So we are now up to LHC’s third teacher. He has been taught by a 9th step knight. A 5th step knight who only had 8 innate spiritual energy. Now his newest teacher is a thousand year old dead necromancer from the glorious era. Is it just me or does LHC have the most monstrous teachers of any series.

    • Luke Confidential

Teacher was 5th step? I thought he was 6th step…

      • Jonathan Hurd

He was stuck as an earth knight at the 3,000 internal spiritual energy limit. That’s why he couldn’t give LHC any advice past 5th step.

        • Luke Confidential

          Sky Knight.

But I guess that’s where I made my error. Earth/Sky Knight is the same rank related to whether one’s Mount flies or not.

I had previously been thinking Sky came after Earth, but now I know that Radiant does instead.

          • Jonathan Hurd

Yeah, its kind of annoying because they eventually just stop bothering making that clarification in the story. For example they just Yang Whenzhao a Earth Knight even with his unicorn.

          • Robin

To be fair, Yang Whenzao is like a combination of Earth and Airbone knight since his mount is suitable for both. The bird of Haochen’s teacher, for example, is clearly only a sky oriented mount. But in the beginning he was also introduced as Earth knight, because we learned a lot about him before his mount and this specialized class was introduced.

    • ShelfCloud

And from what was mentioned last chapter it seems as if this new teacher will accompany Haochen somehhow. At least he said “I will guard you by your side forever”. In my opinion that does not mean that he will stay at the tower.

  • agila0212

Thank you for the chapter 🙂

  • Asf

Will I really have to die in such a place?

    >plot armor activate..
    >bending fate…

, a holy necromancer sharing the same holy light attribute as me..

    • Cyrs

If he was fated to die in such a place without accomplishing anything…then their would be no point to making him a main character for so long. XD

      • Evilage

        maybe he isnt…
        maybe cai’er is…

        • Luke Confidential

Psh, the real MC of this story is Austin Griffin and his return to power after the destruction of his original world.

  • Zeth

So damn unexpected, not about LHC to live but about Holy necromancers, it’s so weird :S
Thank you very much Totobro and sponsors!

  • Dragon

OMG Hou Chen is going to be upgraded from OP to just plain Broken all abourd the hype train.

    • Jonathan Hurd

To be fair I kept feeling that Hao Yue was becoming more awesome than him and worried how he would keep up when Hao Yue gets five heads. Light necromancy seems like a pretty bad ass way….

      • Luke Confidential

Heh, just the Light Vibrations powerup was pretty significant. This is going to be nuts [but then… so is Austin Griffin with 9 heads or whatever the final count is supposed to be.]

  • Rhiannon Sturtevant

OK, so now that it’s established that LHC will be trained in the art of Necromancy, I want to see how he explains to this mysterious, dead necromancer voice thingy that he does not know the first thing about necromancy and has been brainwashed by the historical propaganda of ten thousand years ago.

  • Anto Wibowo

    Thank you for the chapter!

  • Schattenbach

Elemental faries learn every magic of their attribute that their master knows, right?

So then, in the future, it’s Yating the “Fairy Queen of Deathly Light” (or something like that)?

  • BlackSugoku

What the heck? Perhaps Necromancers were a class that guided the dead to the afterlife? Still, Holy Necromancer… Isn’t that like A Demon Lord with a Holy Sword?

    • Schattenbach

Not exactly … there are plenty of gods of death in history, plenty of which aren’t exactly evil (not all of them were guids, plenty of them simply ruled over the lives of mortals). Life and Death are usually portrayed as the domain of gods, so using “sacred”/”holy” power to emulate exactly that effect isn’t particulary strange.

Moreover, if a “killer” like the Saint of Samsara can be considered to be a “Saint” and there’s, for example, a “Divine Throne of Doom and Slaughter” within the context of this story, then, obviously, things aren’t limited to some “things are either black and white” point of view.

      • Robin

A very good point. I had to smile when I read Holy Necromancer for the first time, but as you pointed out, it fits the structure of the whole world. Like in some other worlds, killing is not generally doomed as bad or uncommon. Of course it is mainly directed at the demons, but you can’t have assassins as part of your community, know about their deathly skills and ignore the fact that assassins kill, according to their vocation. Cai’er’s attack during the competition portrayed this danger vividly.
I think if the powerful arts of necromancy can be in good hands, then Haochen is the perfect holder.

  • Luke Confidential

That anticipation when waiting for the next chapter release >_<
